I spoke with Shirley Sponholtz on the phone recently, and she is A very nice person. You might be thinking,"so...who the heck is Shirley Sponholtz?" Well, she's the editor of "Old Time Trucks" magazine. I called to order some back issues my mixer was in,and she answered the phone! And she talked to me like A regular person,so I guess she's A regular person. When the back issues came, they were the wrong issue, but I just kept them and re-ordered the issues I wanted by mail.Yes,I paid for them!.They sent the wrong issue again,so I sent an E-mail telling them it was wrong, and she called me,but I wasn't home,so they called me today to get everything straightened out,and we did. Most people wouldn't bother to call twice if you had A problem,or once for that matter, but it really impresses me that people like Shirley,Barry,William Weatherstone-all trucking people-will go out of their way to help you with A problem, and treat you like an equal ...well,I'm just happy to know people like that. I've never met Paul VanScott,Bulldog Man,or Freighttrain,or anybody else but I like them all,and kind've feel like I know them...know what I mean? All good truckin' people. I'm just A Mr. Nobody, but A great antique truck magazine is called "Old Time Trucks"-give Shirley A call @513-573-3513,maybe she'll answer the phone.

I'm just mad...and angry...irate... and hurt-I don't know what to do. Really nothing I can do. Jobyna just popped me upside the head, then threw the phone book at me after I told her if she wanted to leave I'd help her pack, and haul her stuff...where ever,as long as it was away from here. Not the Brookneal phone book either, she went with the much, much larger Lynchburg book, complete with the yellow pages. I told her she was lucky she's a woman,or she'd be dead right now,cuz i'd have killed her ass.
This dog here has been here longer than I have. I remember the first time I saw him, standing on the front porch looking in the door grinning-he had an over bite or something, and he always looked like he was grinning. He was as big as a shetland pony and there wasn't a mean bone in his body. He was just a big overgrown puppy, loved to play. His tail was about 4 feet long,we always called him "big tail". When ever i'd come home he'd meet me in the driveway like Dino meeting Fred Flintstone. He chased cars, but he was very selective about which ones he chased. He'd be laying in the back yard sound asleep, but when he heard a particular vehicle he'd jump up and run to the road and chase it. Most he paid no attention to. He never bothered anybody or anything. We fed him,and I wormed him several times, because you could count every rib he had at first, but afterwards he was fine and healthy.
He was a happy dog, living a dog's life. Then the a-hole family moved in next door, with the whiny little brat-the one Jobyna sprayed "Off" on before, and he ran home crying like she'd sprayed him with high test gasoline and handed him a lit sparkler. She called me Tuesday crying when I was on the way from Birmingham to Pittsburgh and told me the dog had jumped up on the little bast-oh,might not oughta say that here, little...uh...kid next door, and his fat a$$ bitc...uh,oops-er,momma called the animal control officer to come get him. Never mind that they'd been playing with him when he jumped up on him, throwing toys to him,and he'd bring them back.
Animal control (the dog catcher) came and put a noose around his neck ,threw him in the back of the truck and hauled him off. She said if nobody claimed him in 5 days,he'd be euthanized. Killed-put to death-for doing nothing!
I wish I could go rescue him,but like my momma said, if I went and claimed him the next time he jumped on the little bast-sorry,I meant whiny ass little brat, they'd just sue me. I have less than an acre of land,no fence, and he's never been tied,so he'd probably go crazy or strangle himself if I tried to tie him. I'm glad I wasn't here when they took him away. I've been known to act first and think later-like the time I threw that big mug of beer, mug and all,on that softball team in the Red Lobster in Lynchburg. But that's another story.
Ive asked everyone I could think of if they wanted a dog-nobody did. He's a good dog-I liked it better when he was on the front porch barking at sun up wanting breakfast than since the sorry a$$ good for nothing deadbeat neighbors moved in...needless to say, they're not on our Christmas card list. I hope they're eaten by bears...just kiddin'
On second thought,Old Bill told me to always be honest-I really do hope they're eaten by bears. I thought a lot of that old dog.
Then I found out today that Rick Wright passed away Monday, the 15th. from cancer. Hope somebody has some good news...
    Big Tail update-good news-
    http://www.humanecampbell.org/animals/detail?AnimalID=910519
I called animal control before I left Monday to see about rescuing Big Tail and they told me to contact the humane society. I called them and I talked to a very nice man there, totally unlike the dogcatcher who picked him up, and seemed to enjoy her job way too much-she's the one who told Jobyna the dog would be euthanized in 5 days, which was totally false.
The guy I talked to at the humane society told me they had to hold him for 5 days before they could do anything, to give the owner time to claim him. If he wasn't claimed in that time then he became the property of the county, and would be put up for adoption. He said they only euthanized animals that were considered mean or dangerous and "that's a very friendly dog". I said "I know". I wish I could get him back myself, but i'd better not. I am gonna make a donation to the humane society though, and perhaps pay for his shots and other boarding fees that have to be paid before he can be adopted, that way he might be adopted quicker. If no one takes him i'm gonna get him and sneak him down to the shop so he can be a junkyard dog. He always told me he wanted to live in upstate New York though.

