doing all the gears isn't always that easy , back in the delivery days of NYC a "co-driver " who couldn't drive had to start out in first no matter what and go through all 10. one time at last delivery aiming down hill ; trailer empty ; he couldn't start out in 2nd might have even used 3rd. what a mess. flat ground having fun all gears ready. back in the Mack days learning myself on the 20's/18 twin sticks always used every gear. picking up two new trucks from new haven truck rental for warranty one a quad other five speed; I took the quad (DM611SX ). I stopped at stop sign other driver behind me (totally wasted on beer) never saw my brake lights cause I used the gears not brakes to stop. he put the two DM rails through the radiator of the R he had. he ruined a good thing. we were paid $10.oo for a two hr trip . $5.oo an hr was major money for me.

1/50 Mack B81 with Lowboy and Cat Traxcavator
mechohaulic replied to MackSTL68's topic in Mack Scale Model and Diecast Corner
81 's looking real nice ;(is there such a thing as a bad picture of a B-81? ) nope. for the sake of realism only NOT a criticism : take some flat black/brown and paper towel ;dab the fifth wheel, gives the look of grease. flat white/ yellow for glass portion of headlights , same flat black/brown for tread on tires gives appearance of road dirt. tiniest brush you have and flat brown between the wheel and spokes making the brake drums appear rusting. small contractors black marking pen (size of a ball point pen) carefully mark the space between radiator shutters. regular pencil will work also. I just have this thing for details ; if I studied details before say "I do" : I'd be single today. live and learn.😄 -
not to off topic ; one of the major challenges to retirement is weight gain. a gym has benefits but could also be $$. sign for a yr then fade out after 6 months. another option is a GOOD tread mill. $$ to purchase but any time use. just no incentive to tread by ones self . pounds add fast and are slow to leave. getting older doesn't help the ambition level either. you could try and chase a CF-600 down the road;; just don't bark at it while running.

now I should know those units = not 20 minutes away. nothing states they are in wolcott, just the sender. weren't that many back then with quarries having those. O& G might still have some.

1/50 Mack B61 Custom Mack Trucks Towing.

nice looking B model. see a H in the back ground. run a cord from wrecker bed to a "light bar" on back of towed unit for more added realism. -
how do i line up a bajo suspension
mechohaulic replied to wondering's topic in Driveline and Suspension
am I that old !!! really= rear housing (back in the dinosaur time ) was always referred to as a BANJO . just sayin. I'm likin the location as Houlton Maine. be a good road call. haven't been there in too many yrs. exit 302 ? then 10mile on rte 1 to farm I worked on. -
I couldn't have said it better. it's as if you wrote my story. starting out "as a young bloke " I had those mechanics willing to teach the youngster . while there were those which said _ no one taught me , let him learn through his mistakes. 1/3grumpy/ 1/3 there for a pay check and the small number who stopped by a project to help. remember first time I put rod/main bearing in a Mack engine ( which was out of the truck laying on it's side ). must have taking half the day. even the foreman walked by and chuckled. I was only 18? never saw a diesel engines insides before. YES things are way different today compared to (80) years ago. books of knowledge were available AND USED . not look at a cell phone .

mechohaulic replied to Grind's topic in Air Systems and Brakes
never be concerned with "keeping the questions to a minimum" ! the more questions people ask also assist others in the learning process. when ever a valve or device is in question ; those are the items which pictures posted help greatly in proper identification from the BMT group. -
the only thing which will be there 20 yrs from now connected to the plastic/ computerize junk being built to days world will be the payment book.

you don't put illegals in "storage" they get the best of the best, this country has forgotten the VETERANS who sacrificed for this country ; THEY are put in forgotten storage. showed a VETERAN my back jeep window other day which states NEVER FORGET OUR VETERANS FOR WHAT THEY HAVE GIVEN FOR OUR COUNTRY : HE was brought to tears and shook my hand and said thank you. I also was brought to tears.
