  1. I built several of the R685 kits over the years. On the later ones, the quality had deteriorated somewhat and the parting lines had grown substantially. I always wished they had done a kit of the older R models with the steel dash. Some of AITM's had the old dash. Never enough time or options!
  2. Yep. Happy Birthday, 'Duck!
  3. There were 124 B13's made. Odd number should have been a diesel. Can't find any information on what engines came in those. Also 131 B23's made. Again, odd numbers should be diesel powered. Same problem. Can't find a lot of info on those either. Considering the clutch lever mentioned, this could easily have been a truck engine, later converted to power a generator or a sawmill. Speaking of sawmills, I had a cousin who ran his sawmill off a 50's model END-673 out of a wrecked B model. Still had the 9-speed overdrive Duplex behind it. Even still used the parking brake on the output of the trans. Plenty of power and plenty of speed options! Overkill, you think?
  4. Man! How long I wanted to hear that! I ended up buying a bunch of First Gear Diecast 1/25 scale B-models because no kit was available. I don't build many models anymore (no time, old hands, old eyes, etc.). But I would probably grab a couple (or more) for the "just in case" situation.
  5. If releasing the "parking brake" on your truck involves moving a rock...
  6. A B20 with a small diesel. Now that could be. Still like to know more about this.
  7. This is actually a 50 ton model. These guys have some really cool equipment.
  8. A 600mm pallet-size HMC and a 60" VTL. Nobody wanted them. So, la-la-la-la-la, off to the dump they went! The Trilifter is cool though, huh?
  9. Sending some old machines nobody wanted to the scrap yard.
  10. "I only used as much poison as necessary and not a 55-gallon drum more." Dale Gribble, regarding the chemicals used to control Hank Hill's ant problem in his lawn.
  11. Could it have been the pump motor off of Dale Gribble's insecticide sprayer?
  12. I was thinking generator or some other stationary application. Like Geoff said, not enough power for much of any kind of truck. This one definitely has me puzzled!
  13. If you've ever told the judge to "Hold on a minute" so you could "like" a post on BigMackTrucks...
  14. Now, if we can just figure out how Mack ended up with this thing!
  15. It sure looks like the White/Hercules that FJDRILL mentioned. But I can't find anything about when/where Mack used those engines. Sure would like to know more about that.
  16. When did Mack use those, or in what trucks?
  17. You sure have our curiosity piqued!!!!!!
  18. Kinda' off the wall, but could that be a mid-'50s Scania? Don't shoot me if I'm way off there!
  19. Good point on the Lanova heads. I will try to dig through some Mack info tonight and see if I can find anything that might at least narrow down the possibilities. I still bet Geoff knows!
  20. Cherokee Show 2313 Tsali Blvd. (Hwy 441N) Cherokee, NC. Saturday, October 21st. 8:00-5:00.
  21. 1. Is there a felt wiper that applies lube to the breaker cam? If so, add some grease to that pad to lubricate the cam and rubbing block. 2. DW has a more likely solution. If the voltage is wrong, the points might be sticking closed (think "arc weld"), putting too much load on the rubbing block while "breaking them open". This will definitely eat up the block in short order. I also had some points from Mallory one time that were just plain too stiff. But, I think that was a bad batch. They replaced them and I never had another issue with them.
  22. Here is another discussion about older stuff...
  23. That is more like where my mind was going, 67. Thanks for the details!
  24. Well, looks like Roosa had their first contract to produce pumps in 1952. So, still may be the earlier Mack diesel, before the ones I am more familiar with.
