  1. Our logging industry in Minnesota isn't having all those problems, and Minnesota has so many environmentalists that it's practically an ATM for the Sierra Club. Looks to me that your just trying to find something else to blame on democrats, and ignore the market forces that are the real cause of shrinking employment in logging, coal, mining, oil, and agriculture.
  2. For being such lovers of the "free market", you guys seem to have missed the whole reason for the lack of logging... Lack of demand for lumber due to the low number of housing starts and the pulp wood market is being hurt by the switch from paper to electronic communications. The Feds could declare "open season" for loggers, and the saws would still be quiet.
  3. Nice to see the electoral college's president Trump protecting Canadian auto workers from Mexican auto workers (LOL)!
  4. Rowdy, you took the bait, and I wasn't even fishin...
  5. Demagogues of both parties often promise to pass local and state laws that will violate pre-emptive federal laws- For example abortion restrictions or attempts to ban oil trains. I don't support such demagogues, they're cheating the voters by promising things they can't deliver.
  6. Yea, the founding fathers started this whole fed thing off with something called the "Constitution". You got a problem with that?
  7. Rowdy, may as well stop while you're behind, you're just digging yourself a deeper hole. It's well settled law that the feds can set pollution standards for the whole country, and those laws apply even in non contagious states. As for the "sovereign citizen" argument, good luck using that one as a defense!
  8. Trump didn't do crap- GM long ago built Cruzes in Mexico and occasionally sends a few to the U.S. when Lordstown can't meet the demand. Ford is still moving the Focus to Mexico, I suspect they're cancelling the new plant in Mexico in response to dwindling demand for small cars. If anything, adding electrics and hybrids to Flat Rock is Ford thumbing their nose at Trump... Creating more american jobs by building efficient cars and trucks that Trump hates!
  9. 10thers have a hard time with this concept, but just as the feds have legally regulated interstate commerce and truck dimensions, they can legally regulate emmissions.
  10. Careful Rowdy, remember Illinois only gave in to the 80,000 pound gross weight limit when the federal government forced 'em too... That state's rights argument can bite you back!
  11. Keith, you appear to be operating in a fact free environment. Are you even aware of the 3 branches of government, which means that Trump alone cannot shut down the EPA, and that neighboring states and countries could sue Alaska for damaging pollution?
  12. I know this doesn't fit your conservative meme, but the state is partly to blame. Federal law defines "non-attainment areas" and the EPA is just doing what Congress and the President told them to do, designating an area that fails to meet the standards. The actual enforcement is up to the state, and they can choose a variety of remedies- For example, they could require cleaner trucks or coal fired power plants instead.
  13. Wonder what the quality of Brazil's road surfaces is? Those 25.5 metric ton tridems are really going to tear up the roads...
  14. OK, so Volvo is pulling the 16 liter motor out of the U.S. + Canada market due to low sales... Shouldn't they be offering the Cummins 15 liter to fill that gap in their range? Or is this part of Volvo's slow withdrawal from the North American market?
  15. There's a reason why the Titan cab sits so tall- cooling. Run for hours at full power with a headwind or worse yet crosswind and even a 13 liter engine in a low cab truck will overheat. The Titan was designed and built to pull 3 trailers at over 100 tons weight in those conditions.
  16. Don't have to wait, 600+ HP from 13 liters is already available, they're called "short term marine ratings". But for a 50 ton or heavier rig that runs the engine at full power load and near that all day, a 13 liter won't last. That's why if you go to Daimler, Paccar, or International and try to spec a truck for 50+ ton loads with a 13 liter engine, they'll recommend a 15 or 16 liter engine instead. Then there are the loads for which even 600 HP is marginal, like the South Dakota 17 axle double "trains" that can gross 75 to 80 tons...
  17. Staxx, the Volvo cab may be more aerodynamic, but it's wider so probably no advantage. To keep your good weight distribution you need an axle forward, Volvo makes one in the VHD but they're harder to find.
  18. While Volvo is telling us we don't need more than 505 HP in our Macks... Paccar, Navistar, Daimler, and even Volvo in the VNX are still offering up to 600 HP. 505 HP is fine up to 80k GCW, maybe OK at 105.5k, and marginal at 140k in a Canadian Super B train. Got a 160 k or so Michigan 11 axle "train" or an even heavier South Dakota 17 axle doubles at 170k or heavier permit loads... Forget about Mack, and may as well write off Volvo while we're at it!
  19. The depot museum in Duluth, MN has at least one Mack locomotive, they use it to move railcars around the restoration shop.
  20. Volvo is just slowly shrinking Mack so when they finally murder Mack, the body will be easier to bury...
  21. Yup, offer the MP8 and offer a further forward front axle option... Lots of truckers still need an axle forward to meet bridge formula requirements or prevent front axle overloading.
  22. Volvo sabotaged the Titan from the start- limited options, no sleeper, overpriced, etc..
  23. Luke, sounds like your Maxidyne engine may not be running right- It should have enough power to pull the next gear after an upshift, even at 1200 RPM. Perhaps a pervious owner swapped in a conventional torque rise engine or the pump off of one? Keg 1, the Fullers are cheap because there's so many of them laying around.
  24. Why swap a near indestructible Mack for a Fuller that's going to require more shifting?
