As an EX big city street racer from the 80's, Im not judging you but street racing is bad news these days, the cops don't have a sense of humor about it anymore. Here in Texas it can turn into a Felony real quick if something goes wrong. Whatta ya mean cops have no sense of humor. Look at how we roll in Philly, the City of Brotherly Shove.

Been a cop for 20 years and NEVER heard anything about quotas. In fact, I think they are illegal. The thinking in my department is simply this, we give you a fairly new car with a full tank of gas, A/C, Am/Fm radio, and a ticket book and tell you, we'll see you in 8 hours. Now, after driving around for 8 hours, YOU HAVE TO SEE SOMETHING THAT PEAKS YOUR INTEREST! Somebody has to cross your path who needs to be stopped and investigated. If they get away with a warning or a ride to HQ in handcuffs, well, that's up to you. ATTITUDE always worked for me, be respectful, and you got away with a warning. Cop an attitude, and buddy, I'm looking for things to lock you up for. Not write you a ticket, but arrest you! I still have a soft spot for truckers, and I sometimes take a lost driver right to the shipper's loading dock as a professional courtesy.

Scott, it's called revenue enhancement. Only the federal government could think up such a thing.

I really enjoy looking at the very nicely restored R models, but I have to ask. Where can we get those spoilers below the front bumper? They really set off the front of the truck.

As a "big city boy", we don't have this sort of activity. Although street racing is very popular here, i have to ask a question. How is it that three trucks broke traction and headed for the side lines? Too much torque, bad dirt surface? What gives?

We all know the story of the Yellow Roadway Corporation. We all know how DHL funded Yellow Freight to buy out Roadway, and then USF. We all heard about USF attempting to buy-out YRC. Now it seems that DHL won't be flying domestic air freight in the U.S. DHL has contracted UPS to fly all domestic air freight in the U.S., thus making DHL, UPS' biggest customer. At a recent general body meeting of the Teamster's local, it was brought out that DHL, may in fact cease all U.S. operations. This would put about 450 people out of work here in Philadelphia and the surrounding area. Then there is a rumor that Yellow may close Roadway. After what, a few years operating, Yellow knows Roadway's area of operations, billing process, dispatching and all the other things that make a trucking company as great as Roadway is. And to think how Roadway consolidated terminals so drivers from area terminals are'nt "tripping over" each other delivering freight to the same customer. Could Roadway fall to the wayside? I hope not. Could it be that DHL bit off more than it could chew? Is this another sign of european arrogance such as with the Mack/Volvo debacle? DHL owns a bank in Germany and has it hands in the postal system as well. Could the down turn of the economy be at fault? I remember when I left Overnite Transportation in 1989, I was told Carolina was closing and that there were only going to be 2 or 3 major common carrier trucking companies left hauling LTL freight. Is that time now? I believe that congressional hearing's will take place due to anti-trust issues. Things that make you go...........hmmmmm.

I have a problem with the Islamic candidate wanting to implement a system of "card checks". When you vote in a union election, there will be NO SECRET BALLOT! Not only will the union know how and who you voted for, so will your employer. You union guys and those of thinking about unionizing, be careful, be VERY careful. I like the "Moose Shootin' Mama".

Glad to see they kept the green R model. I took a picture of that truck at least 8 years ago, and it still looks as great as the last time I saw it.

We're not all that dumb, we know when someone pees down our leg and tries to tell us it's raining. Just another euro trash company destroying the livelihoods of good working people building what once was an icon of this country, now it is a questionable product at times. However, as die-hard Mack people, we will stand proudly by Mack,"The Greatest Name in Trucks". Ever hear that phrase, Niphilli? It means a lot to us and the good folks who work for Mack. Not putting Volvo concepts into Mack trucks, not building Volvo frames or using Volvo motors for use in Mack Trucks! Keep Mack,ALL MACK, you know the word, Pedigree? What's next, a sleeper with IKEA furniture? Come on..... Sorry for the rant, not much fishing in Cape May N.J. this weekend.