So, where was I? Oh, last week I went to Petersburg to load a 60' load going to Masury,Oh, but just as I was pulling off the scales I got a call from headquarters telling me not to load it because they didn't want it in Masury until the end of the week. I ended up taking a load to Piedmont,S.C. instead, then loaded a load of 60' re-bar in Darlington for Fredericksburg,Va. Had a flat on the way back with that load, had to call road service to bring me a steer tire. Then I went to Petersburg and loaded a 60' load for Masury,Oh. All on my 48' trailer. I like my trailer. Not as good as the old Ravens I used to pull though- cain't beat a Ravens. Everybody hates going to Masury, because you have to tarp the steel beams that are stored outside, and everyone who works there is an a-hole, from the people in the office to the guys on the floor. Just hateful for no apparent reason.
But I survived and loaded at Brookfield for Roanoke. I unloaded there Monday and then went to Dillwyn and loaded for Fremont, Oh. Haven't been there for a long time, it's one of my favorite runs. Then I went back to Masury and loaded coils for Roanoke. Then to Petersburg and Wilmington,N.C. Then empty back to Lynchburg and picked up a Duluth,Ga. From there I went to Birmingham and picked up skidded coils ( good thing-I left my coil racks in the tool box on my trailer in Lynchburg) to unload in LaCrosse, Va. Monday. I ran over 3,000 miles from Monday 'til Friday.
Then I made some of the best chili ever today, even cooked some pasketti noodles and served it Cincinnati style-very delicious. And of course I took a roll of film to Wal-Mart, only to find they don't do 1 hour phtos any more! Had to go to CVS, but I got 'em.

I picked everything that was left in the garden yesterday, lots of peppers and a few green tomatoes. They said it might frost last night, and it's 30 degrees here this morning.
Old Bill, the Diesel Gypsy, sent me a picture of a jack-o-lantern, and Jobyna had to have one just like it.
I must be off to LaCrosse now.

I talked to Old Bill, the Diesel Gypsy, this morning on Skype so I feel a little better about not being in Winchester. The case of beer I bought didn't hurt either. Then I went over to Altavista to mail him the last "Ice Road Truckers" tape-I put the " Trick My Truck" B-model episode on it too. Also had a few extra copies of "Wheels of Time" and ''Old Time Trucks" to send, and it cost $14 and some change to mail it. And that was the cheapest way to mail it. The faster 'express mail' was 40-some dollars,so I told the guy at the post office to strap it on the mule's back and send it on it's way. Maybe it'll be there before Christmas! Then I stopped by Food Lion to pick up a few things, and almost kept it under $100-total came to $100.04. By the way,do any of you guys have Skype? Or as Paul Van Scott once said "It would be good to know if anyone's reading this"

Since I was here last i've unloaded the lumber in Moneta, been to Petersburg and got a load of beams and delivered them in Garden City,Ga, and picked up another load of lumber in Estill,S.C. Got 8' 6x6s this time, but I didn't have any trouble with it sliding. This and the pipe to Weaverville from last week should give me a pretty good week for the first time in a long time. And if I go out tomorrow I should have 2 loads on next week's check. It's about time to make a pickup payment, the electric bill's laying here, and gotta pay my real estate taxes-there's never a shortage of something to pay.

