1988 R with sleeper

Recommended Posts

Here's another nice Mack I came across a few years ago. I had forgotten about these pics until this past week when I saw this truck bobtailing south on I-79 in WV.

The Owner/Operator rebuilt this truck himself and said he was surprised at how many people appreciated seeing in old R model in such nice shape. IIRC, I was in a bit of a hurry so I just grabbed a few exterior shots while he sat in the truck. The interior was grey but the dashboard had the woodgrain finish like the tan interiors had. It was a sharp combo.

He did a nice job on that one. Years ago I put a hinge on a stainless trim screen behind the foot holes in the front bumper for a guy like this truck has. The original was was bent up badly from butting your foot against it to tip the hood.

That truck fits together pretty well.

There used to be not sure if it is still around but someone Leased to Mercer had an R with a big house on it pulling a flat or step. I haven't seen the truck in a few years. Think it was red if mempry serves me right

That sounds like "Cadillac Mack". I've seen him on the OH turnpike and I'm pretty sure the truck has been discussed on here.

Apparently I've searched for this truck in the past, not my pic however:

I've recently read on another site that truck caught fire and burned up too badly to repair.

I think this was a repaint but I remember Gilchrist/Queensway. Didn't their trailers have a big yellow crown on them?

I was leased to Gilchrist/Queensway in mid 80'S. I was leased to their Northeast Delivery Company. All 3 were owned by same family. They now run a company called Dupont Motor Lines Old Forge,Pa.same old terminal. When I was working for them they had plenty of work and paid on time with decent rates. They ran a lot of F-Model Macks back then. Green dash Queensway Trailers did have the yellow crown on them.Joe D.
