  1. Thanks mate, yeah I thought that the 2 suspension points would cause some issues - wasn't sure if there was a way to make it work. Shame given I have just got the cab sitting perfectly but I think this has to be done now as part of the rebuild. I will no doubt regret it if I don't at least have a go at this now. Can't wait to see the R700 on Brisbane streets. I know what you mean about progressing slowly. I can't believe how long I have had our R Model off the road - very hard to devote much time to it but am on the home straight now - it is actually starting to look like a truck again rather than a pile of parts!!
  2. Do you think it would work ok if I ran rails with frame from front cab mount to back of sleeper with a couple of shocks and and a standard air bag at the back while leaving the standard shocks and air bag on the cab also? Would be similar to your set up other than it would work around existing cab suspension and have a second set at rear. I would still put a couple of bolts through rear cab bar into rails so it all works together. Not sure if having 2 points of suspension may cause issues when setting the air bags. Sleeper is 44". How is the R700 coming along?
  3. That looks awesome. You should make them for sale. I would be your first customer. Would be at your door with money in hand immediately!!
  4. That is roughly how we did it when we customised the cab height, which now is the same as an Australian Superliner II. Our mechanics used railway sleepers and bottle jacks. Just painful to do it again as I have just finished linking everything back up - not to mention that you can't even look at the gloss black paint without putting a mark on it!! I was thinking of maybe running the rails more toward the outside edge so it bypasses the existing shock and airbag setup. Have to go out to truck today so will assess that idea. Just working from memory at the moment.
  5. Has anyone had success installing a sleeper on rails to an air ride R Model cab? I have seen that forum member Murranji is doing one but I really don't want to pull the R Model cab off again to mount the rail. Is there a way to mount some rails while leaving the cab mounted in the normal way? I have just spent considerable time repositioning my cab to a custom height and have had a walkthrough cutout done to suit a CH sleeper. Both cab and sleeper are painted and the next step was to mount the sleeper in a fixed position and attach rubber sock to the air ride cab. Have had delays with installers and now I am thinking I would prefer to have the sleeper attached to the cab instead of the chassis (with a couple of air bags at the rear of sleeper). The cab is sitting about 4 inches higher than standard so I have plenty of room underneath. Has anyone done this without pulling the cab off to mount it on a rail? Finally got everything in place and I don't want to go through that again - particularly given that cab is freshly painted. Any tips or photos?
  6. Thanks mate, this is really helpful - I'll have to go have a look at it to know for sure
  7. No, not really but all good. Thanks for taking the time to check it out
  8. Thanks mate, seems there is hope that it is not a T2000 series. Not to say there is anything wrong with them - I have spoken to many people that really like them. It's just that my T2090 has given me grief so I have been put off by it and want to try another Maxitorque before giving up and going back to Eatons. Cheers
  9. Some of you have alreay helped with my queries that started in a thread on a 12 speed. To recap - I am looking for a Maxitorque to go behind an EM6. I have come across a 10 speed from an '83 R Model but there is no model number stamped on it. I have a T2090 and it has a very clear stamp so my thoughts are that it may not be a T2100. The number below is stamped on it. Any ideas? Any one have a TRDL1070 with these numbers on it? 284KB519OB OR perhaps 284K8519OB Hard to tell whether the 5th character is a "B" or an "8" Thanks
  10. OK, owner found a number and it means nothing to me - see below. The first "B" could possibly be an "8" - hard to tell from photo. Anyone have any idea? Might have to start a new thread since I am off track from where this started. 284KB519OB
  11. Ok, thanks - sounds like it may be worth going to have a look. Not sure how I am going to identify it as it apparently doesn't have any model numbers (that the owner can see).
  12. Thanks mate, do you know if they were using them in '83 or would a 10 speed in an '83 likely be a T2100 (assuming it hasn't been changed)?
  13. Awesome hobby Vlad. Are there many old Macks in Russia?
  14. Thanks all - just to throw another question out there, is there a 10 speed version of this box without the bottom end? I have come across a 10 speed available and assumed it was a T2100 but owner can't see a model number on it. All he knows is that it was a 10 speed. It was taken from an early 80s R Model. Is there a chance it could be something other than a T2100 (which I don't really want)? My T2090 is very clearly stamped with a model number so I assume a T2100 would be the same. I can't go out to see it until next week but just trying to work out what it could be. Any ideas?
  15. I agree, it is a sad trend. Most truck fleets here are slowly being taken over by automatic and synchro vehicles. I am of the firm belief that you shouldn't drive a heavy vehicle unless you can drive a traditional transmission but that is quickly becoming a minority held view. The truck that I am thinking about the 12 speed for is more of a project truck, but it will also be a back up (at least for a while). I might give the 12 speed a try and hope for the best. Hardly have to change gear in this old R Model anyway so maybe that will save it!!
  16. Thanks guys, when you say it is like a 10 speed, do you mean a single "H" with a split on each gear or is it 2 sets of "H" with a low/high selector? Also, will I be cutting another hole in my R Model floor for the second stick or is it a matter of enlarging the existing hole? Sorry if these are stupid questions but I have been raised on Eatons!!
  17. I have never tried one of these but have heard good things. I have come across a 2 stick version and it would be good to hear some opinions on this box. Also, a few questions: Does anybody know the top gear ratio or was there more than one version? All I know so far is that it was matched to a 285 Coolpower from new. I am waiting for the model number. Is the later single stick 12 speed based on this box and, if not, is it worth waiting to find a later series single stick? How difficult would you rate this box to use as compared to a T2090/T2100. This truck is not in use every day but a driver may need to get behind the wheel now and then. Of course an Eaton would be more driver friendly but this truck was always "all Mack" and I would like to preserve that if I can find a decent box. Not to go on too much aboout it, but this is our first Mack and I don't ever want another T2090. We have bought an Eaton 18 speed for this truck but am looking for a convincing reason to go back to a Maxitorque. As always, any advice/opnions would be greatly appreciated.

  19. Thanks guys, that is good to know. Makes sense as this thing will let you lug right down and will pick up again. It was fitted from new with a T2090, but my understanding is that 5 and 6 speeds where not really used much in Australia at that time (if at all). Someone from my side of the world may want to jump in and correct me but I have only seen older models with 5/6 speeds here. The T2090 has been a source of grief so I bought an Eaton 18 Speed for this truck. However, I would prefer to go all Mack again so am looking for a 12 speed. The only ones I can find are the early 2 stick versions, which I am of 2 minds about. Will probably post a thread for a transmission opinion next.
  20. Hi, trying to clear up what the “M” stands for in an “EM” series engine. I have an “EM6” in a 1985 R Model. It is the original engine from the factory (truck assembled in Brisbane, Australia). I have been told that it may be a Maxidyne but I can’t find anything official to support that theory. It’s our first Mack so I can only compare it to other brands but the engine is unbelievable for its age and relatively low HP (it's an EM300). I thought I would be re-powering for something with more HP but am now keen to keep it and would like to understand exactly what it is. Can anyone educate me on this? Thanks
  21. Vlad, thank you for this - the attachments have been really helpful. I think you are right in that they are probably the same beast with different ratios. I might give it a miss as I don't want to re-live the T2090 experience. Need to find a 12 speed, but it is hard to get your hands on one in Australia. They rarely come for sale and are sold in no time.
