  1. Beautiful truck,Mario; Welcome to the forum! As you might have figured from reading the posts here,we LOVE Mack truck pictures;interior, under the hood, drivetrain, dashboard, pics of the truck at work, parked at home, bring 'em on. The more details you can show, the more the guys and gals on this forum can tell you about your truck. Another thing that will help you a lot is to send the VIN number and whatever other "paperwork" details you know to the Truck Museum;there's a link on this website to it. They can give you a pretty complete package of information on your particular truck, like where and when it was built, when and where it was bought new,who ordered it,as well as some technical and service information. They put a lot of effort into this,so a decent donation to the Museum is always greatly appreciated. In the meantime, feel free to ask all the questions you want, these people enjoy helping other Mack owners learn the Mack truck world. Am I right in thinking you removed the crane from your truck? If it's just lying in your yard getting in your way,I'd gladly take it off your hands, since my 1945 EH model has a bare spot on its frame that would fit that crane, and a lot of work to do. As far as information on your "B",I can't do you much good there;my EH is a slightly lighter duty truck (It doesn't know that though.),and is powered by a gas six cylinder,so there's not much that's the same, but there's plenty of "B" owners here;you'd have to work at it to throw them a question they haven't dealt with. 2. I got the doors on the big block truck swapped, and put a better hood on it as well. Spent half a day getting everything adjusted to eliminate air leaks at the tops of the doors, and to get the hood to pull down snug at the rear corners when I shut it. also put a different stereo in it,found the connector that snaps onto the windshield antenna and plugs into the antenna socket (it was missing from the truck) and actually bought some speakers,so I have a stereo now. I finally emptied the right tank so I can change out the sender. Hope that fixes the problem! Next big item will be a new 12" clutch, later this Summer. (And a case of black primer-this truck is currently 5 different colors, and some don't look good together.) I'm finally seeing the weather moving towards the warming I've waited for,so I can start getting some work done. Won't be too long until I can bring the Mack into town, get the brakes sorted out,get some glass done, get decent tires on it,put it to work. Should be a fairly busy Summer. It's getting pretty late,I should get a little sleep. more later. Speed
  3. Do you have any really good friends in more "sympathetic" states, who might be willing to help out? If so,ask one of them if he/she'd be willing to buy slightly over half ownership of the truck for maybe $10.00,and license and insure it in that state. By your retaining less than half ownership, you wouldn't have the responsibility to comply, and you'd still have to give the final okay to any intended sale or trade of the truck, just in case there's a parting of the ways down the road or your friend should prove to be a less than good friend. Since the truck would be licensed and insured in another state, and a resident of another state would be the majority owner, and you're only "borrowing" it from the primary owner when you need it,I don't think they'd have much to work with. You'll want to discreetly check the rules for both states though, because they may play from a different rule book there than we do out here. Speed
  4. This is where my favorite gearing/tire size cruncher is: tire size/gearing number cruncher Speed
  5. I noticed something strange last time I changed the oil in the BroncWorth;I used Rotella and a FRAM filter, and fired it up. After running it for about 5 minutes while I put things away and emptied the drain pan,I looked in at the gauge and saw about 15 pounds of oil pressure. That seemed kinda low to me compared to before the oil change,so I took the bike and got a Motorcraft filter and put it on. Now the oil pressure is more than double what it was with the FRAM. Don't know if it was just a fluke or what, but I have to agree about going with OEM filters at the very least, and I too have preferred WIX when possible. Up here,Wix seems to be the County's best kept secret-nobody can(or WILL) tell me where to get 'em around here. Speed
  6. I've been up against the same kind of problem with my ol' EH. I want to be able to use it as Farmer52 is set for;"occasional transportation of personal property by individuals not for compensation",but they're telling me the only way I can legally drive the truck is to get standard Commercial plates for it,though I can go with a "declared weight" of 19,000 which is the max. rating on the truck without a 5th wheel plate (I presume they're thinking flatbed truck). Anyway,it's really hard for me to justify spending $300.00 per year for registration (and it doesn't get cheaper next year-it's the same price per year!),about $2,000.00 per year for insurance (due to Commercial plates)and 6-7 miles per gallon just to drive, essentially,a play truck around. Personally,I think the only reason they're taking this so seriously is because it's a ;I was as much as told outright that if it was a Chevy,or my GMC 2 ton,it'd cost me the same for tags and insurance as for my Chevy one ton. All I can say is WTF???? Does it sound like sufficient grounds for a discrimination lawsuit against the State of Nevada? Speed
  7. Speed

    Damn:

You should get this one,and don't use the excuse "It's too far away"-just fly out and drive it home. BTW-where the heck is Ammon? Could they be referring to Salmon,Id.? Speed
  8. I believe Packer has one;if he doesn't have one on hand,he probably knows where there is one. Packer's kind of a Pied Piper for E models, for some reason. He'll probably clock in here soon. Good luck in your search. Speed
