R Model w/3208?
harrybarbon replied to Jeff M's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
This model Louie with the 3208 Cat was widely used for concrete agitators and rigid tipper/dump trucks. The Cat was good for getting out of wet job sites compared to the V8 petrol powered Fords and Inters. The agi's usually carried 4.3 to 5 cubic meters of premix concrete, depending where they operated, so they would not get caught overloaded. with concrete spilled onto the roadway when they took off at lights or stopped position, meant the barrel was full, especially on a hilly road. Many concrete agi-owner drivers made a lot of money from theses Louie's, particularly those who took good care of their trucks, maintenance and driving style. Some are still in use by small contractors that have a Bobcat and tipper operation. -
Paul, I know exactly as you say, my ex gave me ... . But after the storm the sun shines and my beautiful friend is smitten by my Kermit, I am planning to take her for a ride soon.

Agreed it could be a very nice truck, it has air bag rears and add a Mack E6.

This may be a bit of splitting hairs. Once a person crosses the country boundary of USA or Australia, they are on the land of the country. If they are apprehended after setting foot on USA territory by 20 meters in or after they have traveled 100, 200 miles or more they are nevertheless on the land of the USA or Australia illegally, distance should not be relevant, they are on the land without a legal right to be on the land of USA or Australia. Their status is they are illegal migrants. Moving inland should not alter the fact that they entered the country illegally. Moreover, they intended to enter the land of the USA illegally. We have the same situation with illegals arriving by sea onto our land. They are deemed illegals and they have no rights. Once caught they are put into detention and dealt with under the law as illegals. That is why the Aust govt sends them to various other places, until their application for refugee status is assessed. If they fail to be assessed as refugees, they are returned to their country. My great grandfather and grandfather and their cousins went to USA to work and had planned to bring their families to live permanently in the USA. My grandfather did this twice, 1913 to 1917 and 1926 to 1930. They all arrived into the USA with the required documentation. Unfortunately, world events and economic depression prevented their plans to return to live in the USA. They came with good legal intentions and legal documents. I recall the Elvis movie, it was revealed that Col Tom Parker was an illegal migrant and why he never traveled out of USA. And the authorities knew he was an illegal, but no action was taken.

This 1990 Mack Valueliner V8, Daycab model, was sold at auction this week by Pickles Auctions, final bid was $AUS 378,000 plus the Pickles auction fee of 10% = $AUS 38,000 approx total of $AUS 416,000 / $US 270,000 on today's exchange rate. It has been restored and motor rebuilt. I am not sure if GST (goods and services tax of 10% was applicable, if the buyer has bought through a business the GST is recovered within a few months). Dan Thomas has the same model that some of you have seen at the truck shows.

Pathetic, incompetent and desperate. The court (independent) did not grant him asylum, so he had no right to remain in the USA. Then she quoted the ruling about "RESIDENTS". From Google - A resident can be a foreign national who has obtained a residency visa or other form of permission to live in the country, while a citizen has full rights and responsibilities within that nation. She admitted that he was illegally in USA, fact check - he was not a resident. He should have been deported after he was refused asylum. The comment that the Maryland Senator went to El Salvador (was it paid by the public purse?) yet the Senator has not been to see the family of the Maryland girl killed etc is beyond appalling. If correct, he should be shamed publicly across the USA non stop. These people are oxygen thieves. These people are not acting in the best interests of the USA citizens. What has happened to the moral compass of the politicians, public officials and the legal community?

What happened in Australia was done deliberately by elected representatives, who came from the workers' side of the fence, but they were serving their new o/s masters ... ! not our people. We had world class businesses and industries, gone for ever. And it happened across Europe. In Italy, long established solid well run businesses from around 2005 and thereafter, 1 factory/business closed shop every week, minimum of 100 plus workers out of work and now empty factories lie empty. There are many incomplete factories and warehouses, bare concrete floor slabs, part precast walls erected etc. There is no prospect to complete the buildings and put them to usage. There is no money to demolish the incomplete buildings.

