  1. I work for John Grant Haulage a bulk cement hauler in Mississauga On,a Mack customer since B61 days.We have new Macks with Semi auto 10 speeds(visions). They are nice trucks with big bunks and pull well.We gross 60,000KG(132,270#),they pull it well. I had a 96 CH613,427 and 18 speed (all Mack) till 2006 when I sold it.A great truck. A lot of the companies that started in the50's that used Macks then are still around, some of them still Mack customers. Pete
  2. I remember seeing black CH's with KAT on the door hauling vans around the Chicago area. They were the first ones I ever saw and no body else seemed to have any.I always wondered if they were some kind of final preproduction real world testing or they bought the first ones .Thi was 90 or91 if I remember right.Anybody know? Pete
  3. That is similar to the check engine light in your pickup or car,it can be for all kinds of stuff. My 96 it would come on once in a while stay on for a while and then go out.I had dealers check the fault codes and it would show nothing. One common thing is a slightly low A-freeze level that will trigger the water level sensor. It does not have to be down much, sometimes all it takes is to warm up a bit ,the a-freeze will expand from the heat.A quick way to check this is to pull ahead up to 4 or 5mph and hit the brake hard,if that all it is the light will go out fr.om the A-freeze sloshing around in the tank. If you haven't had the truck long get the codes checked to put your mind at ease.If all your gauges are showing normal temp, oil pressure, and there ar no wierd noises coming out of it your chances of doing serious damage are almost non existant. I ran mine for 10 years and nothing ever happened. Pete
  4. Try giving the clutch a quick tap, especially in the lower gears Pete
  5. A few years back I was told that the 460XT or what ever they officially called it was not available in a Vision ,only in a CH. Pete
  6. The red one with the reefer belonged to a fellow in Toronto who bought it new .He ran it into the mid 80's,I saw it in Mack Toronto gettig serviced when I had one of my R models gettig serviced,85,86.The service man told me it had been upgraded to a Maxidynne engine. It had an air lift axle not a full screw.A fellow in my chapter of ATHS had it for a while,I don't know whether the original owner passed away or retired. It ended up in NJ.It was purchased by a carrier the name escapes me,it was converted back to a single axle.I have seen it at ATHS shows more than once. 7. Does any one know what effect this wll have on old trucks,NH250 Cummins in Particular.I have heard that it will effect seals because of less lubricant in the fuel.Could it be as simple as dumping oil in the fuel?We have had low sulphur here for years and I haven't noticed any real effects yet Pete
  8. I started driving in 1959 ,bought first truck in 1961,started my last business in 1977,sold in 2006,semi retired ,I drive part time for a friend who started his business same time I did. If you can keep that interest going you will do well.My last truck was an all Mack 1996 CH613,427,18 speed. Pete
  9. If you have any truck exhaust places near you check them out. There are 2 of them here ,they have all the equipment, they measure it and make it while you wait.Cheaper and bettr from my experience. Pete
  10. Nice job,I still have trouble thinking of vehicles that I bought new as antiques. getting old but it sure beats the alternitave. Pete
  11. The old squre ones ,the older guys told me that apiece of pencil eraser could block the speed needle.I bought four of them,3speedo,1 RPM for $11.50tax iincluded in a box.Maybe some day I will do an old fleet truck reproduction Pete
  12. The Hi Rail set ups are after market. There was a steel rail to truck tranfer place up the road from me had a Western Star set up to move the rail cars and shunt the trailers.I saw an article on it once that said it cost $500,000 Canadian approx US$350,000 at the time 1990 or so. Pete
  13. My 85 R model tandem with 42" bunk double frame weighe about 19600 with 250US gal of fuel,my 86 had a heavy single frame weided about 700# less Pete
  14. Brockway people say that the R type cabs on Brockways are not the same as Macks, there are alot of differences, like the doors are not the same and the cab is 3" longer.there was an article in Brockway Today about it awhile back. Pete
  15. They talked about that at a discussion group at Syracuse 2003 and I think there was something in Brockway Today about it too Pete
  16. Toronto Mack ,which was the last factory branch store to close, had 4 or 5 CL700's with Detroits in them for sale in 96,when I bought my CH.They must have been a special order that went bad as they were all identical ,maybe they got stuck with them because they were a company store.I only ever saw 1 of them on the road around here ,don't know where the others went. Pete
  17. I have 2 Brockways besides my CH,the Mack Museum has build sheets for them.If I remember correctly Mack bought Brockway in1955 and ran it seperately .Some Brocway guys say that the Super liners were a Brockway design taken over by Mack after closure of Brockwa in 1977 Pete
  18. Long hoods are nice till you get into some dock that is 65 ft witha 53 ft van/.MyCH has a 198" WB,42" bunk and fits almost any where a day cab will.I like set back axle as I run 80,000 gross and can put 12,000 on the steering no problem. My 96 is all Mack ,427,18 speed ,38 rears and made alot of money. My advice is buy a truck to make money, most of the B61's we all like so much were fleet trucks when they were new.
