Still moving. We got the grill yesterday- by ourselves. It took some ingenuity, but I got it loaded. My son came over today to help unload it. Only big thing we've got left is the picnic table, which I was tempted to just leave, but since it came from my grandmother's I guess I'll move it.

It was a good one! My favorite episode was when Peggy and Bobby discovered how good food cooked on a charcoal grill was. Hank was all about a gas grill of course, he worked for Strickland Propane. So Peggy and Bobby would load a grill and a bag of charcoal in the car and get some hamburgers and drive for miles out to the middle of nowhere. Then they would grill their hamburgers, so Hank wouldn't know they were cooking with charcoal.

That's what I always said. We all know why unions started, companies could take advantage of the workers any way they wanted with hours, pay, and everything else so unions were needed. But somewhere along the way the balance turned in the worker's favor, and they just expected more and more pay and more and more benefits for doing less and less work. That greed put a lot of trucking companies right out of business.

It's truly a different world. I remember when my parents built a new house in 1964. It cost $8,000 and they financed it for 20 years. I was 8 years old in 1964 and I remember thinking "20 years?..we'll be paying on this forever". But back then most people didn't even bring home $100 a week. The first brand new car we got was a 1971 4 door Impala, with a 400 small block in it. It was just over $4000, which was an expensive car for the time. Most cars then were in the $3,000 range. I went to the dentist this morning, he looked at my teeths, everything was good, $129. Stopped at Kroger on the way home to get some honey because Zina wanted me to try a new recipe for the cowboy candy that calls for a cup of honey and the honey bear was $8.49, and that was the cheapest. I started to leave the bear in there and stick with the old recipe but I brought it on home. 🤣

When we bought the Nissan it had about a quarter of a tank in it, maybe a little less. Zina said " are y'all going to fill it up with gas for us"? And the salesman said "I can't fill it up, but I'll put some gas in it for you. Meet me down at Sheetz". So I drove it down to Sheetz and he put $26.01 worth of gas in it. I don't think that even brought it up to half full, but still nice of him I thought. On the other hand, I once picked up a brand new K100 at Truck Enterprises in Roanoke. I said "this truck doesn't have any fuel in it"! They said "it's enough to get you to Appomattox". And it almost was, I ran out in Lynchburg. I hated Truck Enterprises in Roanoke.

Friend of mine paid $68,000 for a new F150. It's a hybrid, and he does not like it.

Yes it is crazy. They had a used Ram pickup over at the Honda dealer that was $13,000 more than the Nissan, and it had more miles on it. It was a pretty truck, black, but when I asked "how much is that Dodge over yonder?" I didn't even need to walk over and look at it. I think it was Joey Moore's fault that we got that truck. When the starter stuck on the Ford he came and picked us up in his 4 door GMC Denali. Zina rode in the back, that's when she said "you know, we really need a 4 door truck". She'd been saying we needed a bigger vehicle for a while, but we were thinking a bigger SUV. I asked her "have you seen the price tag on a truck lately?". They allowed her $24,000 for the CR-V, and they already have it listed for sale for $29,987, which is almost what she paid for it. When she bought it in Florida last year the sticker in the window had 31 or $32,000 on it. A friend told me to ask $5,000 for the Ford. I thought it was a little high, but maybe it's not. I paid 1800, but of course I've done a lot of work on it too. It has a new starter on it. 🤣

We were actually thinking about a small utility trailer. I googled them yesterday as a matter of fact, and just like everything else they cost about twice as much as I expected.

I just got back from Gladys in it. It runs like a top, just smooth as a sewing machine, and starts immediately too. But we just don't need it.

It's not a ratty old rust bucket anymore, since it's for sale it's a "fine classic Ford".

I cooked some Friday ribs. Thursday I cooked some fish and fried green tomatoes. They were most delicious.

I know the feeling.

Yeah, they sold it in 16 oz. cans over at the store in Gladys- cheapest beer in the store. If you're going to Colfax this fall I'll bring you some.

The photo cutting program that I used to use has expired, I'll renew it again whenever we get good internet here. Firefly is supposed to be coming, "this summer" is what they told us. My son said "when you see a big black cable rolled up and hanging from a power pole, it won't be long then". There's been a big roll of cable hanging from a power pole since we've been here, but no high speed internet yet. We have something from T Mobile now I think 🤔, or maybe it's US Cellular, so Zina can work, but we only get so much data, so I'm afraid to get on my PC much.

Overnite was never a union company either, they always voted against unionizing. And two good friends of mine that I've known since my teens worked for Overnite. One is the one who drove the B model to Roanoke, the other is his first cousin. I've seen where people called them a scab company on Facebook pages before, not for crossing anybody's picket line but because they were never a union company to start with. And I've never heard anybody that ever worked for Overnite have anything but good to say about them because Mr. Cochrane took care of his people, they didn't need to go union.

Yeah, that museum has been on my bucket list for a while now.

Is that the one that's in the Transportation Museum in Roanoke? A friend of mine drove it up there from Richmond if it is. He worked for Overnite for a long time, mostly in the shop. He was the only one that could even drive the B model, so he took it to Roanoke.

JT formula, he's the car guy on here, had the GMC General, said the average retail was $12,250. My car guy here who was going to sell it for me said he was going to put $10,900 on it, and JT said that would be a good price. We were going to put the money towards the Nissan, but we still put 20 down and they gave her 24 for the CR-V, so we did ok. I know I'll take a beating on the F150 but there's no reason to keep it and keep paying for insurance and taxes on it.
