  1. I just got a reply from Bendix with a very nice PDF attachment. It shows you a nice diagram, notes, part descriptions, and part numbers! The hookup lets you treat the entire towed vheicle like a trailer including releasing the brakes from the tow truck.
  2. Wow what a truck! Too bad we dont know what happend to them . 17 yards is a whole lotta concrete, that must weigh about 70k! Truck looks like it could gross 100k.
  3. Its looking good there, paint looks just fine. Ah I envy you guys living in the country with plenty of property. Living in New York City makes it almost impossible to make room for a good restoration project. We have two shops, one is rented out so useless and the one I am in now has next to no room left in the yard. And my driveway at home is so small a motorcycle is all its good for. Lol maybe I should start cleang house at our shop here, then I might have some room.
  4. I was on Scanias website today and noticed they have a new engine to compeat with the Volvo D-16. It is a 620HP 2212 ft/lbs 16 liter V8! Mack supposedly could not clean up the E9 , yea right . I bet you could get one for repowering a Mack, Its not a true Mack engine but as close to an E9 as you can get By the way, these are marine engines but same thing for trucks.
  5. I more or less wanted to know how the setup works. I have seen many freightliner fl 60's and 70' for the NYC DEP Have those front air connections for towing. Also the old military trucks (dunno bout newer) had the front air lines for towing.
  6. It wouldnt knock it. It was introduced in 1995 well before volvo had anything to do with mack. Big grille, hood and raised cab to help with cooling in the hot desert of the outback. You need some real good cooling while pulling 170+ ton road trains with a 610hp E9.
  7. Thats because mack engines are at most 12 liters and about 50 or so inches long. The v8 e9 was compact enough to fit under shorter hoods. The Superliner had a 123 inch long bbc just 5 inches short of the pete 379 127" bbc long hood. The CL Has a 123" BBC and the Volvo VT880 with the D16 has about a 123" bbc. The titan has about a 120+ inch bbc. I bet with the intro of the mp 10 we will se a 120+ bbc. Probably as long as a CL hood.
  8. Ok I have seen a few trucks that have front mounted air hook ups for towing. The idea is that the tow truck can hook air lines to the truck in tow and be able to actuate the brakes on the towed vehicle like a trailer. Sounds interesting but I cant seem to find any diagrams on this setup. My idea is that you could plumb the supply line to the wet tank to charge the system using some type of special valve that also releases the spring brakes (something like the spring brake valve on trailers). Then the service line could activate a valve that bypasses and mimics the foot treadle. For a tractor you would also have to figure out a way to bypass the trailer supply valve or manually charge the trailer after you charged the tractor in tow. Any ideas?
  9. I hope for the same thing! The grille on the trident/titan/superliner is reminicent of the old superliner grille. Big square grille with MACK across the top. The rawhide is nice but nothing more then a fancy CH. Bring back the superliner name! Take the new cab they have, put a strait hood on it with the titan grille and they could have a flagship truck for vocational or longhaul.
  10. Wasnt there an eaton/fuller lightning 10 that automatically split the gears and you just shifted it as a 5 speeed? I think it was supposed to be a fleet transmission for local work. It must have failed as I dont see it on the roadranger website (never herd of problems just people knocking it).
  11. There is a nice tandem LT with a Cummins for sale on ebay. Its about 60 miles west of Chicago. Its startign bid is 12,000 which isnt too bad concidering you get a second cab and front end to go with it. I am almost tempted to bid myself.
  12. I was looking at Sisu trucks of Finland and noticed they offer either Mack 440/480HP or CAT C18 630HP Engines. Real nice to see the dog working under the hood (or should I say cab) of those trucks. Has a Renault premium cab (like the Australian Mack Quantum) and either a ZF or Fuller transmission. Love those Planetary axles.
  13. Just saw this screen saver on macktrucks.com today. Real nice video of an MP7 being assembeld from the block up (computer animation). Its a hefty 87MB so you better have cable/dsl or what ever to download it. http://macktrucks.com/default.aspx?pageid=685
  14. Great page, thanks for the link! Reminds me of this girl my friend used to date. Her last name was Brockway and was supposedly a decendent of George Brockway (she knew of the truck company). Real hot lookin girl but was a total head case lol.
  15. I told Trent about it in a post he started in this section. Good job posting the link, that book taught me almost everyting I know about air brakes. If anyone is curious about the European air brake setups then try this catalog link from Knorr-Bremses (the parent company of Bendix).
  16. I cant speak for all of us, but I dont dislike Volvo. Dont get me wrong the vt880 is a real sweet looking truck. I just don't want to see mack reduced to an empty shell like autocar was. It was a joke anyway, laugh
  17. Ever see the new mack pinnacle? Ever wonder why the Mack name is off center and so small? Well here is your answer! It really is kinda scary how the volvo logo and slash fit so nicely on the grille. Lets hope it aint true! (have nothing better to do right now)
  18. I wonder why they have a titan here in the states for testing. It would be sweet if mack usa is evaluating its potential for sale here! Well I guess I will have to keep on dreaming. I would love to import one and convert it to left hand steer. Seen a couple with 525HP E9's and about 73k miles going for about $80,000. There are some nice real big road train haulers with 600/620hp cummins, tri drive or tandem planetary hub reduction. Those go for about 125 grand and can haul up to 170 tons. Ahhh I want one!
  19. I think Bendix is getting the technology from knorr Bremse who has had the systems availible for a while now. The coolest thing they have is an electronic abs system that hooks to the air bags and adjusts the brake pressure according the the vheicle weight during an emergency braking maneuver. Wabco has similar equipment. Nice to see were getting this here in the states now.
  20. From the album: Stuff

Wabco Duomatic air line coupler system.

  22. I know about spring brakes but how do they differ from maxi brakes? How does the maxi brake lock the tires? Oh and how does the wedge type brakes work versus the s cam style, anyone have a diagram of this?
  23. I have seen lots of Australian trucks on Hanks page that have polished demountable rims. I have never seen them here in the states. Here are some examples from Hanks site: Superliner with chrome rims Kenworth with chrome rims (I love the look of the polished demountable rims and double bolt clamps) Anyone know how to get them here in the US?
