  1. 2000 cx613 w/460 around 600,000 miles with no previous major motor work has alot of steam out the blow by and in the oil fill tube. Uses a gallon of water every other day. What could be going wrong?
  2. Was just wondering if there are any advantages of ordering a 100% Mack. Are Mack rears alot better than competitors? Drove a 95 with a mack trans. shifts nice, but seems like theres alot of distance between gears. Are the new Mack trans. this way, or are the gears closer together like a fuller?
  3. We have had the injector cups replaced twice. The first time they replaced the ones they thought was bad. The second time they said the other ones needed replaced that didn't get replaced the first time. That really wasn't a good enough "fix" for us, so we told them to replace them all at one time and we picked up what warranty didn't. What we experienced with that was after the truck would sit overnight, it would crank over more than usual before it would start. So hopefully its maybe just a connector issue.
  4. Our 2008 cxu mp 8 485 showed a code of mid 128, I forget the rest of the numbers. Looked it up in the book and ended up being #5 injector code. The motor was running rough, but still running. I erased the fault code using my steering column mounted switch. As soon as i did that, the lighting bolt went out and the motor smoothed out. Ran the truck the rest of the day with no problem. Right after I erased the code and started back down the interstate it started a regen right away. What could have been the cause of this fault code????? Thanks
  5. MackPro68 what air susp. do you recomend being the best you can get on a mack?
  6. I had posted last week about our deal with the vibration on our cxu and nobody had replied. I guess my biggest question i'd like answered is, how do you know if your air bags are to full of air? Can taking some air out soften up the ride some without throwing the drive shaft off angle? Thank you very much for any info
  7. Our cxu seems to ride rougher than what it did when it was new. When new it rode real nice other than a vibration getting up to speed. At 10,000 miles Mack put new shocks, cab mounts, and motor mounts on to fix the vibration, that did fix the vibration, but it then rode rough after that, and for the last 130,000 miles we've dealt with the rough ride. Is there any cure for this? The air bags seem plenty hard. They are pump up to the point that you can clearly see the whole bottom base. Is this how they should be?, or can we deflate them some? If so how? Any suggestions are welcome thank you
  8. I don't know , but with all the problems I hear guys talk about the new detroits and new cummins have, i'll stick with our Mp 8 485 thats still going strong nearing 150,000 miles.
  9. Thanks for the reply. How much is the conversion kit and what is involved with making this conversion? Talked to our local Mack dealer and the service dept. hadn't heard of this kit. I gave them the service bullitan number today now im waiting for a return phone call from them.
  10. We have already replaced the original air cylinder last winter, now the new one is starting to "stiffen up". Anybody else have problems? It makes it difficult to adjust pedal free play with the cylinder not acting properly.
  11. Was wondering what grease everybody uses on there trucks as well as how often does everybody grease there trucks? We use john deere multipurpose grease. We had been using it on the 5th wheel, but it seemed like it was dry every week so i started using castrols 5th wheel grease and this seems to last longer.
  12. Hi, the headlights in our cxu seems very dim on low beam. I have seen on tv commercials for improved brighter lights. Was at Napa today getting a light for our cx and asked them about the brighter lights. They stock them. Is it ok to use these bulbs? Does anyone run these brighter bulbs and see any difference? Thank you
  13. Im not sure where your from, but D&D truck repair and towing in Hagerstown Maryland are big into Macks. They do alot of stuff for alot of the Mack test unit trucks. They have alot of motor "takeouts" from wrecked trucks.
  14. 2004 vision w/427 tore the belt that runs the alt. water pump, and ac. Also frayed up the fan belt. The idler pulley bolted to the block has a chunk out of it as well as the tensioner looks twisted a little bit. My question is, is there enough room to change out the tensioner and idler without taking the fan or anything else out? Also, what for bolt head holds the tensioner and idler on? Thanks in advance P.S. It's been one of those days. The top radiator hose on our 2008 cxu created a 2 in. slit in it letting the truck loose lots of coolant. Hose looks brand new, but has a 2 in slit in it. Any thoughts on why this happened? Mack dealer didn't have one so i went to the KW/volvo dealer and was able to match a volvo hose up(had to cut about 3 in. off to make it work) Seems to be working fine.
