  1. $ 127.9 a litre down under in OZ you think you got it bad?
  2. Hi 37blackwood. Yes you shouldn't have a problem fitting an air to air in the Flintstone. There was lots of em over here in OZ. Just get air cleaner bracket & aircleaner. Don't forget to get the stiffener plate for behind the aircleaner bracket. You prob get one out of an old cab at the wreckers. you need it to stop the aircleaner cracking the cab. As for running the 300 without the aftercooler Don't work i'm afraid too mutch fuel the pyro will go off the guage sorta melt the turbo. If you got a 1200 ft/lbs gearbox not a problem Regards Mark
  3. Re air filter. Hotrod the filter in the pic would be usless as it would get clogged up fast with the fumes circulating round the engine bay. As for the hot air, a turbo is only a compressor anyway. the average air temp out of a turbo is around 250 degrees or there abouts. Even with a intercooler you only get the air temp down to 180 degrees or there abouts. The C motor had a oil bath air cleaner anyway. Mark
  4. Re wet or dry. I use Graphite Molybdenum grease . Superseeds oil. Only My opinion though. Mc OZ.
  5. Re cyl head Bolts. Lightly lubricate with 30 grade oil. November 1984. I only go on the w/s manual, There could well be an update for the later engines.
  6. HI From OZ. Re head bolts. First tighten to 50 ft Lbs. Repeat sequence to 125 ft Lbs, Last to 200 Ft lbs. After run in Retouqe to 220 ft Lbs. assuming it is a 2 valve. Just done mine last week. Regards Mark.
  7. LITrucker. Re the gasket . DONT QUOTE ME but the gasket you might need may be 590GB1298 as you are going from a by pass filter to a ESI 2 filters or ESI plus 3 filters. Also you may have to pull the sump off and check the pressure relief valve (on the oil pump). You may have 226GB121 cap. You will have to change the cap and spring to 226GB147 or 226GB122. It will prob be the 121 cap to limit the oil press for the by pass. You may have to change it to increase oil pressure to the filters. I know it goes round in circles as we found out years ago but some things cant be just bolted on,you have to change things in order to get the right oil pressure. Hope it don't confuse you. The water pump. Early ones pre-ESI were long shaft. Later were ESI short shaft. You might have to change ( the housing only) Regards Mark
  8. Re the oil filter set up. Just looked up the book and the E motor looks like it don't have an oil cooler. sorry abt the misleading. Just get the filter set up and make shure you get the right gasket. Haven't seen a E motor here in OZ. Regards Mark
  9. HI Rod talked to you on the phone the other day. Always change the main first, main 3 splits main ect . When comming down 3 splits main 3 splits main ect. When in 4th just go to 5th Don't use the compound in 5th . When you get used to it you can use 2 hands and do tricks . Takes a lot of practice. Done 6 years in one Regards Mc OZ
  10. Hi from down under. Mark is my name I live on the east coast . Bought the old flinstone 26 years ago. Work it every day. Just keep re building it like the old axe you might say. Was C motor Quad box 34's. Over the years put 44's, 12 series roadranger and 320coolpower, 1986 econodyne cab& fiberglass bonnet & 440 ltr alloy tanks. Work with the big bangers all day but i don't have a paymen't book. Wore out 3 motors am re building the motor this week as a little end bush started to break up. just on 800.000 could have just done the pin bushes as the rest of the motor was still good but decided to give it the full out of chassis work over. Done over 3.3 million k's Good product i recon . Mc OZ
  11. Hi. Re the oil filter. Don't know about the E motor, did it on my C motor. You got to get short shaft water pump housing & oil cooler and the pedestall & the spin on filter housing and also you must get the right gasket for the bottom housing as there is different gaskets for differen't applications. eg piston cooling ect. I changed my C motor over to get rid of the lubrefiner filter sitting on top of the motor. If you get the set up from a late 237 it should do it. You can't just put the pedestall & spin-on housing on as the pipes on the oil cooler don't match up. Might be right on the E motor though. The hole in the block is just a drain just put in a plug. Mc OZ.
