  1. The sad, pathetic truth.
  2. Excellent. He has some awesome stories and the book would probably sell very well if he decided to go that route.
  3. You ain't lying!
  4. I'm guessing the person who came up with the nickname "The Garden State" wasn't walking through the Ironbound section of Newark at the time. South Jersey down through the DelMarVa peninsula is my favorite part of the east coast.
  5. Glad to hear he made it there safe. I wish I had his smarts and ambition when I was 19. I still would've ended up a truck driver, but a smarter, more ambitious one!
  6. I admire your perseverance.
  7. Doesn't everything get better half way through a six-pack?
  8. LOL. From north Jersey, south Jersey seems like the end of the earth.
  9. I once ran over a turtle and felt bad about it, and yet I've killed 8 deer with vehicles and didn't shed a tear over any of them.
  10. Check out the passenger compartment. Sometimes the fact that they don't "build them like they used to" can be a good thing.
  11. I've caused my share of rolling roadblocks because two of us crested the hill together and the guy with the bruised ego in the right lane had something to prove. My company goes to great lengths to maintain an excellent safety record yet they refuse to acknowledge how governing our trucks at 65 mph can be hazardous, especially when many of the highways we travel have 70 mph limits.
  12. Can we say "scumbags"? The person(s) responsible are all those things and more. I hope that, at the very least, your stuff is recovered in good condition.
  13. She's a doll. Best of Luck with her!
  14. Those types of crossings are all too common in Pennsylvania and many are extremely dangerous as a driver cannot see oncoming traffic without stopping on the tracks. It's a literally a matter of checking that the rr tracks are clear for as far as you can see and hoping for the best when you get to the intersection. This one is not so bad because it appears there aren't many obstructions to block the driver's view of the intersection from behind the crossing gate.
  15. UPS doesn't seem to keep equipment as long as they used to. I'll bet that package car above was worked well into the 70's. The one I drove in 1991 was on a 1974 Ford chassis.
  16. I'm thinking '75-'76 was when the 3408 came out. Coincidently, I think that's about the time the gull wing bumpers started to appear. They do look good on older models though, since the K and W series went several years with minimal cosmetic changes. There is/was an R model running around the Pittsburgh area with a KW gull wing bumper. It looked like it belonged there, real sharp.
  17. I think he actually got stuck trying to find 3rd gear.
  18. Great detective work. Magnum P.I. has nothing on you!
  19. If you want to hire qualified drivers, why not go with manuals and put the savings into your pay and benefit package!!!
  20. He did one helluva smoosh job!
  21. "Yessir, I can maintain control of an 80,000 lb tractor trailer on a snow covered, winding two lane road with an 8% downgrade but as far as pushing a pedal and moving a lever...uh....no can do" I don't know where the industry is heading, but I don't think it's a good place and it's heading there fast.
  22. LOL, I just Googled "1967 KW K100" to give you an example since I knew it wasn't a '68 or newer. This was the 2nd pic in the images: https://www.flickr.com/photos/92957474@N04/12306996645/in/gallery-31486821@N02-72157639836071706/
  23. At first I only noticed the headlights but the dashboard (as seen through the windshield) is also from that era. There are probably more clues but we would need someone who is well versed in Paccarology to point them out. KW used that same basic cab for almost 1000 years.
  24. Sounds like you need a triples endorsement on your license. The written test is the easy part. Congratulations!
  25. That's a pre-gull wing, Mark. I think '67 or older judging by the headlight buckets. Either way, I agree on the bumper.
