  1. When I drove one of these trans in a dump truck, I put it in low, get 2 gears to get out of the soft stuff,then shift to high and continue through the rest. It's more like splitting every gear than it is 5 low-5 high. I think if you try to shift it the way you were going to it would be a big suprise. Have fun with it. Bill
  2. Adrian, The few windows that I installed had the locking strip on the outside of the truck. Most Mack dealer parts departments can help with part #'s.Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Bill

  5. Does anyone know who sells or where I can get a dual chamber aluminum fuel tank? I've seen them on a Pete. I'm looking for the kind that you can put fuel in one side and hyd. oil in the other. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Bill
  6. Sorry about the misinformation, my brain wasn't fully engauged.Ice in the small line:too much pressure. I had ice in the 90 degree elbow going into the tank from the comp line: no pressure.Sorry about that,glad Thad was thinking staight. Bill

Hey guys, I finally got the spin-on filter assm. on my old 673(McOz you were right about changing the water pump housing I also had to use the pump that came with it to line up the fan belts,and the gasket # you gave me was right on,thanks) when I fired it up the oil pressure went to the max, at dead idle it was keeping a steady 95psi. The only reason I can come up with is that the unit came off a turbo engine and I removed and plugged the oil line so there is no release. I'm not sure how to solve this. Do I try and find a different relief set-up for the new housing or should I run a line from the turo port to the 1/4 drain back hole? Would that be enough? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Bill
  8. My guess would be that you need a d-2 govenor. I had the same prob with a truck at work and it turned out there was a little ice in the line from the gov. to the tank, you may want to blow back through that also.Good luck. Bill
  9. McOz, Thanks. Man, you're a wealth of information. I appreciate it. I've been a mechanic for 30 yrs and a rig mechanic for 12 of those ,mostly straight up repair work and maintanence but, I'm getting into uncharted lands trying to fix up my old Mack so feel free to be as technical as you want. I know I'm not through asking questions. I hope the junky and the Mack dealer are as helpful.Thanks again Bill
  10. McOZ, Thanks for the info. I'm getting the entire set-up,filter housing,cooler,etc. from a 70's dm. My engine doesn't have a cooler so I had to go for it.I'll see about the water pump when I try to fit it together.Would I need to get the gasket for the old bottom plate or for the spin-on? Thanks for the help. Bill
  11. Hi everybody, got a couple of questions I hope someone can answer. I have a 70 R model with a 673e engine I want to put a spin on filter set-up for the oil although I was informed that there are a few different hole configurations on the block mount part I'm going with the hope that by the grace of God the mount that I'm getting out of a junkyard will fit. First Q,there is a 1/4 or 3/8 line comming off of the old "spakle bucket" filter housing that goes to a fitting on the bottom of the block just above the pan rail,does this need to be pressurized or is it a drain back line? Also if the junkyard part doesn't fit ,is there an aftermarket housing or adapter that would work? any help would be appreciated Thanks Bill
