  1. glad to help mark. If you got any questions I can always ask him. If anything the mack museum should be able to help as I think Rob said there were only a few built? Little more to the story with Mr Hall. He had ordered a RW in 1977? (what ever the first year for them was) this was before he saw how nice Bobs truck came out. He then cancled the order because he thought about it again and decided to try for a Westcost mack RS. After much frustration he had to continue the RW order as mack refused to build just one last RS one for him. So he said he ended up with one of the first RW east of the mississippi. He commented that he has that shell calendar at home and that one of the pics you had was the same pic...
  2. Have to ask... did you check the linkage for any binding. I had this issue after I installed a throttle lock and it was causing the pedal to stick right before idle RPM.
  3. Ok I talked to the guy at mack tonight. Guys name is Mr Hall and showed him the pics that Mark and Rob had of the Purple RL700L. He said that that was the truck that he rembers. Mr Hall made a few calls and talked with a old friend that comfirmed It was delivered as a day cab and sent to double eagle for the 36" sleeper install. He does not recall when the sleeper was extended but after I showed him the diffrence he agreed that it was extended at some point. Anyways after the sleeper install it was sent to a shop in north western IL to get the fancy paint(think he said freeport IL?). when Bob put the finishing touches on the RL it made its way into overdrive mag and made it into a Shell Oil calendar. He said the truck had a Cat 169?.....what ever robs truck has... engine, riding on camelback rears on spokes. No air ride cab. Dident ask him about the transmission. Said Bob had the engine worked on by a guy in PA that was able to get about 550HP to the rear wheels. Mr Hall and Bob ran from Chicago to NJ hauling steel and recalls how Bob would let him get a run at the hills and then he would get passed like he was standing still. said after the truck was turned up the smoke between shifts was so heavy that it just fell out the stack to the ground. Bob won englishtown 3 years in a row with it. They would run with a guy in a KW with a KTA called (nickname was rubberband)this guy with the KW had 2 police scanners and radar front and rear. only other truck that compete with the RS. Mr hall said when they all met up he would just fall back knowing that the 2 hot shots were just going to have HP wars all the way to NJ and back. Mr hall just wanted to keep his licence.LOL Said that they put rods and mains in the cat every 100K just to be safe. now the sad part. Bob past away when he was in his early 30s. the truck when to his step son to work on Bobs brothers farm in PA. thats when the engine had trouble and head came off. the Engine rusted and the engine was junk.Cab was rotted out bad as well from the east cost winters. I know 2 guys that have pics of it at a scrap yard and will have to call them for pics. Here is a twist. I showed Mr Hall a pic of this active ebay listing.... http://chicago.ebayc...uck/?ad=1274723 Told me that was Bobs old truck before he bought the Purple RL.... Trent
  4. I'm with bullhusk on this one. Heard and read all the same reports and saw a few pics of the prototype brockway that never entered production. The rw sure looks like it evolved from a brockway if you look at the pics.
  5. Found this link tonight. Looks like a sharp 1972 RL700L air ride 290hp,been in storage for years. http://chicago.ebayclassifieds.com/trucks-vans-suvs/lake-villa/1972-rl700l-mack-truck/?ad=1274723
  6. heated mirrors are nice in foggy rain storms. I had to use them last week coming thru southern IL. also good on winter mornings. I rarely use them but they are nice when they keep fogging up...
  7. Rob, I have seen alot of the larger pyro in The R models. Most of them were in the OTR trucks. I dont know what brand they were but know they were larger than the standard ???? 2 1/8" ???? gauges. Think there is one of the larger ones in one of the junk Kanzker trucks?
  8. Is the new bridge open to trucks yet?
  9. Yea they are basicly a light switch. on or off... idle or full tilt
  10. price is not too bad if it runs.. rare dog...
  11. roadway out here had alot of the detroit 318 R700s you could always here them coming. only thing I did not like was how bare they were. they must have saved a whole $100 by not putting some of the things on the truck. no fuel gauge, no dog on the hood,no jump seat, no dash tach ????
  12. thanks for the pics mark.. Rob, this guy said he has pics of the hood and cab at the scrap yard or leaving the yard???. I will have to see if I can get a copy of them...
  13. Rob dident you say it was scraped or you thought it met the scrap man?.. I dont recall all the dealings but I know we have all talked about it. i will get the salesmans name...see I already forgot his name, LOL Im sure he would not mind chatting about it. when I bought my RS and had it at the dealer He had asked me if my truck was the one he was looking for. thats how we got to talking about it 5 years ago. Who had the pics of it I would like to print them out and give them to him... Thanks Trent
  14. Mark I was at my Local mack dealer today and was talking to one of the salesman. Talked about that Purple RS or RL 700 that was up my way. aparently They sold it and the sales man use to haul steel with the owner of that truck. Said when they stopped for food they would most times eat in his truck as it had AC. he said that the truck was taken to PA by the owners son. The truck may have been sold to a diffrent owner in PA? regardless it had a cat engine and at some point the head was removed to repair. while the head was off water got in the engine and rusted it out. The truck showed up at a junk yard in PA. He has pics of it. cab was all rotted out. Sorry about the bad news. but you and a handfull of other people were chasing that truck. He did say there was a blue western R model that looked very simmilar that is said to still be up my way. I have not seen it tho... Trent
  15. I put a little of convoy and a little of Road Warrior into it. you know best of both worlds....
  16. Yea its tuff keeping her clean. The paint job looks good from far but its far from good.LOL. but being a rock hauler I see little need for it to be a trailer queen. The dash came out good. Need to pit a cb back in and refinish the steering wheel. I'm thinking of fixing the cracks and repainting it white.
  17. looking good larry. I will have to send you some "Bunny" posters for you to hang inside....I was out west last week and spotted a B model with integral sleeper. Was then wondering how your project was going?
  18. Thanks guys. im suprised the pics came out so good.. they came from my new "smart phone". what ever that means???? Well it rained last night and washed all the concrete dust off it. I removed the odd ball steel air tank and then put on a aluminum air tank that Phil from Global truck parts sold me a few weeks back. gave her a little spray wax then took her out to get a little dirty again.
  19. Gave the truck a quick bath and then hit the road. took some pics when I got back. felt good to stretch her legs.
  20. looking good!. whats the plans with it now? Wondering whats it cost to ship it overseas?
  21. think there was a post on here a few weeks back about a guy selling one or it was going to scrap? anyone recall that post?
  22. the canadians still have good taste in trucks. even the old R models had many if the fancy options.
