  1. I think the Diamond Reo Camper shown above is now part of the Keystone Antique Truck & Tractor Museum, one was in their shop when I was there in the spring. The fellow in the shop I was talking to said they had recently acquired it.
  2. If anyone on this site has a GMC from this era you may want to check ALL your brake lines. I experienced a catastrophic failure last week. I had to slam on brakes like never before because of a moron making a U-turn in front of me. Brake pedal went clear to the floor. Turns out the brake line had rusted out where it runs over to the RF wheel and burst when I applied the brakes. Turns out this era of truck has had many brake line problems according to NHTSA. A thorough inspect may save your life.
  3. In the 6-th pic it looks like a nice CF Mack Fire Truck to the right of your rig, please get a pic of it if you are there again.
  4. Jim, You are right on that. I took quite a few. Always good to have for reference when I'm trying to figure out how to finish things.
  5. I agree with the majority of the previous posts----TOO MUCH DRAMA on all of them. The Velocity Show I despise the most is Graveyard Carz, what an egotist that guys is—everybody is stupid but him. I got to meet Ralph from Chasing Classic Cars on Monday and he was a very interesting guy. He ask me what brought us to Ct. from Virginia, told him we had gone to Truck Show in Western Mass. I told him we have a 42’ Mack and he had plenty of questions and told me how he enjoyed working on old trucks. “They are simple and nearly everything can be re-built,” not thrown away like the new things of today. In fact he had to help a guy get an old AC Model running a couple of weeks ago. Magneto problem which he was able to rebuild.
  6. Enjoyed meeting Jim Hancock at the New England Chapter A.T.C.A. Antique Truck Show this past Sunday. The day was picture perfect allowing my wife and I to see many Mack’s we have never seen before. It was nice to meet up with Jim, another owner of a “DE” Model. He has taken the time to answer several questions since I joined BMT for which I am grateful. Thanks for taking the time to meet up! Great Show my Northern Friends. Attached is a pic a cousin to my "DE"
  7. 42’ --- “DE” helping out with a home project today. While waiting at the scales I was in good company all the trucks there at that moment were Macks although much newer! IMG_0060.MOV
  8. Just saw this on Ebay 1946 Other Makes 1946 MACK MODEL EE CONVERTED FIRE TRUCK 6 CYLINDER FLATBED http://www.ebay.com/itm/Other-Makes
  9. Jim, Do you remember which side it was, the top one (with long band) came out of the right hand door. I agree, they could have changed vendors
  10. Prior to installing new side window glass I removed the window regulators to insure they would operate smoothly. Glad I did, the grease and debris attached to the gears was like glue. However, both the regulators did their job and mated with the 7-bolt holes in the doors perfectly. However, they were made differently. Attached is a photo of them, one is a little more robust than the other. CAN ANY OF THE EXPERTS DETERMINE WHICH ONE IS CORRECT? Being a 1942 DE manufactured just prior to the halt of civilian production in Feb 42 the possibility exists that they were using up parts to finish these trucks prior to the dead line------ANY THOUGHTS WOULD BE APPRECIATED Thanks!
  11. If anyone out there needs a Template for the side windows let me know. I just received my new windows from Street Rod Glass in Riverside CA. Reasonable price $75.00 each plus shipping cost. I didn't want trash the old ones until I had the new glass.
  12. I am in search of a right hand side mirror bracket that attaches to the upper door hinge. Any leads would be greatly appreciated Thanks Greg
  13. Enjoyed our day there. Thanks to BMT and Watts for their efforts! Here is a photo of either a ED or a DE. Reproduction hood tag showed ED Mack production plate showed DE Would like to know which one it actually is, in my quest to determine how ED's and DE's survive. thanks!
  14. I am on the same page with you. Other more pressing projects! Here is a screen shot from Hemmings and it looks like the ED or DE in the background is also in need of hood strips
  15. Jim, Thanks for the info about the small strips being unique to ED and DE trucks. I have a plan to fabricate some when I have somen spare time. I will keep you posted on progress. Greg
  16. Jerry, I made s sketch of the strips I need. 4-total, they mount in front and behind the Mack logo Thank you Greg 804-283-3026. Model DE Sketches-Layout2.pdf
  17. Jerry, I will measure them and give you a call. Thanks for thinking about this! Greg
  18. Drove a couple of Young pumpers with 2-spds and a Heavy squad by Welch. Pumpers ran like greased lightning. Sqd wouldn't get out of it's own way. I was on that LODD call, it was a sad Saturday morning that took two young lives much too soon.
  19. I need the center chrome strips (4) total pieces that mount adjacent to the Mack hood logo. In front of and behind. I have attached a pic so you can see where the strips are located. Any leads would be greatly appreciated--Thanks Greg
  20. Thanks for your response, been away from the DE for few days and just gave the door a little shove and it latched perfectly. Maybe it will continue to be this way
  21. Does anyone have any tips for adjust the door latch so it holds closed. The door will catch on the first cog but won't stay in the closed position. Thanks!
