  1. Wish I could get a load going there Joe-tell the boss to check out Blue Ridge Lumber in Moneta,Va. for some treated lumber...or is it Blue Ridge Wood? It's Blue Ridge something-or-other anyway. Guess I should pay more attention-i've hauled about 8,000 loads out of there, mostly to 84 Lumber around Oh. and Pa.
  2. ...sounds kinda like my Ranger-it's got a 5 speed, but if it had a 2 speed rear it'd be way more fun to drive
  3. the part between the swimming and truck shows is my favorite!
  4. I can see the swift truck passing us on the shoulder now...

    Stir Crazy

Sat home again today.Called Jeff this morning and he told me to stay by the phone,he'd call me back as soon as he found out something about the truck. That was the last I heard from him. I called the shop about 4:00 and Neal said Jeff had already gone home. The truck IS supposed to be ready tomorrow though. I even took Jo out to the Chinese buffet in Altavista because I was driving her crazy, and that's a short trip for her. The orange stuff on a stick was pretty good. Actually everything was good, even if I couldn't identify most of it.
  9. I just bought an ELP cd last week, and this tour picture was inside, taken sometime in the '70s i'd guess. Looks like some F-models,some Fords,a Peterbilt, and ? Truck's still in the shop, and as you might have guessed,i'm at home with little to do.
  10. no wonder you're the "forum guru"-I've never seen anyone who knew so much about so many things. At least now I know who to ask for advice when I start building the spaceship in the back yard!
  11. yeah, finally! down to 79 in here now. Had 2 fans in the windows today, blowing the hot air from outside in here. I've gotten soft I guess, our ancestors didn't even have a fan,and they dealt with it. I remember when I was hauling chips with no AC in the truck, left arm would be twice as dark as my right one from having it out the window all the time. You could only sleep late at night when it was really hot,and i'd always get off of 64 at the old exit 10 and go a little ways up north mountain on rt. 60 and pull off at a big wide spot by a creek under some big oak trees so i'd be in the shade longer in the morning. The F-model Macks had the best vents ever-you could put a kool-cushion in the seat and open the vent in front and open the one in the ceiling facing towards the rear and stay pretty cool-as long as you were moving.
  12. yup, that was it-I hope! the man came this evening and it was a little low in freon, but not much he said. He also tightened up the fittings outside where the lines connect to the heat pump-they were a little loose too,he said,so I hope that takes care of the problem. Thanks for all the help guys!
  13. Thank you,I've been approved and signed on the dotted line, and looked at the pictures I do keep a can or two of spam in the truck,in case I get snowbounded or something-hope they don't find out and kick me out. At least i've already looked at the pictures!
  14. well, Scott the friendly AC repairman just left. He said the freon was a little low,and he tightened the fittings outside that were pretty loose he said, and charged it with freon. I even signed a service agreement where they come out twice a year and clean, check, and service the heat and AC, once in the fall and again in the spring. Sounded pretty cheap to me at $130. Anyway,it's down to 88 degrees in here now,it was 93 inside a little while ago and 97 outside. I don't think I remember it ever being this hot this early in the year. Still no word on the truck's status.
  15. That's in answer to the question "how's it going?" I'm sitting here waiting for the air conditioner guy-after calling about 4 different places,I finally found one in Altavista that said they'd be here sometime today, but I have no idea when. Called Jeff too. He said the parts for the truck should be in today,so I won't be going anywhere today. Not only was the head gasket blown, they're putting a camshaft in it too because that had a lobe wiped off. He sounded very disgruntled,as there's no warranty on it. Been trying to find a cheap car,the engine in the '94 Taurus that my son was driving gave out,but I don't think there's any such thing as a cheap car anymore. At least i'm not in jail and nobody's shooting at me to my knowledge-always a bright side.
  16. absolutely! when i do shut if off and let it defrost it cools really well, until it freezes again. where's the possibly clogged 'vapperator located if anywhere? wonder why it freezes right up to that fitting and no further? I called the AC man already, but he hasn't called back-supposed to be 97 today too,so he might be "covered up".
  17. thanks
  18. uh...good question-this is the first home i've lived in that didn't have just window units. The heat pump (I guess?) is outside and the other thing (blower, filter, and the thing that keeps freezing) is in a space in here with a metal door on it. It is r-22. It is 84 dgrees outside,89 inside!
  19. oh...it's my home AC. Better call the AC man in the morning.
  20. This is certainly a non truck-related trouble- Anybody know anything about air conditioners? Mine keeps freezing! It'll work good for a while, then it'll get hot in here and I looked and the AC was completely iced over. Turn it off for a while, the ice melts off, turn it back on-same thing It's Sunday so I can't call the friendly experts down at the -where ever the friendly air conditioner experts work,if there is such a thing. Would be the hottest day of the year so far too! It was working fine 'til today.
  21. how do you get to the photo section? I only saw one picture,a green G-model
  22. I have a 2002 Ranger, good little truck. I used to complain because it doesn't have enough power to get out of it's own way,it'a 4 cyl. with a 5 speed-but it gets about 29 mpg,so i'm not complaining anymore.
  23. Got that WOT yesterday with the Procter Co. stories and pictures. Both excellent

I've seen more people hauling scrap lately,on every kind of thing, than I ever have. I can picture it now-a F-350 with two john deere tractors setting on top of a '68 Biscayne on top of a combine on top of two New Idea manure spreaders, topped off with a couple of Lawn Boy mowers...
  25. Yeah, when I left the truck at Cat Friday I was prepared to tell them "we know there's nothing wrong with it,but Jeff wants to put a water pump on it anyway" but the mechanic came out and talked to me after I dropped the trailer and said he was gonna check for a blown head gasket. The "know it all ,probably college educated but never drove a truck in his life" sevice manager kept saying everything was fine. He's the same one who turned the engine up from a 475 to a 550 and said it was right, and there's absolutely no difference in it...none.
