  1. Yep. Clutches, brakes, tires and oils have come a long ways. As far as Clutches go, the only thing I ever really see go bad on the ceramic button clutches is the hub damper springs eventually just wear out and break. The clutches facing material and plate surfaces hold up extremely well and dont really ever seem to wear out unless really abused. The Eaton EZ pedal clutches are hard to beat.
  2. Right. I should mention we were doing this with trucks we were sled pulling with. I also was mentioning this as more of an update to get away from the deep dish flywheel and lug setup more than anything else. Not necessarily rating. Yes the 14" organic definitely hold up fine in the lower horsepower applications and definitely depends on operator. No doubt about that.
  3. I gotcha. It was just something I was curious about. Several years ago we did it on a Bigcam. We took a flat flywheel from an n14 and did the 15.5 EZ pedal 2050. Someone said you can do it on an E6 from an E7, but I had never did it so I was curious. I appreciate any info on that if you find out.
  4. Larry, I have a question. Seeing how you're upgrading transmissions and probably going to a new driveline, does a the newer style flat flywheel from an E7 with the bigger center to use a 15.5" EZ pedal clutch and eliminatingthe dog style deep dish flywheellike yours? I haven't personally done that but i heard its an option for an E6. Your flywheel looks great, I was just curious if anyone knew if thats an option.
  5. Joey, I recently did kingpin on one of my MH cabover Mack with 12k steer axle. The new kit i got from mack had the pre-sized steel bushings with the nylon material instead of the solid bronze bushings that you reamer to size. Whats your thoughts on those? Personally I've always liked the solid bronze and reamer to size but the nylon style did go in easy and no reamer necessary. Not sure how I feel on that.
  6. You must live in a bad area. Where i live there's a kenworth factory and a steel mill operating within about 60 miles of each other pumping out production all day everyday. So no, ALL the jobs aren't in Mexico. Theres alot of them but we still have plenty here if you want to actually work.
  7. Nice!!!
  8. I think i can really enjoy a thread like this one because we dont have to stick to a certain thing and step on a person's thread. Ive got enough shop projects to last me 2 lifetimes I think, but I just keep rotating on them getting a little done at a time while simultaneously working them in with keeping up on trucking and repair and maintaining my everyday truck. But I wouldn't trade it for anything.
  9. Exactly!!! (Ive had to tell my wife this on occasion)
  10. Thanks Joey. Its a 1995 with a 3406E Cat and 13 speed. Kinda rare as thats towards the end of production and especially with an E model Caterpillar.
  11. Luckily Kenworth was still able to locate one. I wasn't excited about the price, but glad to get it fixed. Made a new linkage rod too while I was in there. Old was pretty well worn out. Shes back up and going now!
  12. Here was a project I had the other day. The K100 broke the clutch lever when I was going to pull it in the shop. The old cast aluminum lever finally gave up.
  13. I dont know how i missed this thread, but I like it!!!

  15. I remember when Brett was building that truck. Its originally a V-MAC electronic E7 350. They had a Blixton module and bigger injectors but I believe they were having timing issues with getting the VMAC 350 programming to run right with the 15:3 pistons. They then converted over to a fully manual p7100 pump and finally got it to run correctly last i heard. Thats been a few years ago so it would be interesting to see how that setup is holding up.
  16. Ill say one thing, the fact that mack used fire rings the way they did and nobody else really did it the way Mack did, I've always liked Mack for that. Definitely takes some of the worry out of head gaskets....as long as liner protrusion and deck and head flatness is near perfect. Rochester Diesel Definitely knows how to build a good flowing P7100, so pump, injectors and turbo will be the easy part. Timing you'll have to play with to get it right in my opinion since you're going full mechanical. Also, a nice full-tilt exhaust manifold is a nice addition to a project like this.
  17. Paul, I was reading up on the MP10. I didn't realize it was basically the Volvo D16 with a few differences. Do you guys run much Volvo trucks over there in Australia?
  18. From what I understand, a E7 with stage 2 or 2.5 injectors, the low compression 240GC2248 15:3.1 pistons, 454GC5142 camshaft and s475 171702 Borg Warner turbo from a 60 series Detroit. Also, the heads Pyromet valves and seats. Thats the recipe a friend of mine used and it runs really well, but its only got about a year of running on it so time will tell how well it holds up. I have not personally tried this, but im in the process of building a E7 Vmac with these specs.
  19. Thats something I have not investigated, but anyone know the reason they dropped the MP10? I heard they had some issues, but like any new platform, its bound to happen and it can be addressed and re engineered as time goes on. Im curious why they decided to can the MP10.
  20. Remember the days of 300,000-400,000 mile rod and main roll ins on mechanical BigCams and 3406 A and B models? I do and I don't miss it. On a properly tuned electronic engine its nothing to do 800,000 to 1 million plus with original bearings. Hard to beat that I say.
  21. The only other factory mechanical engines in truck on-road applications i can think of with a factory hp rating of 500 or more is a Caterpillar 3408DTI and of course the E9 500. Nowadays I would never go from a mechanical to mechanical or electronic to mechanical as a swap. The pre emission electronic engines are so much more efficient and the torque range is alot better. Mid 90s to early 2000s 12.7/ 14L 60 series and 3406E/c15 are the only way id go on any swap Nowadays.
  22. If you're thinking of doing a swap like that for reliability and power, a 3406E/C15 is about the best swap there is. Harnesses are readily available from Kustom Truck in Coos Bay, Oregon. We've done several ISX, Paccar and other mechanical engine swaps for the 3406E/C15 conversion and the results are great. I guess it just depends on what kind of money you're looking to spend.
  23. Right. I use alot of Cat parts because its mainly what I run and I've seen several parts with China stamped on them. Eventhough i dont like that, I also know that those parts are supposed to made to the OEM specs and standards. So far I cant say I've have any issues. Eaton is the same. Alot of India, China, other countries stamped on their gears and various other parts. I know it doesn't always mean its better but I just like seeing Made in USA but we dont see that very often anymore obviously.
  24. Ive heard that there's quite of bit of Mack O.E. stuff is just PAI rebadged as Mack. I cant say I've seen it personally yet, but it does make you wonder.