It's been an exciting weekend around here -i've raked leaves, flattened some cans and bagged them-not all Anheuser-Busch products by the way, I think I saw a Pepsi can in there-and cut some grass, piled leaves in the garden and ran the tiller through it, and made a squirrel feeder. The apples, pears, and peaches are gone and I wouldn't want them to go hungry. Besides, if work doesn't pick up I might eat the squirrels.
I went to Fremont last Sunday and after I got unloaded Monday morning I went to Brookfield and picked up a Roanoke load and unloaded in Roanoke Monday night. Then I was off Tuesday, no loads . Went to Richmond Wednesday morning and loaded some structural steel going to Columbia, S.C. Unloaded there Thursday morning, then went over to Nucor steel in Darlington and picked up some flatbar and channel going to Madison Heights, Va. After I got that off Friday morning, I went to the shop...then I went home-no loads.
My computer still only works half a$$ too -hey, kinda like me! Everything that worked off a usb port seemed to be malfunctioning, first the webcam, then the scanner/printer. I was afraid to try my digital camera because I figured it would fail to operate properly too, but it did work, and I took a few new pictures to illustrate the exciting events described in this blog entry
I had the truck here last week, and told otherdog to keep an eye on it...the second picture is 9 hours later and he hadn't moved-still keeping an eye on it! He's a good dog. There's an armadillo by the bush, but he paid no attention to it because I just told him to watch the truck.
I cooked a "chicken on a can" Friday. I usually use the old wood/charcoal powered gas stove behind the shed, but I decided to try the anti-freeze grill this time. The oven is much better, and faster, probably because of the insulation around the oven. It makes a delicious chicken though, just coat a whole chicken with "the rub", drink part of a can of of beer, put more rub in the beer left in the can, stick the chicken on the can and put it on the grill, or the smoker oven 'til it's done.
Too bad the leaves don't just blow next door! They have none, I have many.
This is my squirrel feeder, loaded with corn. Stolen from the cornfield by the road at that bridge job in N.C. I posted pictures of a while back by the way. The spot where there's no leaves is where the pickup was parked.

Just a few pictures I took on the last Florida trip-load of sheets I took down, red & black Mack dump parked in front of N.B. Handy in Boca Raton, N.B.Handy trailer, a nocluejoe unloader machine with rubber tracks, the load of lumber I brought back, and an old GMC dump truck trying to hide a b-model Mack on rt.301 in South Caolina.

well sh...oot! sometimes it doesn't pay to try to save a couple of bucks. I got my power steering hose made,$34.00 and went to put it on. First thing I did though was to take the air line off that I put on yesterday and put some thread tape on the fittings. It only took a few minutes,it was easy to get to. The power steering hose was much more difficult ,but I got that on and started the truck and turned the wheel back and forth then refilled the reservoir and was good to go,until I pushed the brake button in and heard the air leaking. The old line just had a small pinhole in it,and there was one on the shelf at the shop with the right fittings,it was just longer,so I put that on. They don't use that type air line at all anymore, the rubber hose type. And it's no good,it was leaking around the swivel part of the fitting, not around the threads. I saw similar airlines at the parts store hanging on the wall, and should have gotten one,but they're closed now. Now i've gotta get one and get it on by Saturday morning.

