  1. Right hand frame rail a little behind the air compressor. Its a real pain to get at, i have no idea why they put it there. If you poke around you will see it. Thats where they are on CLs so I would imagine thats where the CH would be.
  2. Good find! I'm in almost the same position as far as condition goes but I'm only getting one truck. They dont look too bad for what they went through, good luck with fixing them up. Post up as many pictures as you can.
  3. Looks good. I love the look of the flat fenders on them.
  4. That is just beatiful, I hope mine looks half that good one day
  5. I just got it, ill let ya know how it is after im done watchin it.
  6. Thanks for the replys. I dont have the money or the shop to completely strip down and restore right now. Im only 16 so supplys are limited. Tools and stuff i can always borrow from my boss but i need more than a few tools to restore the truck. Thanks for tellin me about sandblasting the cab because i didnt even think of that. I just want to get the truck in prime so i can start doing body work on it. Rick that cab is beatiful i wish i had a place that i could strip down the truck like that. Im just trying to stop all rust and rot in its tracks right now and have it so its mechanicly sound and the body work is done pretty good then as soon as i can id like to paint it real nice. Thanks Chris
  7. This is the part that scares me. Im preping and painting the truck myself, what do i need to do. I plan on buying a small sand blaster and then I'll clean the truck real good then sand blast it little by little and prime what i sand blasted each day. After i get the whole truck in primer then I'll start painting it (red?). Im putting new glass in it and all new chrome and stuff. I cant wait to get started on it. How does my plan sound? Is there anything that i should do or not do? Any brand of paint to use or stay away from? I want the truck to look good without breaking the bank then later on down the road when the funds allow it I'll re paint it real nice. There is some rot on the truck but from what i saw its fixable. The fenders are a little soft but i think with some braze and bondo they will turn out alright. The cab is also rotted in places but around the windows is solid just under the passenger door is kind of soft. Once i get it home I'll be able to really see how it is.
  8. I was wondering about this myself. Im looking at a truck with pretty much the same specs without a winch and on one side the trunnion is cracked and has been welded before. Its good to hear that its safe to weld.
  9. Almost every service that we do the truck is hot, and not just warm they just came back from a heavy 5 or 600 miles. The top sections are never even being close to full and the bottoms are way overfull. Theres no where for the oil to come back up in any great amounts on the rears. The only place that it can go through is around the shaft and the oils not going to come in the topsection. They say oil level is correct when oil level in the bevel gear housing is slightly below the threads. Is slightly below where you cant reach it with a finger? For the amount of miles these trucks run everyday we cant take a chance on lubrication problems. Oil is a lot cheaper then a tow from delaware or philadelphia because of a blown rear due to lack of oil.
  10. Ofcourse you need to keep adding oil to the top section after the initial fill. Even brand new mack rears leak down from top to bottom so then you end up with an empty top section and power divider and a way over full bottom. If you dont add oil to the tops they will run dry. It doesnt take much, maybe a half gallon every 8 thousand miles or so. We service at 8 and i add about a half gallon to the top and take a half gallon out of the bottom.
  11. I just ordered it. Does anyone here have it? How is it? I figured it will be a cool video to watch and learn from.
  12. Freightrain, it was just a suggestion. Ive drained bottoms that were a gallon or a gallon and half too full. It could just be a bad vent too letting oil out.
  13. Is the bottom section too full? When was the last time you drained out the excess? The top sections like to leak down into the bottom on these rears so the bottoms get too full and leak.
  14. That truck has gone through a lot, its cool that you still use it. Hopefully thats the end of the trucks bad luck and its all uphill from here, well maybe not literally uphill but you know what i mean.
  15. Its in a 64 B 61. I dont plan on working it hard or messin with the pump at all. Just a play truck to pull a trailer everynow and then. They typically run pretty good and start good though? I just want to know as much about the engine before i get it so nothing phases me. Thanks Chris
  16. How are these engines? I dont see much on them. Are they reliable? How about power? The truck im buying has the 711 in it and i was just wonderin how they are. It was rebuilt before it was parked so it should be tight. Is there anything i should do before i fire it up? Its been settin about 8 years since its been started.
  17. 50w synthetic, a little pricey but its what is run in all trans now
  18. Thank you, i cant wait to find out more about it. It should all work out. Its in pretty rough shape now but with a bit of time and work it will be nice. I'll let you know whats going on once i know then i can get some pictures. 64 was the last year of the B right?
  19. Was driving around today and i saw a B model sittin on the side of the road, so me and my dad stopped and looked at it and more then likely the guy wants to sell it. Its a 1964 B61 tandem with a 711 and a triplex. New brakes all around and some other stuff but its been settin for like 7 years so theres a fare share of rust. He told me it ran good when he parked it but he was too busy with his other trucks to restore it. He wanted to restore it but never got a chance so he may get rid of it. He said it will run 65-70 mph which is pretty good. It could be a nice truck. I wish i had a camera when i was out there. Chris
  20. Well good luck with the savings and welcome to the site. I wish the best for ya trying to convince the wife and all. Chris
  21. I wonder how he mated that trans up to a 5.9. Cool lookin truck though.
  22. Ah that sucks I'll be there sunday. Sellin anything good?
  23. Im from northern jersey. Passaic county. Are you going to the swap meet this weekend at englishtown? I hear theres always some good stuff down there. Chris
  24. the 25 was worth it. you had a hell of a show just watchin all the trucks pull in anyway if your on the way off of rt 9
  25. I guess nobody went. It was awesome. Theres nothin better than seein a tandem do a burnout with the powerdivider locked. All 8 were smokin. Well all you guys in the jersey area should go next year. There were trucks runing 18 seconds in the quarter mile There were single axles running around 15.
