This is my steer axle brake can and it is leaking. Local Mack wants $1050, I did find one online for $830. Still a far cry from the $120 that I was expecting.

Is there a cross over to a standard can or am I stuck with this part?  The Bendix Rotochamber P/N is 101260N

If the "can" is good, open it up and replace the diaphragm:

Otherwise I would suggest replacing both chambers with type 24 clamp type. I think you might have trouble on inspection with one of each. Technically it should be ok, same area, but might be frowned on, being mixed.

I would keep the rotochamber if it is otherwise ok.

Looks like 2 of us had the same thoughts.. definitely do both for even brake performance and compliance for the law man, if you have such law men in The UK.

I believe he is in Wyoming, so same Law as you and I

I would keep the rotochamber, for two reasons, one is clearance, rotochambers are smaller in dia than clamp type of the same area, there may be clearance reasons rotochambers were used.

2nd is rotochambers are better (but way more expensive) as the force applied stays more or less constant over the stroke. As long as the "can" is serviceable, replacing the diaphragm leaves you better off.

I wonder if the bolt distance is the same as a modern brake chamber. Then you could put a pair of 24's on it and drive on

USUALLY  the 24'S WILL (would ) bolt up directly. main issue Use to be the position of the 24 band clamp. the 24's HAD a two bolt clamp; with today's cheaper manufacturing there may only be one bolt. Mack roto's had a felt wiper and o=ring inside.  replacing to 24's easy ?? either install the 24 on axle and using slack , back off the slack to compress inside spring.  large C-clamp to  hold canister together ;main purpose not to disturb the diaphragm.  rotate the clamp horizontal to vertical basically. or what ever position gives clearance.