Slacking off a little on the old blog here. Except for sitting for 10 hours Monday waiting to get unloaded in Roxana, Il. I had a pretty good week. I was supposed to pick up a load in Jackson, Tn. and deliver it in Pounding Mill, Va. at 12:30 Tuesday, but it took so long to get unloaded there was no way I could make it. Earliest appointment I could get Wednesday was for 1:30, so then I had time to kill. I could have gotten there about 5:30 or 6:00 Monday, but I stopped at the Davy Crocket truckstop in Tennessee. When I unloaded in Pounding Mill I reloaded at the same place going to Chattanooga, then loaded in Chattanooga for Lynchburg. Then to the yard and loaded up for Roxana again to deliver Monday.
got a couple of pictures here-thought I saw nocluejoe driving the buggy truck in Knoxville, but it wasn't him. It was a cabover Pete buggy truck....
speaking of cabover Petes, saw this unit for sale in Montvale, Va. Don't see this setup in the east much. I thought about winning the lottery, buying this truck, and moving out west and be a hay hauler. Or move next door to Rob just to annoy him.
pretty neat picture of the PC screen-nice background picture,eh? (that's Canadian)

Made the Fremont turn, and brought coils back to Roanoke again to the frame rail plant. After I got unloaded I loaded some rails and took them to Rustburg,to the school bus place. Now I've got to go load some 51' beams in Petersburg at 10 am tomorrow going to...gee,I forgot. But it's in the Pittsburgh area,on rt.28 just north of the turnpike.Had some leftover turkey and sweet potato pie for supper, still delicious.Had turkey sandwiches for lunch this week that I took with me. Now i'm just waiting for a tape i'm copying from a DVD for Big Jim to finish, and i'm gonna turn in.I gave Big Jim a BMT calendar, and he said he was going to keep the mixer picture and frame it when the calendar's out dated.I told him i'd be glad to print one for him so he could keep the calendar intact,so I did. I'm very proud to have the picture of it on the calendar.

I took those two coils to Suffolk Monday morning, but didn't get a load out until Tuesday. I could have loaded in Petersburg Monday, but the load was going to South Plainfield, New Jersey so I whined and cried my way out of it. Had to spend the night in Petersburg though. Then I ended up going to Moneta and loading treated lumber anyway. That went to Mercer, Pa. and I loaded at Masury, Oh. for Roanoke. Then Thursday I loaded more treated lumber going to Alliance and Kent, Ohio. Picked up a big single coil, 45,000 pounder, at Ohio Steel Slitters in Canton going back to Suffolk, Va. for tomorrow. My son Morgan and his girlfriend came over yesterday so I grilled some hotwings and a hamburger or six-very good! My cabbage plants are really growing too. Was gonna plant some onion sets, but I gotta let the garden dry out some. I'm afraid they'd rot before they start growing if I put 'em in the ground now. I did put some tomato and pepper seeds in a plant bed though. Even got a plan for the rabbits this year-chicken wire. So maybe i'll have some corn and beans this year too.

When I was coming from Macedonia Thursday night headed to Roanoke, running with " BB Brain",somebody started yelling on the radio when we were coming down Sandstone mountain on I-64,east of Beckley. Turns out it was a Swift driver, but it could have been any number of the company drivers you see nowadays. He said "get off your brakes, you're going to burn your brakes up,have to go in the runaway ramp, and never be able to get another job with another company".Then something like "get off your brakes,I smell brakes-you're gonna die in a fiery crash.I see your brake lights, just use your jake brake,or you'll die in a fiery crash, and never be able to get a job with another company-you should kick your trainers a**!- my trainer didn't teach me like that!". And this went on for a while and I was just listening-the Swift and the other truck,I don't remember the name,it was a something-or-other express, were both in front of me,and the other truck driver never answered the Swift driver,so I finally did. As I said,I was behind them, and I never smelled hot brakes.Smelling brakes doesn't really mean anything except your brakes are working-i've had to get on the brakes hard at a red light and could smell brakes when I got stopped. Now,if you can't see the truck for the smoke, and it looks like a burning brush pile coming down the mountain, that's a different story. Maybe the other truck didn't have a jake.Maybe he did and it wasn't working.Maybe he liked his job and didn't want to drive for a different company anyway, but I can see why a Swift driver might assume everybody else does, because he drives for Swift. Jake brakes sure are nice, but I remember when nobody had a jake-you might see one once in a while, but they certainly were not a common item like they are today. Many times I've loaded over 50,000 lbs. of coils at Armco Steel (now AK Steel) in Middletown,Ohio and ran rt. 60 from Charleston,W.V.over to Sam Black Church in an F-model Mack with no engine brake,no power steering, and an AM radio that didn't work-I-64 wasn't even finished,it ended at Sam Black Church.Rt. 60 was the only way you could go,unless you ran the W.V.Turnpike to Princeton, then 460 over to Christiansburg, and picked up I-81. The steel usually went to Harrisonburg or Buena Vista, and that was too far out of the way to go through Princeton,so going across "Hawk's Nest" was no big deal-I still go across there occasionally, just for the adventure. It's very steep, and crooked as a dog's hind leg. So,back to the Swift truck,I finally told him "I guess if you didn't have your jake brake and power steering, and GPS,satellite communication with dispatch, cell phone, and color TV,you'd just park it at the top of the mountain quit, and walk home, since you don't have any brakes except your jake brake".He said "oh no,I could drive this truck without a jake brake-or power steering". I kind of doubt that he could,if he had to run the old road, but it's all he's ever known, having all the modern equipment. That last curve at the bottom of the mountain going into Rainelle would probably be the end of him, like it's been for many others.

