  1. I found some pictures of a pretty interesting Kenworth, this was their first experimental tractor powered by a gas turbine engine (circa 1950) not much information included in the article, other than the fact it was a flop, with many "issues" but some neat pictures none-theless. musta been a strange sight to see going down the road!.................Mark

Cool stuff. I've been gathering up Turbine info for a long time. Here is a link to my turbine album if interested. It's over 70 something photos Paul

  2. If it (the Delco) has an internal regulator, and is anything like the 10SI internally, when it "kicks" in is based on the resistance in the the circuit that runs from the keyswitch through the "idiot" light, you can put a small resistor, or bigger bulb, to make it kick in sooner and start charging at a smaller rpm...the one I have (10SI) doesnt start charging until it reaches about 800 rpm, but after starting, I just blip the throttle, and it kicks in, charges, and stays charging even it idle (550rpm).

I wasn't thinking of the I.R. unit. Mine all have and external regulator not the internal.except my AC which now has a Hitachi in the generator case....but the increase in alternator RPM with the smaller pully sends a false signal through the regulator circut. Telling it the engine speed and demand is higher then it is. Like blipping the throttle.

  3. Generally a bad valve or one that does not full seat will show up as a miss at idle or a roughness. Looking at the photo of your smoke, Grey color is generaly excessive fuel or an incomplete burn. Has anyone checked to see if the choke is full opening when warm? Is the choke pull off working? The Carb float could have one of 2 problems. A miss adjusted float (too high) or a bad float needle will cause that color smoke by dumping fuel. Another thing to check is the ignition coil out put. The do break down over time and it may not be suppling the needed output under load. The will cause a miss fire because needed voltage at the plug(s) is not trhere. Also the vacuum advance could be not working as suggested. Paul

  4. Would you have any pictures of this 12' blade?

Sure but it a 12 " not 12' My fingers do listen to my head... .... You still want photos I'll be gad to shoot them.

  5. Yeah, i know its a fake (looks good though!).....i agree,if she'd just shut the @#*k up..........i doubt she knows where korea is! i just read something else that bothered me,a recent poll of college students showed 19% ages 18-21 could NOT find the UNITED STATES on an un-marked globe of the world! pretty effin'sad as far as i'm concerned!................

My wife caught some game show where a 5th grade teacher thought our first flag had fifty stars on it.......didn't know about all the others...........

Thought the north fought the south in WWII ...and the best was she never heard of Francis Scott Key, who wrote our national anthem!!!! Proud to be an educator..... :pat:

  6. I got a lot of MAC and Craftsman tools (got my first Craftman tool set 42 years ago) over the years, but also a few Snap On I got about 25 0r so years age. Also have all my pops Plumb tools from the 30's/ 40's. I'm probbly the only one on my block with king pin tools and a heavy univeral joint press. A lot of special tools I ended up making my self. The Sears Hardware by my runs when I come in.........asked for belts for my 1939 Sears 12' blade table saw..suprised me was they had them. I hit the local buy and sell now for hardship tool and equipment sale items. Paul

  7. My AC has a pair of Vacuum assist (?)Brake cans for the rears. This system eliminated a lot of linkage and provided equal braking to bothe sides. The entire brake system was retro fitted from a 1932 early in its life. Does anybody know if rebuild kits or reto fit kits for the later setup it available? This is a good cold weather project for me.

Rob if you see this, I got the Huck bolts you told me about right down from my shop at a place called Fasten-all.. Grade 8 and look just like the original chassis rivets.. Thanks!!

    Paul

  8. Here is the strait dope from the NYS DMV website:

Choice of Registering as Passenger or Commercial:

Pick-up trucks with an unladen weight of 5,500 pounds or less, that are used as a personal vehicle, may be

registered in either the commercial or passenger class. In either case, you will pay a commercial registration fee,

along with any commercial use tax applicable for your county (form MV-202C).

    Modified Pick-Up:

If the pick-up truck, of any weight, has been modified (that is, the truck bed is completely and permanently

enclosed by a camper top, and has seats, seat fittings or camping equipment mounted in the truck bed), it must be

registered in the passenger class. You must pay a passenger fee, along with any passenger use tax applicable for

    your county (form MV-202).

    Pick-Up Not Modified:

If the pick-up truck weighs more than 5,500 pounds and has not been modified, it must be registered

in the commercial class. You must pay a commercial fee.

So a dually could be legal but only if the bed is completely enclosed. BUT I see 2500 and 3500 diesel pickups with no cap and passenger plates. Hell just the other day a very nice dually Silverado 3500 diesel pulls up next to me with no cap, a tool box in the bed, some junk in the bed and passenger plates.

Looking up the curb weight for a 2009 Silverado 3500 it caries from 5800 to over 7000 for the dually. So its a legal no-go for passenger plates.

And with all of the regulations, an El Camino or Ranchero can only be regestered with Commercial plates Period!!.

Hey Thad, were you get off the LIE is the end of the loop for the SCPD, Suffolk Sheriffs, NYS police and NCPD. I do think the trucks with passenger plates that are open and working are just lucky right now. When the money gets tighter you'll see them ticketed. Suffolk aSheriffs Dept already runs a Piper Cherokee 100 ft over the LIE and parkways tracking Speeders and agressive drivers, won't be long to the ick ups are targeted..

  9. Old, (real old ~40+ years) Lincoln red buzz box stick welder. I might add that it is a complete pile of crap. I would love a wire feed welder, smallish Lincoln or Miller unit. TIG would be nice for detailed work.

Anyone here have an opinion of flux core versus gas shield MIG? I see the cheap flux core units at Home Depot and sometimes I am tempted to get one and try it out.

When I learned to weld at Grummans in Bethpage we only learned TIG and Stick. Wire feed was new. I first bought a cheap Flux core welder to do my 4 Chevy Pick up.

I learned the hard way, that a flx core weld on body panels is a hard and brittle weld. You well eventually have a stress crack in or next to the weld. A machine with the gas set up isn't much more expendsive and you don't have to run a "pure argon mix if you are't doing Aluminum or similar alloy. A 70/30 or 60/40 mix of Co2 and argon will work fine and is MUCH cheaper.

Don't know what is near you in Ozone Park ,but out here the ""buy and sell "(pawn shops) have a good selection cheap too. There was /is a rconditioned and used tool supply store on Jericho Turnpike in Floral Park on the North side just past Hicksville Spring. You can always email me and set up a play date with my welders. Paul

  10. They used to do the same thing with their Macks but I've seen some going down the road with the Bulldog intact.

UPS does that with all of their vehicles and equipment They don't want to endorse any maker(even though you know who they are. The Snap On and Matco names are removed from your tool boxes even.

As for the Mack Dog...Mack told them the couldn't remove it. That it was there to open the hood....., a handle! :thumb: Paul

  11. Before you buy parts, check for a blockages in the front brake lines. I had a similar isue with an older truck. A couple of old timers told me that they would block off the lines from brake supply to the cans to eliminate the front brake. Tthey would put a screw or a ball bearing ball in the line. Their theroy was that the front brakes would cause jackknifes. Some of the pre '72 Freightliners and K.W.s came from the factory with no front brakes. I'd hate to see you go through the expense and labor to still have the problem. (like I did) Paul

  12. No up here,They don't even see you.....to busy texting while adjusting their I pod while eating a burger. I had a person of colour hit my rear tires of my D250 Ram.....I didn't see you! Didn't see me? The F'in thing is RED! and 20 feet long!

Plus if you are a hair wider or longr than the parking space the Brown shirts ticket you.
