Bill Boyce76 Posted November 20, 2017 Share Posted November 20, 2017 I have an 04 mack vision with a 5-9 blink i have been told that this means that the EGR mass air flow sensor tube needs replacement ($1200). Can someone tell me what is the negative effect of running the truck with a bad EGR mass air flow tube? Will I cause other more costly damage? But Not ALWAYS However when this happen s usually the EGR COOLER has failed that 1200 dollars now becomes 3000 dollars ! Are u also loosing coolant? If so the afore mentioned may apply in this case you have two choices Spend the the 3000 grand or cap off the egr coolant and cap off the egr valve and bypass everything! Bill Boyce76 Posted November 21, 2017 Author Share Posted November 21, 2017 I checked the cooler not loosing coolant, and the tubes are dry including egr mass flow tube. so I think the cooler is ok is this mack egr system problematic, or is it simply 350 k miles normal maintenance? fjh Posted November 22, 2017 Share Posted November 22, 2017 as stated Check out the egr post there althou getting the egr VALVE loose at this point is going to be tough it would be worth it in the long run!make a plate for beneath the valve!