I went to the DMV office in Altavista this morning before I went to work to get the title for the mixer changed. It kind 've started out like a typical Monday morning. I had to find a notary public first,to get my official DMV antique license application form notarized. I stopped at the first bank I saw,but they wouldn't do it because I didn't have an account there. So I went down to the Altavista town offices, got it notarized, then went to the DMV office. I had to get it changed because my wife's name was on the title too,and she passed away 2 and 1/2 years ago. The first thing the woman at DMV wanted to know was if I had a copy of the death certificate...well,..no- your records indicated that one of the owners was deceased, that's why I have to change the name on the title. O.K, I'll just look it up...yep,that's what it says-take a number and have a seat until we call you. A few minutes later they called me to the counter and a man looked at the paperwork and said " I can't do this-it's got to be a supervisor.Have a seat again". So I sat back down and the guy went in the back somewhere and came back a few minutes later with a woman, the supervisor. I explained my situation, showed her the letter and paperwork, gave her the old title, and she said that's $10 for the title change. I said " but what about the one-time $50 fee the letter says I have to pay again?". She said "you don't have to pay that, you just get the name on the title changed and keep your old tags, and you're all set". Great! Here's your ten dollars,i'll see 'ya! So it only cost me $10 when I was expecting to have to pay 50 more,so it turned out to be a pretty good day after all,and having to go to the DMV for anything is usually not good. If I had mailed it in I would have sent the $50 for new antique plates, because the letter they sent me said that's what I had to do,and they would have sent me new plates and never told me I didn't need new ones so they could get that $50 i'm sure. Then I went on to Lynchburg and unloaded the coils I dropped Friday night and went to the shop and fueled, and got the rest of the day off. Gotta go to Richmond tomorrow and load some air compressors going to a power plant in Oak Harbor,Oh.

I started raking these knee deep leaves yesterday-perhaps I should have started sooner, like a month ago.Reminds me of West Virginia's snow removal policy. I was forced to stop when the torrential downpour started...when 12 or 13 drops of rain hit me I retreated back inside. So today I tried it again and broke the handle on the rake, but I repaired it with a plastic oar handle from an old inflatable raft I used to have and half a roll of electrical tape. Got them piled up anyway,in several different piles. Now all I gotta do is get them transferred from the yard into the woods, maybe next weekend. Can't do too much in one day, it'd ruin my reputation as a world class slacker.

