  1. Hi, well 16500kms and all over. bang. it spun number 4 main bearing. have sourced new ones, my question now is do I pull it out and fully rebuild it, or should i just roll in new bearings. it went bang because it did have oil pressure problems, under 10lbs when idling hot and only 30lbs when running. so i know why it went bang. I dropped the trailers on the side of the road and even crawled it 40miles home. bet a cat or any any other engine wouldnt have done that. so whats peoples thoughts? do these have any other issues when this happens? an Rob, sump gaskets are available at the moment. 36 bucks each. 2. Hi, ATF is also used in a lot of manual gearbox,s to so they change gears when cold. Grant
  3. i know you did, so did pags, but the book says different. i chose the 20/60 to help its oil problems, then when i went north i knew then it had a serious problem cause it dropped to 2 pounds, got back here and pulled it to bits. oil pressure good now. what were you doing near pags any way? not in Albany any more? Grant
  4. Hi, i use dextron 3 or 2. Tranny oil is designed not to change its viscosity. And when ur chaseing 2 trailers an a dolly to hook up to the 3rd trailer u need ur steering Grant
  5. Hi, that will be great thankyou. I have the specs for the spring, just not coil diameter an spring thickness. I think the oil pressure will drop with correct oil. Grant.
  6. Hi, 15/40 it is then.thank you. I put the thicker oil in it to begin with due to the low oil pressure. now I gotta get the bugger down . does anyone have a pressure relief valve off one of these? the one thats half way down the block, I need to know what diam the spring is, what the thickness of coils are. as I am getting 2 new springs made up, one for the pump and one for this valve. Grant
  7. From the album: 69 flintstone R600 rebuild conversion to R700

my 866 oil pressure relief spring. this should be over 4 inches long if in one piece
  8. Hi did the master gauge today, still low. took sump off and found destroyed relief spring at back of pump. could not get another one. went to a spring works shop who are making another one to specs. so in the meantime I have got a suitable repair, the oil pressure may be a little high with 20-60 tho. Its now over 140 when revving till it warms up then drops to 90 and has 34 at idle. what oil specs do you use over there for these engines? Grant
  9. My 866 did this. found the rack was stuck due to one of the big springs brakeing and kicking to one side binding the rack. i fixed it but opted for a new pump any way. so have a close look at those springs. Grant
  10. Hi, thanks for the replies. no internal work done. i have had 2 heads off an fuel pump was changed, but it was this low prior to that. am not sure I even have correct oil in it. 15/40?? I am now using 20/60 diesel oil and its no better. took the heat exchanger off yesterday and stripped and rebuilt it, it was 30% blocked, still no good. Grant
  11. Hi, the 866 I have seems to be running well, its done 12000kms in 4 weeks. the oil pressure is scary tho, 30lbs then when hot it drops to 5lbs at idle. is this normal? if not how do i fix? its pulling a B double thats 62,000 kilo,s Grant
  12. Hi, no worries, thank you. have not found one yet, its needed urgently as its getting hot down here and no air con. Grant
  13. Hi, am looking for what the title says. my engine has a 3 bolt cover where a drive assembly would be, i assume i would be able to remove the cover and then bolt on a drive? i want to fit air con. has any one got this dive assembly for sale? thanks Grant
  14. Hi, that will be easier than converting an R600 into an R700 then adding a V8 like I did. Grant
  15. Hi, why dont you come down under and take a ride in a triple or one of the quads with the LNG, http://www.ngvglobal.com/new-lng-supply-new-lng-brand-for-australian-hd-vehicles-0506 Grant
  16. Hi, all hope all is well over there. this subject I can actually help a a little. Down here in Oz there are many companies running trucks and ROAD TRAINS on LNG and its very successful http://www.mitchellcorp.com.au/news?id=17 this company is in Perth and haul some massive weight and are using LNG on most of there vehicles. cars are also run on it, my own vehicle is set up with it and sure you get some issues, but its worth using.
