I imagine that one of the big problems is that the seller has an idea of the profit he wants to make and won't budge. There are many folks on this site that know the real value of a part or complete truck. I was told once that I paid too much for my B Model - but it was exactly what I wanted, and I have no regrets. There is a guy not too far from me that is cleaning out his parents business that has a lot of B Model stuff laying around. I stopped to talk to him and offered to post items to help him make money, but also save what could be used. He made it clear that he would rather scrap it than deal with people that want to argue about prices, or don't show up at all. And as many of us have witnessed before, the complete trucks are going to be "restored someday". I know on my last truck I contacted trusted friends and got good ideas on pricing. In the end I ended paying a little more than I had planned, but it was a truck I really wanted.

Can anyone tell me what the normal operating temperature should be for a 1985 R Model with an Allison Automatic Transmission? Mine is running about 200 degrees. Thanks in advance, Mark

I have a 1985 R Model Chassis with a rescue truck body on it. When the truck is first started the amp meter shows 12V and stays that way until the engine hits 1500 rpm. After that the meter shows 14V with no problems. The original owner told me that the truck was this way from new. Is this normal? If not, any suggestions on what to look for to correct the issue? They did not replace it.

To answer a few questions: Engine is a EM6-285 with a Allison HT740D Transmission and 4.25 Rear. The body is a Swab out of Elizabethville, Pennsylvania. The truck was owned the entire time by the Willingboro Fire Company and they have allowed me to keep the lettering on it. An interesting feature is it has a walk through cab into the interior body compartment. NYFD had some and they liked the idea. If you look closely at the front left corner of the body behind the light bar there is a window A/C unit installed - from the factory. It has a 12KW Onan generator and a complete, and still full, air cascade system including the fragmentation container. I did get the truck from bidding on GovDeals. I purchased this 1985 R Model with Swab body last week. Has less that 22k miles and is very clean.

The museum offers the best information as far as I know of. I'm sure someone on here has the same motor and can help identify what you need. Presently there is a Mack motor and transmission on EBay for $350.00 but it is located on the west coast I think. Firemack can also provide a lot of information as he ran the project to restore a B Model pumper.