Hauled a couple of loads this week. I unloaded in Lynchburg Monday morning and went to Moneta and got a load of lumber going to Conneaut Lake, Pa. Then down to Pittsburgh to load steel to Lynchburg. Then got a load of lumber off the yard going to Oberlin and Norwalk, Ohio. Back to Pittsburgh-back to Lynchburg. (yawn...)
I did see a gray Mack dump in Pittsburgh-had a "for sale" sign in the window. I actually saw another Mack for sale on rt. 51, but I didn't get a picture. I don't know what model it was, but it was a fairly new looking cabover with a set back axle and a van body. Weather's getting warmer now, so you see some nice looking new cars on dealer's lots .
And I got a little better view of the B-model dump with the chrome radiator shell in Pa. And this old shovel must still work, i'm pretty sure it's been moved since the last time I was by there. I think this is where they park blimps in Akron, Ohio. This building used to be in the Guiness book of world records as the largest ...largest ...I don't know what you call it, but it's all open space on the inside, with no columns holding it up in the middle of it. And some old units on rt. 14 in Ohio.
And how 'bout that cabbage, eh? This was when I put the anti-rabbit fence up a couple of weeks ago, and now.

Here's a picture of the Mack frame rail trailer at Metalsa in Roanoke, where we deliver coils to regularly.I've been running the disc defragmenter ever since about 11 am,and I might try another longer video if it ever finishes. It might work, since it downloaded this picture twice...stupid computers
  18. other dog
Well,I was gonna try another video, but the PC is still defragmenting. I think something's wrong-it said it could take from a few minutes to a few hours, but it ran all yesterday afternoon and all night so it should be done by now! I might call old Bill back. I thought my Norton 360 did it automatically,it's set to,but Bill said Norton was nothing but trouble, and there are better free programs available when the Norton expires. It was preloaded on my computer when I bought it. My skype and eyeball chat were both working slow yesterday, with about a 20 second delay,so he called on the phone and helped me with this defragmenting process. Found out it was last done in September. I might just need to shut down and restart, but I don't want to undo anything i've already done,so i'd better ask somebody that knows what's going on.

Not much good to report. Been at home since Tuesday, but just got a load going to Orchard Park, N.Y.
And how about the ticks this year? More around here than i've ever seen. Can't get Diazanon any more, but I tried some other kind of poison and it doesn't seem to have any affect.
But everything i've planted so far came up, and the garden is growing like crazy. I put a second picture of the garden, taken from the back porch, because it's raining again-first was taken Friday, second Sunday morning. The beans have nearly doubled in size!
Now not only do we have lots of ticks, I have to worry about creatures like this when I go outside! I think it's a non-poisonous garter snake, but i'm of the opinion the only good snake is a dead one. The dog was barking at it about 4' from the garden, under the rose bush where Jo was cutting flowers yesterday. I applied the shovel to it's head.

Crap!..This week STILL ain't going too good so far- I went to the doctor today and he told me to come back tomorrow (again!) so he could look at it and change the bandage (again!). Only tomorrow i've got to see him in Lynchburg. The doctor couldn't believe the amount of stuff that was still in there. He said "I think we've about got it!.. no, wait- spoke too soon." He said maybe tomorrow I would be good to go with just a band-aid. Same thing he said yesterday. And the day before...and the day before. Meanwhile, no income, and i'm getting crankier all the time. Had to pass up a load going to Fremont, Ohio today. I try to tell myself it's best to do what he says and not risk having even bigger problems with it, or having it get infected or something, but this is getting old fast. I feel fine, but he's had to work on it every day this week. Good thing I can't get to it, or I might monkey up
And how about David Carradine (Kung-Fu)? Just saw where he had hanged himself in a motel room. So many people in the world struggling to live...and he kills himself.

Got back to work this week, after having no paycheck last week. Shoulda got AFLAC I guess. I went to Metals USA in Ambridge, Pa. Monday with a 60' load of beams then loaded almost 49,000 lbs. of angle and channel in North Jackson, Oh. going to Petersburg, Va. Reloaded another 60' load of beams going to Oneal Steel in Ambridge, Pa. to deliver Friday morning, then brought a load of firebrick back from Alliance, Ohio to deliver in Madison Heights tomorrow. Should all be pretty good paying loads.
Picked the first produce out of the garden today. Cut a head of cabbage to make cole slaw-delicious on that venison barbecue I made yesterday!
    took some pictures this week-
this is what I saw walking in the front yard when I got up Saturday morning-Jo in a robe, her Snoopy pajamas, and wearing my steel toed work boots.