  9. Looks like we're on the same page after all! And again,"That's one reason I like it here!"
  10. Gambi,I'll save ya a good seat!
  11. You're right,Rob; None of us is perfect, and we've all made mistakes and bad choices in life, but the people we were in the past doesn't matter near as much as the people we are now. sorry if we hit a sore spot. Speed
  12. OOOoooohh-Now it makes sense. I'm guessing the actual wheel surface on all hubs for duals is cut to the same basic dimensions then. I'll get it figured out. I'll bet that EH will drive 100% better with the bigger radials on it! Thanks! Speed
  13. when I was training tire installers for Sears I was told I had to have steel toed boots,so I took my $50.00 allowance over to the main store and bought a pair of "Caterpillar" boots. Took a month or two to break in,but were really comfortable after that.Got 3 years of use out of 'em,finally one sole split just ahead of the heel, and the eyelets were cutting the laces in half so I replaced 'em. I bought a pair of Georgia insulated lace ups with Vibram soles about a year ago. Wore 'em for 2 months and one sole started peeling off at the heel. Took 'em back to the store and they never said a thing except,"Well,go pick a new pair out." I did, they were about $20.00 more than the ones I brought back. The cashier said,"Here's your receipt,be sure to keep it in case you need to bring THESE back." I said"What about the price difference?" and she said,"Don't worry about it-we're good." I LOVE small town stores! Speed
  14. I guess what bothers me the most about Reid's remarks is this;Okay, this was one big mistake he made, speaking this way. But we really can't write it off as one mistake,it's much larger than that. If he spoke that way once (and I'd bet it's been far more often, just not as commonly known),it was because he wasn't thinking of the ramifications of his words. So-how many MORE times has he THOUGHT racist thoughts but thought quickly enough to NOT say 'em? How can we ever trust that his attitude towards Blacks hasn't affected his actions politically? I'm sorry-I try to give him the benefit of doubt, but I'll always believe that if those words slipped out once, they've been washing through his mind for a long time, and that alone makes him someone who has no business setting government policies,or making ANY decisions that affect the public. And-BTW-I don't believe his "apologies" are because he's sorry to have voiced his thoughts,I think they're because hes sorry people have heard what kind of man he really is,at a very bad time, for him. And you'll notice I said "Blacks" not Afro-Americans. I referred to the Blacks to make a point;primarily, though,I don't believe in any people but AMERICANS,regardless where they grew up or migrated from. I think if someone wants to throw another country of origin together with AMERICAN,then THEY'RE playing the race card, and that's unacceptable. Sorry if I'm stepping on any toes here, but I'm really trying to make at least MY little piece of the world,EQUAL. Speed
  15. I'm expecting to be able to keep my home;anything else,if I can't cash it out,I don't buy it. Speed
  16. I was raised that way too. Throughout my life,I've tried to do the right thing consistently (And BOY-it's cost me plenty! )but, like you said,I don't have any trouble sleeping at night because of anything I've done,or haven't done. I notice that people who are good souls tend to attract other like-minded people, and I like being surrounded by good people. That's one reason I like it here! Speed
  17. Mike; The reason I think they "under-rate" the axles,(and probably just about everything else) is because they figure there may be soldiers' lives on the line, and military drivers are inclined to use a truck pretty hard under normal circumstances, and much harder under fire,so better to not leave anything to chance;make sure the truck was up for whatever might come up. Of course,I could be wrong. I think it's kinda like when the Power Company here bought new trucks, they used to spec them out just as tough as was possible, figuring there'd be a high percentage of drivers who "could break a steel ball in a sandbox." Cheaper to order it right to begin with than have to keep fixing stuff.
