  1. N.Y. will also on pre title (1972 and down) vehicles, issue a 1 year non trasferable registation ( after a year it will renew as a normal tranferable regi) with the following vhicle info:, a bill of sale, weight, year, engine cylinders, fuel and a tracing of the VIN tag. The non tranferable registration is to assure no red flags arise over owner ship. I registered both mt B and my AC that way before I started any restoration. Alot of states are the same. Paul

  2. Grandma Still Drives! and I was behind her all day............

    post-3242-007121900 1287087422_thumb.jpg

Grandma is eighty-eight years old and still drives her own car. She writes:

    Dear Grand-daughter,

The other day I went up to our local Christian book store and saw a 'Honk if you love Jesus' bumper sticker ..

I was feeling particularly sassy that day because I had just come from a thrilling choir performance, followed by a thunderous prayer meeting. So, I bought the sticker and put it on my bumper.

Boy, am I glad I did; what an uplifting experience that followed.

I was stopped at a red light at a busy intersection, just lost in

thought about the Lord and how good he is, and I didn't notice that the light had changed.

It is a good thing someone else loves Jesus because if he hadn't

    honked, I'd never have noticed.

I found that lots of people love Jesus!

While I was sitting there, the guy behind started honking like crazy, and then he leaned out of his window and screamed, 'For the love of God!' 'Go! Go! Go! Jesus Christ, GO!'

What an exuberant cheerleader he was for Jesus!

    Everyone started honking!

I just leaned out my window and started waving and smiling at all those loving people.

I even honked my horn a few times to share in the love!

There must have been a man from Florida back there because I heard him yelling something about a sunny beach.

I saw another guy waving in a funny way with only his middle finger stuck up in the air. I asked my young teenage grandson in the back seat what that meant.

He said it was a Hawaiian good luck sign.

Well, I have never met anyone from Hawaii , so I leaned out the window and gave him the good luck sign right back.

    My grandson burst out laughing.

Why even he was enjoying this religious experience!!

A couple of the people were so caught up in the joy of the moment that they got out of their cars and started walking towards me.

I bet they wanted to pray or ask what church I attended, but this is when I noticed the light had changed.

So, grinning, I waved at all my brothers and sisters, and drove on through the intersection.

I noticed that I was the only car that got through the intersection

before the light changed again and felt kind of sad that I had to leave them after all the love we had shared.

So I slowed the car down, leaned out the window and gave them all the Hawaiian good luck sign one last time as I drove away. Praise the Lord for such wonderful folks!!

    Love, Grandma

  3. You can still purchase rivet blanks and it is not hard to locate a ceramic kiln or furnace to heat them with. If you or a partner can swing an eight pound hammer accurately, it really is no problem to buck them over when hot. You just want to have the correct head profile bucking tool for the outside end that shows to preserve the profil

Otherwise, I think I've seen "Huckbolts" with a similar profile that would show on the outside most seen by the eye.

I contacted paulbrook from his resto web site http://rustytrucks.tripod.com/ to see what his ideas /solutions are. The Huck bolfs are a thought as well as the local ship yard who showed me a 25 ton hydraulic riviter (looks like a Hurst Tool). Their suggestion was to heat and reset the rivets. Replacing with new is a option also. Thanks for the input and ideas. Paul

  4. "The large,angry clerk"

I think those are the only kind you will find at any NYS DMV. Once at the DMV I was next on the long never ending snake line to get my ticket and the person in front was issued their ticket and I began to approach the counter. The clerk barks at me in the most angry black woman voice "Did you hear me call next? Get back on line". I take one step back to the line stand there for about 5 seconds while she does nothing but glare at me and then calls next. I couldn't help but laugh (few others did too) and man did she have an angry look on her face. Best part was I did not hear her call next the entire time and the person in front of me just walked up to the counter.

    I hate the DMV.

Yeah ,every trip to the DMV is an adventure...The last pleasent trip was in 1974 to the DMV at Roosevelt Raceway....I only left slightly sick. I won't believe anyoff this until I have the tags on the trailer and the reggi in my pocket.

  5. Now that I got most of the drive train refurbished, it's on to the chassis and front axle. The axle and springs are no problem, the chassis is. Over 3/4 of a century all the rivets on crossmembers and on alot of the suspension mounts and assorted brackets are loose. I would like to keep the original look of the chassis assembly. Short of looking for a real blacksmith anybody done an AC chassis before or have a thought on keeping the riveted look?

There was a member from I believe Great Brittin doing a AC but I can't locate the thread or member. Thanks Paul

  6. Believe it or not, that camper was a factory option for the Diamond Reo Trend. It was made to be removable and a regular truck bed could be fitted for hauling.

I showed my wife the option.........said we should look for one.........she said words I never thought she knew.

I think it had a Maryland tag, not far from Jersey,

Any idea how many were sold??

  7. An older Mack Sales man told me that in the late 60's the Gold Dogs were on 6 cylinder trucks and the Chrome was on V8's. I have seen that in older sales catalogs. I know the gold dog matched what was on the building in PA..

  8. This thread got me to looking closer at my little bit of paradise here on the eastern end of L.I.. Most of the NAPA parts stores are out of business, most all auto wrecking yards are closed due to local laws. The farms around me sell land to keep afloat nd than get there acreage taxed at the same rate as the "developed" land. The powers the be won't let a rail /truck freight line be build were the R.R. and I 495 are only 1/4 mile apart. Gas stations are closing because of unmeetable local requirements for spill containment. Grummans / U.S. Navy property was slated to be keep as a manufacturing site and now is going to be cleared to be a park. Is it this way all over or is it just here? Paul