  15. I had stated in a post sometime ago(a year or so) that right after my company that I work for took delivery of our new pinnacle it seemed to have a vibration getting up to speed. The fix for this was new shocks, cab and motor mounts, which took the vibration away, but the truck rides alot rougher now than what it did before they did this. The suspension just seems alot stiffer now, even the slightest uneven terrain will make a wheel spin, but we never noticed that untill they did this upgrade. So my question for the mack techs. is,, Are the new shocks a stiffer shock than what was on it? Could we put shocks on it that was on it to get the smooth ride back? Did the cab and motor mounts fix the vibration and the new shocks weren't really needed? I love the truck, but I would like the smooth ride back. P.S. Why did Mack go with the shocks on the outside of frame on the pinnacles instead of the inside like our vision? The vision rides real smooth.
  16. Interstate truck equip. is the Mack dealer in Hagerstown Maryland which is now Baltimore Mack
  17. Our cxu pinnacle has the dash mounted cb mount. Have seen ones with it mounted in the middle compartment of the headliner, is everything pre wired in the headliner for this? Or does it come from the factory wired for one or the other(dash or headliner)?
  18. If you were to go the new truck route this seems like a good deal? I know everybody doesn't want or can't go the new truck route, but i thought i'd just through this out there http://www.truckpaper.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=2236154
  19. Notice in the pictures from truckpaper the tires are new? But the ad says nothing about new tires.
  20. From what I read, Mack is putting the standard high strength plastic DEF tank inside the alum. fuel tank, they are not actually doing a split alum tank for the reason of what you said about the urea being corrosive.
  21. Was on the Mack site and seen some photos of a day cab with the scr components on it. Seen the passenger side had the DPF were it always was and then the burner beside it with 2 air tanks beside it. Then on the driver side it had the battery box with the DEF tank then the fuel tank, didn't look bad, but I was doing some reading and it seems like there may be some options with the way some of the scr components are set up on the truck. Read were they are gonna have an option were you can get the DEF tank mounted inside the fuel tank. So with that being said, you should be able to order a pinnacle that looks just like the 08 and 09's do with the battery box and the three air tanks under the battery box on the driver side, a Def tank inside the driver side fuel tank, and the only visable difference will be the burner mounted on the passenger side beside the DPF??? Which the burner does not look like an eye sore since it just looks like a box with a stainless cover over it. Just looking if anyone can shed some light on this,,,does this all sound correct? thanks
  22. I totally understand were everybody is coming from and not wanting to have anything to do with the new emissions. The way I look at it is this is how its gonna be, I don't think we'll see the day were they take all the crap off of the trucks and go back to the way they used to be. So with that being said I just hope for the best and most likely in 2 years we hopefully look back and be like "I guess the '10 emissions weren't that bad after all". As a matter of fact everyday i say that about the '07 '08 emissions with the induction of the DPF. When I first heard of the DPF I thought "thats all we need", but as i said before, we currently run a 2008 cxu 613 with mp-8 485 and love it. The DPF and regen process has never ever been an issue for us. The 2008 cxu we have is ALOT more dependable than our 2004 cxn w/427. I guess my point is weather we like it or not, everything will work out in the end. Btw this is a great site to visit. lots of great info!
  23. I was wondering with the new technology and wondering "what if my trucks lets me sit", is it any easier to lease a truck through someone like Ryder or Penske? That way when it lets you sit they take care of getting you a loaner truck and they fix your truck. Now im sure it costs a little more to be in a full service lease, but I guess you have a little more piece of mind of knowing someone is there to back you? Is there anyone out there that has been in a lease program or anybody with any opinions about this? thanks in advance
  24. Seen a 97 CH Mack day cab w/E-7 427, mack 9 speed 519,000 miles. Could use a paint job, but the the rest of the truck looks pretty stable with some TLC. Price is 17,900. Does that seem like a deal? and is that year of Mack a good year? thank you