Thanks for the information. I doubt that many people have any real knowledge of what is being produced in China. Many years ago I was offered a position to manage 3 international pineapple broad acre farming, one was in Nanning, China. I declined because my colleague who had the job had kept me informed of the state of affairs in China, it was not pleasant. Zero communications at the farm, this was available in the local village at the party offices. They were flying in risky old Russian aircraft and everything was controlled in minute detail e.g. 1 box of 100 bolts was to air freighted, the box had to opened in our Melbourne office and each bolt countered to ensure there 100 bolts. Every movement of our local managers was closely monitored. The couple from Hawaii who were the onsite farm managers could not socialise with the locals. China has progressed as you have noted and objectively their build local was justified. Except, eventually we have the opposite effect in USA, Australia and Europe. And the cycle will move on. India is the new world economy that I think will far surpass China in all respects. In 2024, two major Indian airlines have placed firm aircraft orders - Air India, a 100% subsidiary of Tata Group, ordered 500 Boeing jets and the another airline ordered 500 Boeing and 500 Airbus. I understand 25 new airports have been built during the last 7 years. Modi and his team are progressing their country.

There is a FUNDAMENTAL BREAK DOWN OF THE INSTITUTIONS THAT WERE ESTABLISHED TO PROTECT THE LAW ABIDING CITIZENS (people who had a proper legal right to live in the country). Our legal system has soundly failed us in Australia, released these criminals and in no time committed serious crimes e.g. rape and assaults. Yet the LA-LA Chardonnay lefties, especially the females have remained quiet. Our society, women especially are in some sort of denial or what else.
-
And that is how China has built a new Chinese passenger jet that looks like a Boeing and Airbus, copy copy copy, it is flying within China, and to North Korea and Russia.

The Europeans seem to conveniently forget that without the might of the USA and its women and men, both at home and in the battlefield, Europe would have been speaking German. Russia was supplied with US equipment etc to battle the Germans. And that happened in WW1, it was then that the English branded the Mack trucks as strong as the British Bulldog. I am grateful for that commitment.

Thanks for posting this. She gave it to him hard (I understand Italian) but he could not care less and that has been happening for many years in Italy. People are in LA-LA land while sipping their Chardonnay wine saying this does not happen. The US media made a big story because Trump raised it. It is time people open their eyes and minds and acknowledge what has and continues to go in our countries.

The ceramic coating does work, heat, air flow temp etc. However, the work quality of the specialist ceramic workshop, the materials they use and following the right process is paramount to achieve the best results. If readers remember the Castrol Oil advertisement , "oils ain't oils". I paid top dollar to have the most reputable ceramic coating company do our turbo and manifold and 10 years later it remains in excellent condition, definitely no rust anywhere. And this company is still in business and excellent reviews.

Old Fruehauf flat top trailers are scarce to buy here in Australia. I was looking for a while to find a good one. I drive about 400 miles to inspect another similar Fruehauf 40 foot tri-axle, which was beat up, had 3 non OEM axles and owner was asking a ridiculus over the top price. Then 2 days later, by luck, I found this 1984 Fruehauf trailer. The vendor, an owner driver, bought it when it 12 months old from the first owner and in excellent condition. He was very protective, he watched and supervised every fork driver to prevent them hitting and damaging the side combing. The trailer is totally original, solid, some minor rust, it was good Australian steel back in 1984, it has a sliding tri-axle. The axles and hubs are original. There are no dints, it is straight, has the original camber, the original timber floor is rotten because he left it outside and uncovered. It has been sitting for 18 years because he was planning to restore his trailer, but time and age has won out. The side gates are original, he never used them because he carted bricks interstate and timber packs return loads. The gates have remained tied with 1 rope to the back hurdle since the day he bought the trailer in 1985. I plan to restore it and fit a steel checker plate floor. I have thought about replacing the timber floor, but practically and cost wise finding and placing quality durable timber flooring is not worthwhile. Plus, I plan to use it for casual work, so if it is a polished timber floor, working it would damage the timber floor. The owner also gave me the trailer's original canvas cap tarp, which he stored and never used it. Does anyone recall if Fruehauf USA and Canada fit the same side combing as on my trailer?

KS, you posted a comment last week thereabouts about the approx $4 trillion in stock contracts, which requires your clarification. Please clarify your comment. Was the market full of short contracts that required the stock market to drop or rise, if not then the contract holders would cop a massive loss. Is this market drop impacting those futures contracts?

The chromed steer rims have been okay, I have not heard of any steer rims breaking, however, I have heard chromed steel rims on dual trailer wheels that have cracked, especially in the summer heat. Maybe because those chromed rims were Chinese made and chromed. The chrome has generally been ok. Chromed alloy Budds are available in Australia and seem to survive. I think it depends on applications and how the rims are maintained.

1953 Mack LJ
harrybarbon replied to reb87's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
The C model radiator sides are steel U channel which is very similar to the LJ, those frames are only to support the top alloy radiator tank. The C model bottom section was separated and hinged to allow the guard to swing out. There was a lot of common parts used in the 50' and 60's.
