  1. A header is called a header in Australia because up until say 30 years ago we only harvested the head

And the seed drill is called a combine because it combines three jobs

    Cultivate

    Seed

    Fertilize

Even in Australia a we call things vastly different names from end of the country to the other

A landing net that is used for fishing is called a didel (pronounced die dill, I  have no idea how it is spelt) in the area I farmed in north Queensland

Yeah I have no idea about that one either

Who knows probably Italian or from that part of the world as there is a lot of Italian descendents on the sugar cane

  2. Is it a combine or a header ?

We call them headers in Australia and a combine I believe is what you lot call a drill

Last years debacle ended up with some quality gear out and about

  3. Maybe between running a really low pressure and removing spring leafs you might get a acceptable ride

Does your back end have shockers on it at all, not all Mack bogie drives do, dunno about single drive, if you were to pull leaves out and you had no shockers it may tend to bounce a lot

    Should be a interesting exercise

I put all brand new parts in that air start system 27 years ago and everyone including the guy that sold me the parts …. Which is still in the business can’t believe how long that tank holds air …. Bob

This is what I need to do to my truck, a bloke I know has a KW brute and pulls tripple road trains thru some of the roughest country in Australia hauling cattle, he keeps right up to date with his air system and he can park over night and the air hasn't dropped at all

Which is quite impressive when I consider all the joins and quick release couplings to get to the back trailer and the age of the truck and trailers, they would all be well over 20 years of age

My truck, 1/2 hour and we have lost plenty of pressure lol

  5. Well you buggered that up, thats for sure

There is good news, you arent the first person to do this, I can speak from experience here

Hopefully the head isnt going to leak, if it does leak you will need to find a new head

Cast iron cant he heated like this, for future reference

Drill the stud out a fare bit, fill the hole with a mig welder and build it up enough to grip onto with vice grips and it will just wind out

I wish I had a better answer but you cant heat big lumps of cast iron like this and expect to get away with it

Not been a smart ass just answering your question

This bearings come unitized they don’t require oil . It’s a Mack unitized hub . I don’t know why they did it like that but that’s what this is .

Oh okay my misunderstanding, so they are sealed bearings then, I best  but out of this as I haven't seen this hub before

Usually it only does it when loaded or mid day thru work day . I work local hauling belly dump I’m thinking it’s because it gets hotter when loaded and the more use . Have any of guys gone thru one of these or changed one . What problems were you having . Just want to make sure it is this . I’m thinking it is because of the what the guy telling me feeling jumó on tire and also wheel Hotter then the other side

To answer your question about changing a wheel bearing, I  have9changed one of this particular wheel bearings myself

That been said I see no reason it would be different to any other wheel bearing

    Jack it up

Block it so it can't fall down and is safe to work on

    Back the brake off

Undo cap on the hub and remove the two big nuts and washers remove wheel and hub as one

Remove bearing bits from hub and axle, including the seal

    Clean everything

    Reassemble in the reverse

When tightening the big nut,  do up tight then back off one and a half flats

Assemble the remainder, fill with oil

    Re adjust brake drive away

Or at least thats how I would tackle it if it was mine

I hope tuts is of some help

This whole project will be "a lot of dicking around". That is OK. I enjoy making things work. Spent the better part of the day figuring out how to install a power steering box using the stock steering column. Unfortunately, the boxes i have access to (6 of them) appear to be unsuitable and the one that looks like it IS suitable is in my bucket truck which I bought for parts (one of those parts being the steering box) and now am thinking of keeping the truck intact (story of my life). A friend of mine has a bus that he bought for the engine. I'll check with him and see if it has air ride. Thanks for the tip. I don;t know that some buses had air ride on the steers.

Most coaches, if not all have full air bag suspension in Australia, I doubt the US is any different

When you pull up to the gutter you just flick (normally marked kneel) a swith and the front end lets the air out to make the step closer to the ground

Gotta remember most buses the driver sits out in front of the front axle

On some of Australias high quality roads it feels like Im in a washing machine 😔 around and around lol

  9. Timothy Maikshilo would be the man to ask when he is on here, he drives in NewZealand and came rrom New England

A crap road is a crap road no matter were you are, those really loooooooooong wheel base prime movers or tractors or what ever you blokes call them would be a issue even in Australia

It would be good to come and compare, just to see how the other half live
