  1. Hi Mike Thanks for the compliments. In reality an thinking Back it looked good but it was just a Truck, a tool to make a dollar. Was it a pleasure to drive? NO. Quadbox. no power steering, slow, under powered. hot rough. Reliable ? yes. Sorry no u-tube vids. I will get around to put some piccys in the photo album Still finding more and try to date them in order. In reality it was a Go truck not a show truck. Regards Mark
  2. The no engine number would be right. The the engine in my mack now, came from Gleemans and it never had an engine number stamped. It had a Mack pedigree Re build plate 6/97. It came from the US. It had done hardly any work. It had some sort of coupling on The harmonic balancer so i presume it came out of a mixer or a garbage compactor. Replacement blocks never had an engine number. If your block was U/S they would stamp your old number on it . I just stamped my old engine number. Mark
  3. I don't know if it was a 71 or 92 didn't realy care. I wouldn't put a GM in anything. I had a 8V71T in a white 4000 for 8 years and when i bought the econodyne it shaved over 1/3 of me fuel bill. REpowering a truck with those series GM's now is well and truly out of date. dinosours
  4. Jeff Yes I am pretty shure it was Hayes, candy apple maroon coulor Didn't take a lot of notice it could have been a 700. somebody said it was rolled over. Used to see it come up the coast loaded with timber. I think they had a W model with a V12 that suffered the same fate. Never could check it out it was always too fast.
  5. Joe just kidding with the yellow pages. What are you after? Mack since Volvo have taken over and the 2 valve engines are well and truly out of date have bugger all 2 valve stuff. I am saying that it is getting scarce as in nearly 30 years of owing macks i am surprised when i go in for bits they are not as plentyfull as they always were. they have got to search around the dealers for some stuff Last year i wanted a waterpump for my 2 valve short shaft ESI ect and they said they don't do em any more. Not even a kit Lucky Gleemans had a few PAI pumps in stock. AS for Maxitouque 5 speed i seriousley doubt you can get many parts as they became obsolete after the 70's. Mack trans were always extremley expensive to do up. Thats why a lot of people Fitted roadrangers. You just got to ring around Mack Gleemans Hi Toque ect. Down here When the fellow that owned South coast truck spares died they dumped 14 tons of Mack spares Quad boxes front axles every thing you could imagine. I personly seen it in the bins . Was in his will that it was to be dumped and not for sale. true story. There is still a lot if stuff around and you just have to search for it. Mark.
  6. Early Mack engines evolved from scania designs anyway. I don't know about the real early ones. Back in the late sixties early seventies I watched a crowd Re power 2 R190's with six cyl scania diesels i think they 210 hp from memory. I know the trucks worked for many years I don't think they had any problems. Down here in OZ i worked with a fellow with a scania 365 hp. I will say that i worked worked every day with that truck and it never gave any trouble. It was 15 years old when he sold it and i can say that apart from 1 in chasis o/h it never gave any trouble. I think the turbo was 12 years old when he finaly changed it I think the six cyl engine was prety good. Mark
  7. When I first bought the Flintstone home. It came from Tamworth. I drained the air tank, Left the tap opened nothing mutch came out so i left a 2 gallon bucket under it for the nite Went to work. Came home next day and there was a twelve foot oil slick down the driveway. bucket full. Trouble was it was in mums driveway. Still have the broom marks on my head to prove it. Years later Had to take the tank off or move it. Undone all the ail lines ect undone the brackets and the bloody thing dropped down on my chest winding me. I could not work out why it was so heavy, when i picked one end up i got covered in oil I drained 7 litres of oil out of it. I worked out pretty quick that it had 2 compartments. Thats why now it has 2 drain taps. Things you learn. Mark
  8. IF it is an econodyne it should have a radiator intercooler. if it is a 237 you could ad an intercooler but you need re calibrate the pump different injectors re do the timing and match a turbo ect . it goes on and on to do it properly mark
  9. MY R model RST611 had or still has one tank. I think all the early B's and R's up to about 1975 here in OZ had only one tank. If you look at one of the photos you will see a ring of weld if you look real hard at most early tanks you can see a feint weld around the tank. They nearly all have a baffle or divider in them with a small hole at the top. That was a crude type of wet tank. Thats why most of them have 2 drain taps. My thoughts Mark
  10. HI jeff My C motor went to Grafton in 1992. To my good friend Brian Taylor at Banana coast towing. Have been friends with Brian for 30 years. He came down to visit last christmas an i asked if he still had the motor. I think it is in a single drive B model. He said it was still going but " getting a bit smokey but still going" Mark
  11. The C motor was a completley different engine to the Maxidyne. They had different pistons smaller gudgeon pin different rods bigger weights on the crank. the touque was at 1500 fuel settings were completley different. You could fuel them up a bit but they were a fragile motor as to the maxidyne . I had my C motor with 10% across the the range but kept the touque at 1500. It would hold it's own with a 290 cummins and give a 903 a good run for it's money. I certanly would not try to make a C motor into a Maxidyne you would kill it. Thats only my thoughts Mark
  12. Hi Jeff Before you start drilling, Try swapping the chassis mounts from right to left. When i took the Quad box single plate clutch out to fit a roadranger with twin plate clutch, The mounts either angle foward or back the R/R mounts would not line up so i swapped them to right left and the mounting bolts dropped in. Just a thought Mark
  13. I was wrong about the B model haven't looked at that since the eighties. You get that
  14. HI. Barry I will take a stab in the dark about the mountings. My R 600 mounts 12515 R/R are 6" from flywheel housing R/R is roughly 3' 6" long to centre of uni. The maxitouque box without splitter aux would be a bit shorter. 4' 6" would be close for a aux box. The 5x4 spicer setup would come close. The jackshaft was not very long just a couple of yokes and 2 or 3 inches of tube. I will try to find a piccy of a Brambles B model fitted with Quad box and Spicer 4 speed aux. Mark
  15. Hi yep the old girl is still on the road . But I Re powered it and put a fibreglass bonnet ect. Wore it out again. then Rebuilt it again econodyne cab alloy tanks ect. Sadly Its been on the coal and it is well used. still doing Its daily work. I have a lot of piccys that are stuck in a photo album, Iam trying to un stick them without ripping them. Down in Wollongong still working. Mark
  16. I joined a while ago and people asked me to post a photo of my Mack. I had to scan them of photos anyway here goes.... Mark
  17. HI Rob The power steering pumps VICKERS pumps go from 1.5 gpm 4 gpm up to 5 gpm from memory. The Garrison setup uses the bigger pumps for the twin rams . When you fit a Shepherd full power steer boy you go down in size as the Shepherd box dont need the extra flow. Got the paperwork for that buried in the archives somewhere Regards Mark.
  18. Hi Adrian We did em all the time only a fey seals and rings inside, easy to do. The controll spool valve on the RH/s is a right pain when they get some wear in them. Never liked the idea , steering was always too vague. Replaced them with Shepperd box's. The last one i did was nine years ago and it still going not a problem yet Regards Mark
  19. HI The twin ram setup would most likley be Garrison. most common to R models. Regards Mark.
