  1. did you find a cause for gauge burn out =loose terminals got hot/ bad gauge etc ? fortunately damage was minimal .
  2. today's world guess I could have gone with double up a strip of the 80 grit emery then wrap the cap to protect it from the wrench.
  3. now lets be careful and stay on topic LOL. 1- total confusion saying tater sack ! 2-if he has a good condition Tater sack it's worth more then the cap!!!🤣.3= figured term burlap was challenging enough to say. LMAO.😁
  4. once again it's matter of pictures if possible have not been posted previously. should be as stated a thread on cap. if they are that tight/rusted on wrap the cap in heavy cloth ( my day they were wrapped with burlap ) I know 90percent saying "what is burlap !!LOL then use a strap wrench or HD chain style strap wrench
  5. interesting the pin stripe on the wheel spokes.
  6. ALL funerals are sad events ;when attending one such as You posted, and see the group of trucks attending it shows a gathering of the greatest friends respecting the loss of one of their own. Sorry for Your loss. I attended Mass this morning which was given on the passing anniversary day of a good ole farmer from town I am honored to have known. has been said " longer you live the more funerals you attend. any age someone passes is bad ; when the ole timers pass , knowledge lost is unreplaceable.
  7. seems conversion to air compressor /PS combo would be way to go. parts availability should be better, even to find generator/PS combo would be nice for originality ; replace /repair down the road will get worse before better. air compressor set up might prove to be a better system for operation also. eventually changing over to an alternator will put you back to square one with the generator set up tooo.
  8. would be interesting to check them out at truck show type event. take it the reason for high cab is all most are stand up to bunk ? or bunk over drivers . watch out low bridges in U S A .
  9. BUT LOOK AT WHAT WILL REPLACE HIM !!!!! worse or better ==you decide. told my wife in '63 it was easy to take out someone like a president with a couple of scope shots; not as easy today. those "in charge" won't think twice about taking out an entire plane to get one on board. Russia seem to thing it would work.
  10. now that explains a lot to match the pictures. thank you for reply. reason for asking due to one side shot of tractor looked to be the fontaine fifth wheel slider rail . thought the distance from battery box to front set of tandems looked real close. went back to page one (long time back) no clear shot of side.
  11. the 73 as a tractor originally ,was it a slider or fixed 5th wheel?
  12. the air compressors with PS mounted pumps were and to a point still are more common then generator mounted PS set ups. not doing any good today, back in the day I did see the generator set ups which even then weren't common. due largely to fact PS wasn't a standard item . men were men and drove Macks LOL
  13. Matts B-73 project has become an inspiration to many. keep telling yourself == "I can do it I can do it ! the B-73 WILL ALWAYS be the first place trophy truck= your goal is to try for second place. with all the sanding, don't think I have to ask = are you wearing a good quality mask?? fiberglass dust is way bad news.
  14. it's called the challenges of retro working things of the past.
  15. my mistake; enlarged the picture = not U/DM . cab looks centered -R
  16. back ground looks to have some real good inventory. U/DM hood by road side might work good for mowerman = save some bondo time.
  17. quality of the day; also hood says M A C K. built tough
  18. you can always go buy something new today ; I'm sure the paint will "fall off" . working on old is another sign of how well things were made back then.
  19. Dang ; 1 1/2 hr drive : i would have attempted that for a good truck show. went through prospect today. they are having their car show. don't do much for me. a lot of "plastic". tooo much $$$ for plastic that many didn't build just wrote out expensive checks for. guess I was spoiled going to Brockway show :which I still have some pictures to down load here.
  20. what show were you referring to? the BMT/Watts show or a local CT event ?
  21. Phil Noonan ; that name sound real familiar. sadly I see the 'late" Phil Noonan. list of those I worked with/around from dealers/sales personal /mechanics /drivers etc seem to be having the "late" in front of their name.
  22. super story and pictures. purpose of buying the 2017 GMC 2500 diesel was to retire and pull a decent RV and see the country. like you say= all the pictures of things like the grand canyon don't do it justice. you have to see with your own eyes. seems someone (wife) decided "I don't want to go in an RV". now back in the taxed over state of CT ; sold the GMC .
  23. seems this topic went off topic ==I DIDN'T do it !! LOL pulling injectors ended up on wheel seals . guess it's ok; same truck
  24. sounds like a unit we need pictures of. especially the interior ;those right hand drives unique. can use them in the states to deliver mail.
  25. wheel dolly is definitely the way to go. for someone having one unit which may be a show truck only , the wheel dolly is an expensive investment. find one to borrow . worked for a fleet of 4-5 units ; yrs I did the grease technique ; finally the "frugal "(CHEAP) owner invested in a wheel dolly. worked the best.
