  1. More good pictures, Thanks.

The Freightliner is very similar to our '96 model.

I like that truck with the mid-roof bunk and longer hood.

Jim ordered the truck new, specifically for heavy work, and it only has 300,000

original miles, so we keep it. It's like an old shoe for him.

Cat 3406E w/ an 18 spd. deep reduction Fuller and two speed rears, 48k axles on air.

Heavy frame specs and heavy front axle, and an auxiliary steerable lift axle.

It was designed to pull 300,000 lbs. and still be comfortable on the highway with

    lighter loads.

If I could figure how to get film photos into the computer, I could send some pics

    of different loads.

I didn't like the looks of the mid roofs at first, but after I got that one I liked it.Drove a Freightliner classic before that, and the mid roof was just tall enough to stand up in,with lots of space to put stuff. This one had a 435 cat,but Larry had it turned up to a 475 for me,10 speed rockwell,3.90 rears. Some of those girders weighed 90,000+ lbs.
  2. yes, cars and babes pictures are always good. By the way,Jeff's early paint job didn't look bad, green with pink fenders...just a thought...you could even make you a concrete elephant to haul around. His was real of course, but elephants are getting harder to find all the time nowadays it seems.

  3. After reading the story about you leaving the owner's son in a rest stop -

I understand why you might feel like your job is on thin ice.

I'll retract my statement about Thursday posts as being in

the nature of good, clean fun.

I might have tried it, but I never inhaled.

    PVS

hmmmm...where've I heard that one before?

yeah, they were mad for a while because we went back and got him,but they got over it.

  4. This sage green I'm thinking of is not bright at all.

And I think it would look good with dark green or black

    fenders.

I would also paint the interior in the sage green if I used it.

When Jaime Samuell did his blue B-85, he did the interior in the same blue,

and used black fenders. It's a real sharp truck.

    But - I'm still thinking.

Is that like Mack green? Mack's used to come in 3 colors, red, green, and blue, all with green interiors. Green was the popular color around here,I thought that was the only color they came in for years.

  5. It wasn't funny siting at a rest stop

for half an hour but it is a funny story now.

besides they made it up to me

with a trip to hooters later that night.

    only thing that realy

bothered me about that trip was the hydrulic

    steering on the dollies :Mixer1:

I liked the hydraulic dollies best-they were so much easier to run and pull, because you didn't have to fool with chaining the front end up then dropping it every time you had to use it,just run back there and pull the rope and you're ready to go. Get it back straight, cut it off, back in the truck and we're off-no pulling up on the blocks and all that .I liked to drive the dolly for Woodstock,I even get along with him. But,as I say,if you can't get along with me...

That's still the only time i've been to Hooters, that was in York,Pa. I think the food was good, but I really don't remember much about the food. Everything looked good though :D

I f you want a project to work on,have at it. The head on that truck was done, new valve job. And it has a new voltage regulator on it...however,it's been sitting in the woods for 30+ years now. But i'll be glad to help you with it as much as I can. Hard as I run though,I barely have time to do anything.

  6. Good lord that's a loooong load. Funny about jeffrey reminds me of old bill's story. oh yeah i would probably have that cherolet at my house if I was you, could be a nice little brother for the mixer.

It was long, but a pretty easy run. We only had to drive the dolly getting out of the old Carolina Steel plant in Abingdon then again when we got to the jobsite. The rest of the way was all interstate and we would pull the steer axle of the dolly up on 2 big blocks and chain it to the beam so it was up off the ground.

My daddy and my grandfather put a body on that truck for the owner when I was a wee lad-that's going back a ways. He later took the truck as partial payment for some work because I wanted it-the owner had parked it by then. It would barely run,but I drove that truck home. I was intending to fix it,because I thought it was such a neat looking old truck, but you know how it goes when you're 17 or 18 years old. Daddy had the head done,it had several burnt valves,so that's why it wouldn't half run, and I put a new voltage regulator on it, but I soon lost interest in it because something else came along. Back then-about '75 or '76 I guess- it would have been pretty easy to restore, but it's pretty far gone now. Somebody even shot all the glass out of it with a BB gun.

