  1. at 18 degrees, that Triplex felt like it was full of tar!!! It was fun anyhow...
  2. Wonder if the hibs would fit my 1988 38K rears? Anyone know for sure?
  3. It is so tough it will sharpen pens too!
  4. Thanks to wise guidance I received from youse (central pa for "you all"), I ordered the rebuild kit for my AD-4... After removal I gave it a bath (I HATE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY CLEANERS!!! GIVE ME SOME PETROLEUM BASED SOLVENT!) Anyway, I digress... Once I got it apart it was not hard to figure out the issue...the check valve had its check missing! It was an orifice! The bracket was cracked at both mounts so I fixed that up...also used large doublers to prevent reoccurance! Everything back together and it works like a champ! My compressor actually shuts off until cut in pressure! The dryer was like this when I got the truck...it is a wonder I didnt wear the compressor out! Lesson here...if your compressor cycles constantly, and you replace the governer to no avail, it is most likely the check valve in the dryer draining the wet tank!!!
  5. Glad you got to spend some time with him at the end...
  6. I had seen a shiny R model pulling a dump whiz by the shop a few times, could never get a close look, well today, when he wizzed by, I grabbed my camera and jumped into my truck and began persuit... I have him in my sights, now just to stalk (get it, corn stalk! HaHa) to his destination! Looks even better up close...it really looks as if it could driven from a truck show! The trailer too! Interior was just as nice... The guy bought the truck new and TAKES care of it! The trailer too, it is over 25 years old and I thought it was a new one! The guy is from Doylestown, some of you fellow PA'ers may know him....He said he had a B model too! I think he works it, just said it was too many miles on this haul (Milton to Doylestown)...I was so giddy I forgot all the specs....287 (300?) and a nine speed OD, camelback...all Mack! It sure was cool to see an old Mack this nice working...
  7. Did Ken have any drawers on? Most men dont let anything come between them and thier kilts! I dont want to picture Ken naked in your barn...
  8. Vlad...when Americans say pissed, that means ANGRY! Pissed-off is another way of saying it...After you get a speeding ticket, you might say "I am pissed off!!" If your buddy wrecks your car, you say "I am pissed at you!!!" If you are in polite society, you say "I am P-O'd!" (pee owed) They will understand! We have a new engineer at work from India...during a meeting I said something about needing to "beef" something up (make it stronger), she came up to me later and wanted to know what cows had to do with it!
  9. Seen an Amish road train, on steel no less!...glad he turned! Don't think that mess would have gotten by me! Saw some fallen leaves... Saw a snake...he looks pissed Saw a truck being unloaded the hard way... Saw a new compressor in my shop!
  10. Passed my Class A CDL written test today and am the proud holder of a Class A CDL learners permit! Now I just need to figure out how to get some time pulling/backing a trailer!!!
  11. Got ambitious today, been thinking about this for a while...the exhaust needs bracing (dont like the x brackets) and I need a place to hang a few lights... All that is left is a couple of more holes and paint... Mock up Machining the end plates Ready to weld Made a nifty little punch and insert to guarantee to drill in the center (can be used with any size hole, just have to whip up a new insert Viola!
  12. Thanks for all the input...I'll get the best price for an AD-9, weigh it against rebuilding the AD-4... Curious, I assume the second wire is ground? I can just run a short jumper to the frame?
  13. Just got back from a nice long ride, I left the control line off of teh dryer and the air system performed like it should...I have never seen the air below 130 before now! It goes down to cut-in pressure and fill's her back up! WIll either get a rebuild kit or replace with a reman AD-9...anyone got any experience with the swap? Or insight on how the AD-9 is different than the -4?
  14. Already have a nice air hookup to the wet tank...it is how I get it out of the shop quicker! Air it up and go!
  15. Wow! THat is cool! Wonder how much he is asking?!? I wonder if Mike is on his way to get it!!!
  16. Had another thought (my brain is getting me closer, albeit very slowly!)...the reason it seems to me like the compressor is not unloading is that I never see a drop on either gauge, WELL, if all my check valves are working, I would never see a drop in the WET TANK! VIOLA! I think I understand! I still dont know where the air is going to drain the wet tank, but I believe I have found the issue!
  17. Had to re-read a few times to get it (maybe I got it!)...anyhow, I downloaded the manual for the AD4...the test for the check valve involves removing and capping the control line to the govenor and monitoring the wet tank pressure...was not real clear on what I was supposed to be observing with an external guage, BUT...without the control line hooked up, the compressor builds to 140 and stops, the if I fan off about 10 lbs, nothing happens just like it supposed to, fan off a little more and the compressor kicks in and builds up like it should. SO...the problem is definitely the dryer, will read more and try to figure it out...Thanks for all the comments...I am half way there!
  18. Tru-Flo 501...will call the dealer tomorrow! SOunds like a weekend project...my weekend started today...no more Fridays (and not many Thursday for that matter!) for me the rest of the year!
  19. I was thinking that myself, that the unloader was leaking/sticking...what type of compressor is yours and what was the part number for the kit?
  20. I dont know if its "right" or not. but I like it! I will probably add a 3 foot section of open grid deck cover...I really like the working truck look...
