Right. Another good way is to take the valve cover off and work the rack back and forth. We got a 4-71N with 250 hours on it out of our local scrapyard (the same place were we got our B model) because it ran away once and they scrapped it. We took the valve cover off and found that the linkage from the governer to the rack popped lose. We put a new pin in it and it's just fine now. We haven't been able to run that engine either because when they pulled it out at the scrapyard, they punched a hole in the oil pan. So it's back to that feeling of anticipation again. Ben

Luckily, all our Detroits have been free. We always keep something to cover the intake, just in case. I've seen videos of them running away, and just the video is the worst horror movie ever filmed. Ben

I know the feeling of anticipation. After we fixed the injector pump on our B model, I couldn't wait to hear it run. It took forever to prime the system and it was frustrating. But that feeling of sitting in that seat, hitting that pedal, and hearing that beautiful sound is made so much better when you had to wait for it. Especially after that terrifying feeling of sitting in the seat when it ran away the first time, it was a huge relief. Ben

Great! I can't wait to see the video. We haven't been able to run ours because when it starts it fills the whole shop with smoke. We need to get a hose to take the exhaust out the door. Hopefully we'll get a hose soon so we can run it. Ben

Wow! I would love to have those, they look very clean. It just costs so much to pay sombody to haul them. After we get our B60 on the road, we want to get a trailer so we can go pick up some of the many good, cheap trucks out there. Ben

I think it's really neat that there's another kid out there just like me. I learned to drive by watching my dad very closely, and the first thing I drove was an '81 Chevy C10 shortbed with a 250cid Straight-Six. We use it for hauling stuff around the house. I haven't gotten to drive a manual trans yet, but I will pretty soon.

Ha, Ha, I'm Home-Schooled. Suprizingly, I've actually met a bunch of kids like that. I guess it's all in having an open mind. No matter what, I have a 1957 Cadillac Fleetwood 75 Limosine, among other antiques, so I'm automaticly cool. Ben

Hey, I'm 13 and sang along the whole time I watched it. My mom listens to BOB.FM so I hear to this stuff all the time. My dad and I watch The Cool TV (a local channel) and they play all kinds of videos like this (not so many Macks though) I'm the kid that sings Johnny Cash, Journey, Taylor Swift, Nickelback, CW Mccall, Vanilla Ice, George Strait, The Stray Cats, Black Eyed Peas, The Beatles, Alan Jackson, Elvis Presley, Colt Ford, or anything like that. I'm pretty sure that isn't a Detroit falling through the air over the cliff, so they probably just used the sound from an 8v71 or 92, like in Convoy. This movie looks alot like Duel for sure. I'd like to get it on DVD and watch it sometime. Convoy is by far my favorite movie hands-down. Ben

My first ride will go as follows: My dad is going to teach me to weld and torch shortly after my 14th birthday in June. Then my project will commence progress. I also agree with the statement "cars are for city kids and girls." It's starting as a 1954 GMC 250 Deluxe 1-Ton pickup. Were also soon to aquire a '52 Chevy Suburban to use to custom-fabricate a crew cab (don't worry, it has already been relieved of any parts of value). We also have an '84 International 4200 parts truck with a Detroit Diesel 6V92TA and 9-Speed Roadranger. The final product will be a 1954 GMC, Crew Cab, Long Bed, Fleetside Pick-up Truck, with a 400+ HP DD 6V92TA & RT-909, 46" Military Tires, and 5-Ton Rockwell 4X4 suspension. Also other small acsessories such as dual 8" straight stacks, 1/4" steel bumpers, Air Conditioning, Powerful Stereo System, ETC. Overall, it is a pretty ambitious project, but I am relatively confident in my (and my dad's) ability to follow through with its completion by my 16th birthday two years from now. Ben

Wow! You guys all had awsome first rides. This is my Dad's first car: It's a 1971 Chevy Monte Carlo with a hot rod 396 Big-Block in it. It's been modified slightly since when he got it in 1988, but it's neat that we still have it. Ben

Our B60 has the exhaust underneath (no stack) and it has two idenical 50 gallon aluminum fuel tanks. I think they are factory for the truck, but I'm not positive. Ben

That might work. No matter what throttle control it has, the pump it self is where the rack is. The first time we started our B model, the rack was stuck and let me tell you, it was SCARY! Luckily, we had a piece of ceramic tile to cover the intake. Even in neutral, the engine could still over rev and be damaged. Better to be safe than sorry. Ben