Took the truck to Cat Monday, then they fixed the broken hood hinge at the shop. I left Tuesday and went to Baltimore again, loaded at Sparrows Point back to Lynchburg, then took a load of kyanite to Orchard Park in a Conestoga. That was bad-I knew a Conestoga meant i'd be loading at AK Steel in Butler.
Made a trip and a half before the engine light came back on, showing an intake valve actuator fault code...again. Back to the Cat place tomorrow.
    got some pictures-
a clean truck with a Conestoga
a big man standing along I-90 in New York waving at folks
downtown Butler, Pa. That hill way up ahead is as steep, or maybe steeper, than it looks-low side for sure. Would've took one a little closer, but three scantily clad babes were walking down the street just over the hill from the stoplight there, so I was momentarily distracted.
    I must be off...

Took my vacation a couple of weeks ago and just hung out. NoClueJoe came to visit and we had a good time...I think- haven't heard much from him since. We took the mixer for a little drive and went back to P.L. Duncan Trucking to see his old trucks. I can't say enough what a nice guy Mr. Duncan is, he talked and showed us trucks and told us their story. He knows where every one of them came from, what running gear they have, and everything else about them. He took us in the pickup to see the ones across the road in the power line.
Friday we stayed home and cooked ribs on the grill and Saturday we went to Lincolnton, N.C. to the ATHS truck show.
I was going back to work Monday but didn't get out until Tuesday or Wednesday because the truck was still in the Cat shop. They ended up replacing the wires or maybe put a new wiring harness on it. The engine light hasn't been on since anyway, and it's been running fine.
I went to Baltimore and loaded at Sparrows point back to Lynchburg, then from Lynchburg to Birmingham and loaded in Birmingham for Virginia Beach.
Came back through Petersburg and loaded another Baltimore, did the Sparrows Point deal back to Lynchburg, and back to Petersburg to load 60' piling going to Cleveland- on a 48' trailer. Snuck in after dark so nobody would see the overhang. I unloaded at a job site by the train tracks Wednesday morning then I had to pick up a three stop load that I couldn't load until after 1 o'clock, so I hung around and watched trains go by until about 12:30.
Got to Majestic Steel at 1:00 and left at 6:00. Had stops in Greensboro, Durham, and South Boston, Va. Got them all off Thursday then headed up rt. 501 to Gladys. Yesterday I went to Petersburg and loaded a load for Neville Island, Pa. It would have been slightly over gross so I had to take my tarps off the truck and go back across the scales for another empty weight- lightened me up 240 lbs. Left there grossing over 79,000 without the tarps on the truck and less than half full of fuel. Last time I was a little over the guy at the scales let me go load anyway, then let me lift up on the door while the truck was sitting on the scales. The woman in there yesterday is strictly by the book- a company man all the way.

Monday evening, still at home.Been on the phone with the insurance company about the shingles the wind blew off the roof yesterday. My policy is $500 deductible-I think I can fix it myself.
Truck's still in the shop-I've been whining-complaining I mean,I've been complaining to Jeff that the truck just did not pull like it should. When Cat turned it up from a 475 to a 550 it still ran the same. We wanted to get it by Ashland,Va. and put it on the dyno but just couldn't seem to be in the area at the right time.So today we took it to Carter Cat in Lynchburg so they could check the fuel pressure anyway. The pressure was fine, but one of the turbos was missing some fins, and some kind of adjusting screw under the valve covers was missing,so that might be what took out the missing fins.I new something was wrong because it started making that sound in the turbo, like when a hose is bad,and I had about 5 lbs. less boost than I used to. But the turbo trouble isn't altogether the cause of the low power because it had no power before the turbo ever started making the noise. The missing screw could have something to do with it though.I talked to Jeff on the phone and he didn't know what the screw was for, just that they said it was missing. They're gonna have to put a turbo on it,but it should be ready tomorrow sometime.
