  1. another reason I miss having the Grandparents farm!!! 30x50shop those two pieces of history so close and a fun project to restore. would have looked great next to my '49 EE and '49EF.
  2. and they did an excellent job hauling WITHOUT computers/modules / and boost pressures and like the muscle cars of the day had an engine sound never duplicated today. texaco oil ran a fleet of long nose GMCs having 318. living on the water near rte34 every night I could listen to the 318's climbing the hills waiting for the sound of the down shift.
  3. I had to "walk away "from some issues in life at the moment , so BMT is the best place to be. so I logged on to see the DM progress (how's that). being retired figured Bob had it completed /painted and driving it in the local parades in town!!🤣
  4. a project that small using a GOOD grade 8 bolt would be acceptable. trunnion bolts defiantly body bound needed.
  5. hope I didn't start any bad habits on these forums LOL A topic of DM progress has turned into a generator forum ; which I didn't do (this time) LMAO.
  6. have lucked out removing the body bound bolts by removing the nylon lock nuts and washers; install a basic nut (5/8 -or 3/4 fine thread) fully on bolt than a B F sledge hammer rail the bolt. once it starts to move loosen nut keep hammering. brass round stock to finish removal. less chance of bolt damage. this technic is for days gone by when parts were reused not just thrown away and new installed.
  7. if you have the set up and capabilities to SAFELY separate the units; would definitely be a better way to go. can check for worn parts etc .
  8. now that's what I call a real go getter' LOL ! not only having hopes of finding one of the impossible BUT two. best of luck and keep B M T crew updated.
  9. any future plans on removing the G& L gray stripe and install the white hood scheme? saw the other "you call, we haul "triaxle in Watertown paving with S&S other day.
  10. we can only hope the evil in this country/world don't take him out like they did J F K in '63. another real American that wanted to build a strong nation and save human lives.
  11. safety always the important factor! block the body securely while under neath messing with hyd lines. should be able to loosen the hyd lines taking pressure off then remove valve. did you try the redneck method by tapping the valve while in down position.? when it drops it's fast!! close to being crushed by cab over yrs back that was left partially up in frozen weather to access batteries. when I cracked the hyd line ; cab came down fast. there's not alot in the valves ` stuck plunger ?
  12. the ED pickup is many times confused with the Mack JR. I had a ' 49 EE Mack dump which is one size up from ED in the E series. also a 49 EF flatbed. ED wasn't limited to '36/38 like the JR was. as the B-20 was in relationship to the B=61; ED was smaller version of the larger E series.
  13. the diaphragm is the most important component to the long/short stroke chamber, 2 1/2 vs 3 diaphragm side by side show considerable difference in height. not good to put a 2 1/2 in a long stroke chamber. have seen the pressure blow apart the diaphragm from pushing it further then manufactured for.
  14. don't have any "popping noise " any more since prostate cancer .
  15. the outer/inner parts I remember!! it's the "tool to hold the outer drum"; can't recall.
  16. what's it look like ?? 50 yrs later no Body tells me nothin till now!! install the drum/nut then air gun the sh- t outta it. never cared for the "auto" dividers . then again never cared for auto transmissions in big trucks with exceptions "sanitation removal units /fire dept etc )
  17. do I see a red bottle jack sitting on the ground holding up the set of wheels ??? where is the board under the jack for safety ?????
  18. always loosen the fasteners (not getting set up saying "loosen the nuts") then hit the rim. watched a pro tire man remove all the fasteners ; stand to the side and rail the rim with a large sledge: those wedges went flying. I wouldn't want to be in front of them.
  19. what's all this talk about an OLD cobra CB (especially the 29 ) ; I bought those and used them when they were BRAND NEW !!!! LOL
  20. being a fire pumper, should have a dual start system ; does it have the master disconnect switch ?? having "start 1 /start 2 ??seems some what a light battery program ' meaning only 2 -- 12's , not 2 sets of 6 ? any electrical work done lately on a possible positive ground unit and someone hooked a negative ground device ??
  21. picture of the good ole better days. don't want to show my age;;; but worked on those when they ran the highways .LOL
  22. memory serves me right ; that was nicknamed the giant.
  23. not only do I miss the car; but more over the pretty girl that sat on the passenger side.!!
  24. It's not "shit hanging around so long" ;;; it more like none of us expected to accumulate such a vast inventory. LOL . I've scaled back from the farm days ; where you saved everything to now , and still with this moving project am finding stuff forgot I had.
  25. block the wheels/ let the brakes off / jack up one of the front drive wheels and by hand spin the wheels . WITH ENGINE OFF . you won't spin it fast enough to create the clicking noise. but possibly can hear/locate a problem in rear end or drive line. this will also take tension off the drive line so you are able to go under and check for an issue with drive shaft. just a thought from an ole man. everyone else covered the rest.