  18. Hi all; I have a full set of 10R20's on Dayton wheels that I'd really like to run on my '45 EH. I don't know how much wider the wheels are,but I'm wondering,if I go ahead and install these with the spacers for the stock sized 20's,can I use different cleats to make them tighten properly, providing the sidewalls have the clearance they need? I'm expecting fender and frame clearance problems on the front,so that's not a big issue. I have enough threads left on the U-bolts to add a couple of inches of spacers on the front springs, should help the fenders clear. for the frame,I'll just cut a notch on each side. Just KIDDING! I'll adjust the stops right at the edge of "RUB". This truck doesn't do U-turns in the middle of the block anyway,so a little larger turning radius won't kill me. I probably already covered this,so thanks for re-answering my dumb questions. Speed
  19. Haven't locked in an "official" use for this one yet;my other one ton is built pretty solid, but isn't near as good on the highway, and with a smallblock it falls short on power when the loads get heavy,so I think I'll be using this one for pulling a car trailer or flat towing cars and light trucks (1-1/2 ton and smaller) when I pick up or deliver 'em. Come Springtime,it's gonna need a new clutch, and I'll install the good doors that came with it at that time. Other than that,it's pretty much good to go. I've run across the factory tach dashes occasionally, they show up on eBay now and then. That and tilt steering, and the front end being in good shape, make it a good truck on the highway. Kinda wish I could get a little better mileage, but I think it'd take a Cummins transplant and/or a 3 speed Brownie to do that. My other one ton,I think, will become a winch truck. I'm working on getting a 15,000 pound PTO winch, and I have a PTO box I think fits the NP435 I have in it. The general plan is to build jin (sp?) poles, add idler pulleys all over the truck, and set it up so I can winch from any direction. Since it won't have to have a mountain of power,I'll hopefully end up with a good 292 six, from the same man that has the winch,to put in it,(with another new clutch)and do some work on the 355 it currently has, (low miles on rebuild but makes too much crankcase pressure at road speed,no matter how I configure the breathers.) maybe put it back in later,if I don't end up with another use for it. Of course,my EH will be pulling a 35 foot 5th wheel flatbed as soon as I get all this stuff tuned in. Still have some work to do on the truck before I can safely drive it on the road. As soon as I can get my wire feed operable again,I'll start building the Mack's trailer. Any heavy welding that needs to be done,I have two friends who have the big guns,so it shouldn't be a problem. This trailer will have an electric winch for loading, and I'm thinking of dove-tailing it,with slide out ramps, and I want to put receiver hitch sockets down both sides and on the back,to use a smaller removable winch or to tow another trailer behind. Don't know how stout the trailer axles will be,but I'll figure on replacing/upgrading them later on. They currently have the "wide-four bolt" wheels that were popular on RV's. I figure if they're okay for a total 14,000 pounds, they'll work, but I doubt that'll be the case. Speed
  20. Hi all; I know this isn't a ,but it works like one. It's a 1976 GMC one ton duallie I got as payment for repossessing an ATV and snow plow for a friend. Not much to look at,but has some good features:454 engine that runs pretty decent,SM465 transmission that seems quiet and shifts well,4.10 rear axle, has good HydraBoost power brakes, tilt steering, factory tach, dual tanks-40 gallon cap.,WAS air cond.,missing compressor.(I have one in the shop,so it'll get on-board air for horns, filling tires, power tools etc.) It has 9.50R-16.5's that are near new,and has a new dual exhaust. I've driven it from Reno to Elko, and a couple of trips back to Reno. Drives nice, and gets better mileage than my smallblock one ton. I named it Rocky,it kinda reminds me of the character Stallone played in the "Rocky" movies. I'll try to get some pics included here. Speed
  21. Yeah-that's about what I thought, with its condition unproven. I was TOLD it's good, but since I didn't drive the truck it's out of,I can't call that a fact. Thanks for all your input on this, guys. I have to suspect the sale value of a transmission would increase directly proportionate to how desperate someone was to find one,at least that's been my experience. I suppose the transmission's value is just about the same as the value of an old Mack truck-just exactly whatever somebody's willing to pay for it. Well,I don't have anything it'll fit,so if any of you have a use for it,let me know. I'm sure we can reach some kind of agreement for it. Speed
  22. Hi all; Just wondering, what's the current used worth of an RT12513? I have one that the owner wants me to sell, but I don't have a clue what it'd be worth. The shifter's gone, but it's been covered, and looks clean and shiny inside. It was in a running, operating truck until the truck was rolled and they parted it rather than fixing it,about 8 years ago. It was stored inside a van trailer, covered up. Speed
  23. Might be worth a call to the DMV of whatever state the purchase is in;here in Nv. if you get a title with the truck you automatically get a 30 day temp. permit. They still like you to get insurance though. Speed
  24. You'd really love my '57 GMC 350 then-it's about as aerodynamic as a barn door! I guess that's why it's so low geared;not enough engine (270c.i. gas six)and with a blunt front end like it has, what difference would power make? Great truck Chris;seems like Whites were always under-appreciated,great trucks but not often given the restoration treatment. You did a beautiful job. Speed