Once I was on a construction overtime detail. Another officer was on the other end of the construction. The other officer goes over the radio, he has a truck stopped. I go to back him up. Here, he has a company tri-axle dump pulled over. I asked what did the driver do? The officer say's, the driver was exiting the construction site with his tag axle down. He lifted the tag axle to make the turn, bu did'nt put the tag axle down quick enough after making the turn. I said "Are you S@!(*#*& me? The officer then quotes the Federal Motor Carrier Act. I walked up to the driver and apologized for the other officer as he's a anal cavity. The driver was cool and said the company would pay for the ticket. But how about that guy,working 8 hours overtime, paid by the construction company, than you bang one of their drivers for a stupid tag-axle violation.

Back about 1997, I was hauling an empty 20 foot container back to the piers in Philly. I was about 20 miles out going south on I-95. I had an older R-Model Mack with an Eaton 9spd. This truck could do 68 mph with no problems. A Pa. State Trooper snuck behind me somehow and pulled me over. This cop looked like Ed "TOO TALL" Jones. He was huge! I got all my paperwork together, including my police ID card and handed it to him. When he saw my ID card he asked if I was still an active officer. I replied, yes I am. He then asked where I worked, I told him in the Detective Bureau. He then proceeded to rip me a new one. I was told about being professional, and being an officer of the law I should know better, yadda yadda yadda. After the 5 minute lecture, he tells me to slow down and gives me my cards back. I offered my hand as thanks and he snubbed me and walked away. Later that week, a detective who spent 23 years patrolling I-95 with the Philly Highway Patrol, was told the story. I told him I was annoyed the the trooper refused to shake my hand. He said " I would'nt shake your hand either". When I asked why, he said It looks like the trooper could be accepting a bribe. Just think how it would look to a passing motorist. After giving it a second thought, I let it go.

Other Dog, I'm lucky to have been in the trucking business before joining Law Enforcement. I still drive a truck part-time. However since a heart problem 4 years ago,( imagine how surprised I was to find out I had a heart!!) the union keeps me off the big rigs and on the Hollywood movie and film sets that shoot in Philadelphia. I've always beem sympathetic towards truckers and their job after I left trucking. I've NEVER written a trucker a citation for any violation except once for a "Leaking, Sifting, load". And I was ordered to write the ticket by my Sgt. As long as I keep my hand in trucking, you can bet you'll never get a ticket from me. Maybe a long dissertation on safely operating a truck,,, but never a ticket

A few months ago, a Pa. State Trooper was on patrol on I-76 outside of Philly. At about 5:30am, a USF Holland rig blows by doing 65 in a 55. The Trooper pulls said violater over, and when asked why he was going so fast, the driver replied " Because it won't go any faster". That was the best line the Trooper heard all night. The Holland driver got a warning.

Okay, i know you have them, so let's hear them. Cop and Trucker stories. Been stopped by smokey? Ever helped smokey? Did smokey ever help you? Got a funny story? There has to be a million stories out there. Let's hear 'em! But, no cop bashing, Dunkin' Donuts stories and the like. Smokey might be watchin'.

PETE, You are right. KAT bought several black CH's with sleepers in 1990. I know first hand. My company bought 10 of them, used of course, with 400,000 miles on them. Company is phasing out all R models and CH's and going with 2007 Volvo, they have the best warranty for the amount of mileage we do. New motor at 500,000 miles, how can you beat that!? I have a photo of my black CH in my pictures section. But, I still miss my R model. I really did'nt care if the roof was rotted out, I like convertibles,lol

Ice hockey. My 14y/o son plays high school and club ice hockey. Not only is it expensive, but there is a lot of traveling involved. Mid-Atlantic, New England states. Navagation system and DVD system in the mini-van keeps every one happy. The 3,000 mile oil changes come around very fast these days, and with the cost of gas... Barry, Ford Taurus' are indeed sleepers. We have 1999 thru 2004 in the PD, unmarked of course. They go like stink right out of the box. Of course nothing compares to the old Plymouth Gran Fury for a good pursuit. I used to flip the air cleaner lid, just to hear the 4 BBL open up, sucking air.