When I left Jeffrey it was kind of funny. Even jeff and Teresa thought so. But Bonnie ( at H.H.Moores) was not amused at all, especially by what I said about him catching a ride. She acted like it was my fault and I left him on purpose. She had NO sense of humor, NONE.

  7.

    Heh, heh

If you're looking for dirt -

Go back and look at the dates of Tom's posts - he usually posts here on Thursdays -

early in the afternoon from home.

    What's up with that?

Paul!!! what the?...you're the last one I would have expected to do me like that :o

...as George Thorogood says "everybody funny-now you funny too!" ("One bourbon, one scotch, and one beer")

  8. The forecast for Monday here, is 30 degrees and rain mixed with snow. Trees are blooming, the grass is getting green, song birds are making a fuss, and from one day to the next I still don't know how to get dressed.
I'd better prepare for everything when I go to Kentucky then.Got my sleeping bag,t-shirt,parka,and short pants.
  9. Hey Joe...I see Paul has no comment on Bob the Builder. I was waiting for that response...I think he's ignoring it on purpose to aggravate me-or maybe he didn't find it funny, but we know better, right? We're the funniest things here...aren't we? gee,I used to think I was funny...

  10. That sounds like a perfect place you're at now with everything you need close by,and plenty of space-outdoor space I mean,to park stuff/works in progress. If you build a new shop will you have to move everything or will you still be at the same site in a new building?

By the way,If you don't have a truck you can take a picture of and want to use another one that doesn't belong to you for your avatar I could send you one of me...

  11. The Fishers police have been warned to keep on the lookout for unknown flat-beds.

    Known national homeland security risks.

    And - I wasn't home this week.

Took an invitation to see how the other half lives. Went to Augusta, Ga. to

watch the golf Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Pretty nice trip.

Have a good weekend. (There really isn't any Fishers police)

    Paul VS

Then who took the money I sent to the Fishers police chief,in care of the Fishers Feed Store,to look the other way when I was doing the building inspection?!!...guess i'm just out of $12.75
  12. Hey Paul, sounds like you got it going your way. One little thing,if you're thinking of building your own building you might check with Van Scott Builders-they're somewhere in your area, and from everything i've ever heard they'd be some fine people to deal with and would probably treat you right.

    Just a thought... Tom

I've tried dealing with those guys - they're tough!

Well, they say it's all in who you know-maybe I can put in a good word for you.Or here's another possibility.

  13. I like that old Ford!

    Paul VS

I had seen that truck before and tried to get a picture, but right when I got there another truck passed me and blocked my view,so the last time I went by there I slowed down so everybody could pass and took the picture out of the window and it came out pretty good. When I take "drive by" pictures I just hold the ol' 35mm up to the window and press the button, sometimes I get what i'm shooting for, sometimes I don't,but after I saw it that first time I was prepared the next time.
  14. Glad to hear you got the Peterbilt sold. I wish I could find a shop to rent closeby. My 30 by 30 garage might be enough room for some, but between my 69 chevy and everything else in the free world stuffed in there I'm cramped for space. I told amber if I ever got the money I would build a shop big enough for a class 8 truck. Anyway, I hope everything works out nice for your cab and good luck
    I have a 24 x 24 space for rent,soon as I clean out a spot...that's inches by the way,not feets.

  16. Good pics. otherdog. I like that old ford. Not much excitement sounds like my new job, but you get to travel "lucky dog"!!! Well I gotta go get ready for work, I'll talk to ya tomorrow.

let me know your schedule,I was gonna call you,but I didn't know if you were working. Got the last 2 "Cannonball" episodes taped, putting other stuff with it to finish out the tape-you should like it.

  17. Those guys don't seem to be too phased by the Easter Bunny!!In fact, they are looking pretty relaxed.Paul VS
...or maybe they're thinking that great big rabbit would be very tasty in a pot with some carrots and onions, like Elmer Fudd with Bugs Bunny.

lol..we thought they would freak out, but they done fine. Parker left the easter bunny a big smelly surprise in his diaper though while this picture was being taken.
