remember if you are going to block the radiator with cardboard ; do it slowly. have seen a cardboard thrown in front of a running radiator because "it was cool to see it stick there" . the quick negative draw will bend a fan blade into the radiator. more with  the plastic fans then the older metal ones.

AI don't think a 61 B model is going to have that kind of a fan problem, how about when the shutters are shut in cooler weather?   terry:MackLogo:

the idler on side mounts was usually  there to set the pto in opposite  rotation.

On all the the older ones triplexes and so, the countershaft gear was so small it need that idler gear to reach it. and then most pumps had two stubs to hook your shaft to for what direction you needed to go.    terry:MackLogo:

early rear mounts had a shaft out similar to the floating axles . always mounted on the bottom counter shaft ; allowing  oil to flow through  and the lower counter shaft had a hole in the middle with splines for the PTO shaft to mesh with. very simple install, no shims /spacers or backlash setting like the old side mounts. only thing that had to be done (with extreme caution) was to slightly pull the countershaft  out ;it was tapered and turn it 180 degrees. too far and the internal shims fell off shaft and someone's ass was grass.

Yeah i wasn't sure if the shaft had a slot or splined.   terry:MackLogo: I have shimmed alot of side pto's shim the idler gear to the trans then take off and shim to the pto then assemble!

I got ahold of Norman and he said he would look and see if he has one. He will look for a couple other parts that I need but said that he doesn't have much left anymore. Lost much of it to a fire. Thanks for the heads up Bob. Really enjoyed talking to Norman. Really nice guy.

Did he lose many of his trucks?   terry:MackLogo:

can you unhook it at the injection pump and put a drill on it and spin it to see if the tach head works?  you will need to be sure the cable is pushed all the way into the sheath, so you may only have a nub to chuck in the drill..  jojo

What pumps have the tach drive on them, i thought all the earlier mack engine tachs  were driven off the acc. drive shaft?      terry:MackLogo:
