  3. Do you have truck parking?
  4. Wonder if American Trucks will be allowed into mexico? not that anyone would want to go there. THis really sticks me bad. With all the job issues we have here and that Idoit in office thinks this is a good idea. Not to mention the killings, drugs,Illegals that we already deal with now this. Some times I just want to pack up and head to Western Central Canada and just get on with things.
  5. and the can of worms were opend regarding Big brother and computer log books .
  6. Have only seen 3 one out near salt lake UT, one in Upstate NY and another in Canada. all were lowboy trucks. very rare still.
  7. Never pulled a side dump but all the end dumps I have pulled just needed a standard PTO set up. If you have 2 hoses it sounds like it is a "2 line" wet kit. you have a feed and a return. this means that the trailer has some sort of bypass valve that lets fluid flow in and back to the tank untill you move a lever and the fluid flows to that ram. this is the same style wet kit that many Lowboy trucks will use. things you need to know before you start looking 1) what trans in your truck. (need to know the gear ratios and mesh) 2) 6 or 8 bolt PTO or both? (some transmissions have 2-3 options for a pto mount) 3)how long will the PTO be in operation (long duty cycles = hi fluid temps) 4) how much fluid does the system need? (how big of a tank will you need) 5) remote mount pump or married unit. (the married units are nice but $$$ and very heavy to have hang off the side of the trans) once you know this you can call a shop and tell them what you have and what you are doing. if they are well know shop they will have the set up options for you. If its a standard set up they will tell you what pto and pump to find then all you have to do is plumb it into the tank and run lines to the deck plate. the contols will likely be air operated off a simple dash vavle. one tip is to put shut off valves on the tank, you will thank yourself the first time you have to replace a hose! I installed my own wet kit. The shop near me is RG smith and equipment in Desplanes IL.they finish alot of dump trucks, garbage trucks etc.... I showed them the pump/PTO had and they told me what fittings and controls I needed. Not a hard thing to set up but it is a little pricy if you buy new. I bought used and it was 1/4 the cost of new!
  8. can be a few things but most common was the govenor needs some adjustments, new weights, springs etc... check the fuel for air also
  9. never had that shaft out of a R cab but I know you can access the back of them thru the glove box or speedo/tach panel. I would be suprised if it was press fit I would think that it has a sleve that the shaft rotates in and the shaft uses the splined nuts back side to keep the shaft from moving in and out of the sleve. ???
  10. Southbound. thats what I like to call a "Rocketman" saw a guy at the dump about 5 years ago with his trailer talgate sitting flat on the ground trailer nose pointed to the sky. tractors tandems up in the air, what a site to see!
  11. I thought the dog is to face inward?
  12. I have made the treck to and from Mexico City - Chiago about 6 times, In a Semi truck. seen alot of the Dina models and Kenmex even a few Remirez. not to many macks tho. did see 2 superliners tho. you would laugh at some of the old Iron they drive. you can see that the truck Mfg like to use diffrent mfg cabs such as IH, auto car, pete, kw, etc... Its changing tho. most of the trucks seen on my last 2 trips (4 years ago) were pretty much new units. Lots of local junk left but the OTR stuff was mostly 10 years or newer.
  13. great news Ernie. If you need a free storage place in the north Chicago berbs or if they guy needs some help while passing thri just let me know. And make sure to get us pics of this bad boy when you get it home!!!!
  14. LOOKS LIKE THEY ARE TESTING OUT A MACK TO SEE THE PRO AND CONS OF THE TRUCK?
  15. Did you buy it Ernie? thats cool that he has 2 of the 3 made. Looks like a newer cab on the V8 truck? .. very intresting!
  16. that 72 looks like a newer cab and wondering if it was also a v12 truck at one time as it has cowl extensions also. From what I recall the v8s fit under the RS700 hoods just fine.
  17. Thanks for that tip Mark. I Would love to get some pics of that truck. very intresting. I see that the front bumper is a little diffrent than some of the other v12 macks I have seen. Bullhusk. you pay the plane ticket out and I will drive it back to Chicago for ya!sure we could find someone to get it to the east coast from there
  18. about 5 years ago there was a Report on what car had the least carbon footprint. It was a Jeep product. they took into account for the people that built it, part sources, mfg plant, transportation of parts, spare parts etc.... the worst carbon footprint went to a electric car because of all its Hi tec gadgets, all the odd parts coming from around the world, and the batterys that were junked every 5 years. But hey at least you will feel like you saved a tree driving one.
  19. I have a friend asking me about some of the Mack RS/RL 700L with the Detroit V12. He pointed out a few things that I have never noticed. First was the side filler panels behind the air cleaners the other was the lack of the cowl vent. Anyone have pics of these thigns up close? hood open to see how they got them in. He is a model builder and is looking for some specific details to reproduce.
  20. Send Stork mack a PM I think His brother made one or had one made for his R model
  21. Most of the state cops seam to Know to move off to the side of the road when doing the ticket writing. What I see is its the local PD who think writing a ticket should merit shutting down a lane or worse parking 1/2 over the white line. I live around 55mph back roads and I dont know how many times I have come up over a hill or around a corner to see a parked squad car dead in the middle of the lane just writing some punk kid a ticket. Those are the ones that are just asking they get hit. IMHO They need pick a safe spot to lite them up. It not only indangers them but the car they stopped. why indanger yourself? I dont move over for those clowns. Id rather take their door off and teach them a quick lesson of rules of the road. However..... it does gripe me when I see there is need to shut down a lane for a crash, spill, tow truck etc... and people are flying past them giving no space at all for them to work. I deal with it when chaing up machines on the low boy. My rule is if they have the common sence to just pull it over the white line I move over a lane. if they are playing macho games taking up 1/4 of the lane. I stay in the lane and just hug left. respect earns respect in my book. And FYI I have plenty of cops friends that see it this way all day long its not just a me vs them issue.every job seams to have clowns running around. even us truckers! Regardless Its always a shame to hear any of these stories.
  22. good to know we still have honest people in the world.
  23. as they say, always something... I have never had to mess with diffrent pitmarms or splines. I must have gotten lucky on my swap! I forgot that you have the V8 is that mount diffrent than the inline engines?
  24. dont know hwere he has been. a few years ago he had all the stories!
