  1. Luke, Maryland- hauled pulpwood there many times. There's a bad hill on rt. 135 coming into Luke, because it's pretty much straight- no 20 mile an hour turns to slow down for, and folks would tend to go too fast. Then they'd get to the bottom and there was a 90 degree turn, or slam into the side of the mountain. There was lots of pictures of truck crashes that happened there in the scale house at Westvaco. You had to go past 135 to get to the scales, then past it again and make a right into the paper mill. The scale man warned us every time "whatever you do, do not turn on 135!" -Looks like a lot more crosses since you were there Billy. I never went that way, I always said that after I got unloaded at the paper mill I was going to go up that hill just to check it out, but I never did. Greendash said he's been down it a few times.
  2. I took some pipes up on some mountain near Westernport, Md. I had to wait on the other two trucks to get unloaded because we were all going to Galv-Tech in Pittsburgh to load, and they had never been there before. We were way less than a mile away from where we turned onto rt. 36 from rt. 135 when we got to the job site, but we had to go about 15 miles around the mountain to get there because there was no way to get there through Westernport. I was in third gear I think, in the low side getting up one of the hills getting in there.
  3. ...and that fire is STILL burning, just what did he put on that brush pile to get that fire going?..been raining for two days now! Cabover KW on 501 Monday. Saw a nice looking Falcon on I-81 in Harrisonburg the other day. Saw a couple of big Mack trucks in Orange, Va. ...and, I saw a girl on the side of the road indicating to me that she would show me her boobage if I blew the horn, but I didn't have time.
  4. They are?
  5. So, in other words, there's absolutely nothing you can't do with vegemite...nothing.
  6. Saw these today on the Lynchburg paper archives page- I love looking at this old stuff. http://www.newsadvance.com/news/local/from-the-archives-roads-and-highways/collection_cccdb0f4-dd86-11e6-8a52-b7b47d1f5324.html Wow, who realized that there are over 18,000 BMT members now?!! Not me. What if everybody sent Superdog ten dollars? If they wanted to of course, I know just saying this pisses some people off, i've said it before and felt the wrath of a few, but look at the potential strength in numbers. This was pretty neat, an old International headed west on U.S. 460- this is where the 4 lane ended between Lynchburg and Appomattox. Looks like it's just west of Thomas Terrace. And this dozer in Lynchburg- the caption- which I could not copy for some reason- said it went too far over the bank and was stuck. Isn't that a Euclid dozer? ...and my favorite picture, this Diamond T rolling coal- ...and this picture is from 1962 I think- they were making rt. 460 4 lanes from Lynchburg to Appomattox. This picture was taken from about where F.L.Moore and Sons is today, looking to the west. Today's google earth image from rt. 460 just east of the shop, looking to the west- the driveway into F.L.M. is up there where that pole is, where the turning lane ends.
  7. Ah-hah!..that didn't take too long- here's a picture of the engine- I have a picture of everything somewhere, but that's a problem in itself. I'd guess I have 5,000 or more pictures saved on this computer, and sometimes it takes a long time to find the one i'm looking for. ...and I have one of the interior-
  8. That would be a great place for it, the museum that is. I hope it doesn't end up rusting away somewhere or being scrapped, that would be a real shame.
  9. I've seen it several times at the truck shows, Corbitts were the featured truck at the Greensboro show, which they moved to Colfax, N.C. These were taken at the Greensboro ATHS show, when they used to have it at the NAPA warehouse. The ol' battle axe- I mean Jobyna- is standing in front of it, and she's 5'1". I took these from pictures in a 2005 photo album, back before I had a digital camera, or even knew what one was.
  10. It's a good looking truck, from the road anyway, no rust or "bents" that I could see.
  11. That's exactly what happened, on Donner Pass. It was rumored that this is mowerman, but that has not been confirmed.
  12. Well, i'm just kind of plodding along like i've always done- just here, trying to maintain a low profile- but it sure is good to see you back on here Rob!
  13. Yes, I've decided that I should sell the mixer truck. I'm putting it here first, i'll take $5,000 - and that's not etched in stone- from any BMT member. I'd really like to see it in the Keystone Tractor Museum, but they've shown no interest in it. I'll probably ask $6500 for it, the price when I bought it, but i'll let it go for 5 to BMT members that have been here a year or more- just so nobody joins tomorrow to get a good deal. I have nowhere to store it inside, and that's where it needs to be. It needs some TLC, and I don't have the time, and no where to even park it at home. The clear coat is peeling in spots, and I just hate to see it sitting there, when I know it wants to be ran. It's in great shape mechanically as far as I know, always ran great, transmission- 18 speed quadruplex- works great, it stops great too. I hate to do it, I love this truck, but somebody else can take better care of it than I can. I took this picture of it yesterday-
  14. So, I was thinking that since I could not run away and join the circus I would run for president of the US in 2020- now you're telling me that that's not going to happen either?.. another bummer!
  15. Danbury, Connecticut From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia "Danbury" redirects here. For other uses, see Danbury (disambiguation). 16. All my life i've been thinking of running away and joining the circus...now it can never happen...bummer!
  17. You're right about that! This was a 45 minute inspection, but if we hadn't been talking and BS-ing so much it wouldn't have been near as long. He didn't want to be out there working on Saturday morning any more than I did. And he seemed to have a full knowledge and understanding about what it's like to be a truck driver. And he could not and never has lived in the city, grew up on a family farm, just like I did- he even lives in the middle of nowhere, just like I do- super nice guy, just like i'm is.
  18. The fire ain't doing a whole lot of burning, but it's still smoking- I took this about 15 minutes ago! Wonder what they're clearing that spot for?..maybe they are fixin' to move in- it's getting kind of crowded around here now. The houses on either side of me are both empty right now, but some people we know are trying to buy the one through the woods here, and the other one is for sale too.
  19. From snowy Gladys to sunny south Florida. I called a dignitary when I was in Florida, one known as Hatcity. I was at the power plant near Port St. Lucie, which is right near Stuart, which is right near where Hatcity's top secret headquarters are located...I think. Got it pointed back to the north now... I even saw a girl in a car when I was sitting at a red light. Then I saw something I didn't want to see- on Saturday morning! but it was all good- the DOT officer was actually a really nice guy. When I got to the yard yesterday morning I saw the new truck inspector inspecting a new International. She asked me if i'd help her inspect the interior, since nobody else was around. I told her "hell no, have you lost your mind?..i'm going home."
  20. I saw pteradactlys in Chesapeake. ...and a cabover Pete. I saw a dog on the way to Florida. I know he was going to Florida because I saw him down there later. I saw lots of birds in Florida too. lots of birds- More dogs- ...and an ocean.
  21. I've seen some stuff- a man unloaded a bulldozer across the road last week and started clearing some land where they cut that wood last year....or was it the year before last?..anyhow, he piled up some brush and lit the pile on fire before he left that evening. It was still burning several days later, even after all that snow we had. I couldn't get out until Tuesday, you could hardly stand up in the road out here. I unloaded a van load of snow on the way to Lynchburg. Then I couldn't get in the driveway where I was going to load because of ice. I made a right into this driveway and the truck needed to be right on that ice spot. I got backed out into the street and started to turn around and make a left into the driveway, but decided not to because if I started sliding going that way i'd be going down hill and probably wouldn't stop until I was in the creek down there somewhere. So I just made a wider turn at a higher rate of speed on my second attempt and made it in, after I locked the power divider. Those two Autocars are still sitting in South Boston ...and the single axle R model is still for sale on 501. I saw a big Mack truck in Ivor.
