  1. correct on the three main groups But within those groups in terms of making dash shift pattern decals are sub groups. a quad 5x4 could have a dash decal of 18 or 20 speed. and so on.
  2. possibly it was the young eager age , or not knowing what a computer was which made the difference then. to ground up build an engine ; nervous beyond words as the key is turned and it comes to life ! you can build a transmission/rear end and hope for the best; BUT an engine . thankful to have had some of the best teachers.
  3. as I've always said "opinions are like ass =oles ; everyone has one. no one can decide except you. it's your wallet. to properly do dry sleeves alone in a Mack could be time consuming /expensive. hone/check . sleeve may seat perfect first try . goes in great ; top to low = bring it back out for a shim; only 5 more to go . like sex = in the hole out the hole . point is a proper sleeve puller is needed. borrow/ rent / call a friend has one =pay cash. what ever it may take to build a darn good strong MACK. be thankful it's NOT a U or DM mack. been there too.
  4. 12 ft dia nest !!! that would be equivalent to the great pyramid in Egypt. the yrs it took to create. to have been able to remove cut in half and study. Nature at it's best. underground no less without flood lights.
  5. don't tell everyone. at least the covered wagons I drove had single wheels. which were much better then those stone wheels I started my driving lessons with.LOL
  6. the use of "budd wheels"goes back to the '20-30's alll sizes BUT they where single fasteners. the duel fasteners came to be in bigger HD units having inner/outer.
  7. new updated inner nuts ARE stamped L/R
  8. you have to be concerned of the jacket color today ; it might be rainbow color!! could be a queen bee!!
  9. NO NOT Religious fish a bees nest !! LMAO🤣🤣
  10. using left thread /right thread was due to theory inner/outer nuts same right hand thread would loosen on left side going with rotation of wheel. someone swapping wheels to opposite side may create a situation. fortunately I've never had a lug wrong rotation wheel . wasn't my theory just response I was given as to why the left thread. MANY yrs ago.
  11. the dual fasteners became known as Budd inner/ outer nuts since they were used on budd wheels.
  12. defiantly has to be done at night in darkness most bees are back. yrs back grandparents farm had 3 in ground nest. 1/2 gal gas , long pole with rag wrapped on end; soaked the rag , poured gas in each hole then the flame torch. ,next morning dug up the nest. feel bad for the little bast- - - s . they work so hard to haul all that dirt out of the hole plus build underground home so intricate. all while queen bee sits on her ass.
  13. not sure if the alt would have damage since there wasn't a power wire to it. an alt needs power to create power. a generator makes power. two wire to ground might not be total all bad. not best just not bad. some acc go on with the key switch
  14. another large gauge (red) wire should also be on the starter post which would go to circuit breakers as shown in picture; explaining why unit has power to breakers just no charge to batteries. number of methods _test light /meter take wire off chassis ground and alt feed using preferred method check see if its the same wire. it is the connect to starter battery post and back on alt
  15. possibly the output wire from alt has a larger eyelet terminal (1/2 dia) on it at other end which should be on the starter battery post and was mistakenly thought to be a ground wire and put on frame. is that wire close enough to reach starter post ?
  16. now I'm confused : does that hold true for budd wheels of older days?? left hand thread is "backwards" thread.
  17. but there are some of US not wrapped to tighty and use the highway arrow signs to know proper direction.🤣
  18. DON'T allow frustration to confuse the brain cells to point you do everything and still the MF nut doesn't move only to find out you were turning it the wrong way !! now who would do that ???😱😱. here I am folks.
  19. being "an old trailer" going with idea these are steel wheels not alum which would have the thinner shank inner nuts. option two of drilling the bevel on inner nut allows for penetrating oil to soak threads/nuts , also weakens the inner nut. after drilling inner bevel . a few smacks with BF hammer at broken end helps loosen situation on occasion.
  20. you got the outer nuts off which would indicated going right direction of thread ; not tightening inners due to left/right hand . depending on how much you cut with die grinder . which is #1 method for broken removal. two ways which have proven successful :: 1- install the outer nut back on close to wheel and weld it to inner deep socket /impact try removal 2- drill number of small holes in broken inner nut close to rim . then the pipe wrench. another reply just came in ; possible same.
  21. far as the post being opposite in box left vs right could be just how they were installed. important issue is they are HOOKED up the SAME ! negative ground all neg post are ground , grounds from alt to block to frame should be correct. the other ground wire to frame I go with idea it's wrong. do you know history of this unit terms of who did what and when, ? new alternator ? this just started or been since ??? was worked on .
  22. NO ;rotate to put crank journal at lowest point. bottom plate was slotted on threaded rod. slanted going in liner leveled out at bottom. covered most of liner bottom. adjustable three legged top. didn't get involved with Mack wet liners.only stand out was the experimental 866 in the FL700. started at Baskin with the DD 8v's , wet liners were the thing. didn't understand how a small o-ring did the job! LOL
  23. old school then : had O T C hyd liner remove/ install kit . so many fun things I had.
  24. when you say "just two wires coming out" both to ground ; are they both on same terminal or on two separate post ? same term ok. missing power wire to alt. two wires on separate terminals - back to following wires.
  25. How is the truck set up with the batteries? ==positive post to ground or negative post? did you check wires from the starter looking for a possible burnt wire which may have been power source alt/starter chafed through was thought to be a ground then connected to chassis. alternator have a terminal marked + ? run temp new wire from alt to starter?
