  1. I had a good size shed I built at the old house, complete with a "cook shed" on one end of it where I kept my grill and smoker oven. Had a freezer plus all my tools and equipment in the shed, now it's all stuffed in this little metal shed out back, so full I can't get in it, and can't find anything because something's on top of it,no matter what i'm looking for. Wish I could find a picture of the old cook shed to scan, but alas , my scanner still won't work. It was nice though, used it in all kinds of weather.
  2. i'm sure it is, I think they still had the jersey walls up last time I was through there. Probably been a couple of months since I went to Orchard Park. This is the truck I drive.
  3. ...and still nothing-no snappy comeback. Totally unlike Rob, now i'm worried about his well being.
  4. I very seldom run the Ohio pike, I run rt. 20 from Fremont to Norwalk all the time. When I started driving in '79 it cost $21 to run the Pa. pike from Breezewood to Ohio with 50,155 lbs. on the trailer, that was class 7 I think. I have no idea what it would cost now. Now I run I-64 to 60 to 20 to 39 to 19 to I-79 and north, or if i'm coming out of Petersburg or farther east I go across 68 to 79.
  5. ...and after I got back from sunny Florida, I went to Masury,Ohio. From palm trees to snow covered highways.
  6. mine has done that sometimes- I usually wiggle it around, or twist it in, and it stops. I call it "the brake button".
  7. looks like I might be off next week too. Not because of vacation, because of nothing to do.
  8. ask Rob, he knows-oh,wait-you are Rob...uh...nevermind. my bad
  9. no, but if I had i've heard diesel fuel will kill 'em...oh, you mean crossing the road...never mind
  10. Just a few pictures I took on the last Florida trip-load of sheets I took down, red & black Mack dump parked in front of N.B. Handy in Boca Raton, N.B.Handy trailer, a nocluejoe unloader machine with rubber tracks, the load of lumber I brought back, and an old GMC dump truck trying to hide a b-model Mack on rt.301 in South Caolina.
  11. well i drove my b63 home today was a trip allright brake pod started leaking lost all the air backed the brakes off and kept going two tires were flat and wouldnt hold air so she shook all the way couldnt go over 50 mph but she want to go faster had to keep backing off the trottle filled her with water and after i got going it started to leak out the overflow all over the windshield had the hood off so i could keep an eye on things so with all the water on the windows i couldnt see had no power steering because i had no air pressure but she ran good and shifted good even with the out of round tires she was smooth riding but its a long frame rail truck i also lost the batteries on the way even though they were straped down but it was fun let me no what you think you're right, that was a helluva ride, but at least you got it home
  12. I have a set of books called "The Trucking Pioneers", sort of a history of early trucking companies. Some are still around today and some are not, for various reasons. I've been meaning to go through all 8 volumes and find the companies that were put out of business -directly or indirectly-because of unions, because I noticed there were a lot. I finally got started today because I had nothing else to do, I was by myself and it's pouring rain. I've found an even dozen so far, Hennis, Mason-Dixon, Pilot, Ringsby, Spector, Cooper-Jarrett, Eazor, Hemingway, Garford Trucking corp,Interstate Motor Lines, Michigan Express, and TIME-DC. ...and I only went through the first two volumes- got six more to go.
  13. you're so right-that's why I didn't say it
  14. I want to say "I need lots of things-get over it" so bad I can hardy stand it!..but i'm not gonna
  15. I finally left Tuesday and bobtailed to Florida to pick up a trailer at the St. Lucie nuclear power plant and bring it back to Lynchburg. Got there at 3:30 Wednesday evening but couldn't leave until Thursday morning. Had to wait for the paperwork, then they wanted it back in Lynchburg at 8:00 AM Friday The most interesting thing I saw was a crab crossing the highway just before I got there. I've seen lots of things, but that was a first. Now i'm loaded with sheets from N.B.Handy going to Boca Raton, Florida.
  16. The jake brake is one of the geatest things they ever put on a truck engine in my opinion, I run the mountains of Va, W.V, and western Pa. all the time. Did for years without a jake. I don't have anything against straight pipes, but I think that's probably why so many towns won't even let you use the jake, because of straight pipes. I've never put a straight pipe on a truck that had a jake brake.
  17. The ony reason I don't have a muffler on the mixer is because I couldn't find one anywhere around-"we can order one for 'ya, be in in a couple of weeks". So I just went with a 5" chrome stack. It's very loud, but I don't drive it too far too often. When I was younger I put a straight pipe on the f-model 300 I drove and it wasn't loud at all. Most people around here just ran straight pipes on Macks when the muffler gave out. I put one on the f-model with the 350 cummins in it too and that was a different story-very loud! But the worst (loudest) had to be the Transtar with a VT903 Cummins and straight pipe-I couldn't run one load of chips to Covington in it. I drove it once when my truck was in the shop for something. Same truck-'74 Transtars w/VT903s, except my regular unit had a muffler. I thought it sounded awesome at first, but that got old quick, and by the time I got back I had a pounding headache. I told 'em i'd wait on my truck, I cain't drive this muh#*%@ here!
  18. oh, I got it, thanks again. I put the rubber on first, hold the glass against it and drive it in with the hammer...sounds easy enough
  19. I pass thru Bradford periodically on the way to Orchard Park.
