  1. MID 136 is ABS. You can search for Bendix or Wabco fault codes on the internet to see what you have. If you don't show a fault in the cluster they are probably inactive.
  2. I also enjoyed that line. Saw a few guys I know at engine drop.
  3. Press Information – AB Volvo The Volvo Group’s Japanese truck company Nissan Diesel Motor Co., Ltd. is being renamed UD Trucks Corporation. In conjunction with the name change, the Nissan Diesel brand will also be changed to UD Trucks and a new logotype will be developed. The designation UD stands for Ultimate Dependability and is also the brand under which Nissan Diesel trucks were formerly sold. The change of name and the new brand will become effective from February 1. Nissan Diesel is the market leader in Japan in terms of fuel efficiency, an achievement that has benefited the company following Japan’s introduction of an environmental discount for fuel-efficient trucks – the first country in the world to do so. This discount, combined with Nissan Diesel’s extensive range of fuel-efficient trucks, has resulted in increased market shares. In 2009, the company had about a quarter of the Japanese market for heavy trucks. Through the joint-venture with Chinese Dongfeng Motor Corporation, DND, Nissan Diesel also has established production and sales of heavy trucks in the large and expansive Chinese market. Nissan Diesel was formed in 1935 under the name Nihon Diesel Industries. Over the course of its history, the company’s business has developed under the name Nissan Diesel using UD as the product brand. January 26, 2010
  4. Your truck may need to go to the dealer. Check your VIN with your dealer. I attached an older copy of the bulletin. SC342_edit.pdf
  5. In a move to improve the competitiveness and overall industrial efficiency of Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE), the company has decided to consolidate its North American industrial operations by removing excess industrial capacity in the Americas. As a result, the company’s Asheville, NC, USA manufacturing facility will stop its activities by 31st March 2010. The closing will affect 228 employees. Volvo CE will incur an estimated restructuring cost of 100 MSEK (16 MUSD), which will be recorded mainly in the fourth quarter of 2009. The production from Asheville will be moved to other existing Volvo CE locations while at the same time ensuring uninterrupted supply to our North American dealers and customers. The manufacturing of wheel loaders will move to Arvika, Sweden; excavators will be produced in Changwon, South Korea and Cabs for motor graders will be moved to Shippensburg, PA, USA. “Although the decision was necessary from a business standpoint, we fully understand that the affected employees – who in the current downturn are already going through challenging times – will face additional difficulties,” said Patrick Olney, Executive VP, Global Operations. “We will do what we can to help our employees through the transition.” “Volvo CE’s commitment to the US market remains strong,” said Olof Persson, President and CEO of Volvo Construction Equipment, “This decision has no impact on the ongoing significant investments in Shippensburg, PA, USA, where the Volvo CE plant is being expanded to receive the motor grader production and the manufacturing of grader cabs.” A small number of employees from the Asheville plant will be offered positions in the company’s Shippensburg, PA manufacturing operation. Employment opportunities in other North American Volvo Group companies will also be investigated.
  6. I general getting parts is difficult at this time. I know the plants are short parts for production. A few weeks back we were short on fuel tanks, hoods, and wheels to name a few parts. It is taking longer to get parts from suppliers for production and service.
  7. I try my hardest to keep Volvo from destroying Mack. But it appears I have failed.

  9. August 2009 Class 8 sales Brand--Aug 09---YTD Int-------1855-----16845 Ftl-------1870-----15301 Pete------1255----7421 KW-------918------6747 Mack------533-----4398 Volvo-----435------4365 Stering---237------2565 WS--------48-------457 Amazing how much market share Mack has lost. (Numbers from Heavy Duty Trucking Magazine.)
  10. To improve profitability and efficiency in the Volvo Group’s North American truck operation, Mack Trucks and Volvo Trucks North America will be merged into a single organization, North American Trucks (NAT), under the leadership of Dennis Slagle, currently President of Mack Trucks. Per Carlsson, who currently serves as President of Volvo Trucks North America, will assume the position of Chief Operating Officer in the new organization and will report directly to Dennis Slagle. At the same time, Volvo Powertrain and Volvo 3P in North America will be more closely linked to the North American organization through dual reporting of their North American leaders to Dennis Slagle and their global leadership. To further enhance coordination, the other business units in North America will be more closely aligned to North American Trucks. The new organization will continue to operate two separate sales organizations and work with two separate and distinct brands. A key reason for the restructuring measures is the need to more closely align goals across the North American operations, and enhance the capability to rapidly implement approved decisions. “To achieve sustainable profitability at acceptable levels, we are now moving forward with the integration of our North American truck business,” says CEO Leif Johansson. “The new organization will speed decision-making and significantly improve the operational steering of sales and products, while allowing us to maintain our focus on global product platforms.” The new management organization will be effective from November 1, 2009, and financial reporting will be based on the new structure as of January 1, 2010.
  11. On a positive note the CXU and CHU are now being built in Macungie. It's odd for me to see sleepers and roof fairings going down the line.
  12. Morning Call Here's a little something from the other side. Get a load of a going away cake. Pictures made it to Sweden, and they were not happy.
  13. It means that either the disconnect switch was turned off while the key was on, or the batteries were disconnected with the key on, the code can be cleared and should not appear on the next key on.
  14. I love the passion and I have it too. But the daily grind wears on me. The things I see and hear every day bring me more to the realization that Mack has no future in the Volvo organization. (I even wonder if Volvo has a future in America) Volvo will continue to make one bad decision after another just to save face. Despite that I am trying to do everything I can to get a job that will remain in Allentown (for now). The grand opening ceremony in Greenzero is being held 9/3/09. They say they are celebrating the brand, but I don't see it that way. The Mack brand will have around 60 employees in Greenzero. That seems hardly enough to remain competitive in the trucking industry. Allentown WHQ is 250,000 sq ft. Greenzero HQ is 20,000 sq ft and they don't even get the whole building. Everyone else works for Volvo. Who do you think is going to play second fiddle now? I am sure the post move population of employees in Greenzero will equal the number of employees in Greenzero prior the announcement. In the end all Volvo will have done is get rid of hundreds even thousands of years of trucking knowledge. In my department the 25 people left have well over 500 combined years of experience in trucking. In Greenzero the 60 people they have barely reaches 300. Quite a few employees have been there 2 years or less. As time goes on the problem will be there are no Mack employees. Volvo people will be put into Mack positions and will not be making the right decisions for Mack they will be thinking about Volvo. Most people are choosing not to move for one reason or another. But behind all the reasons is they cannot trust Volvo. Despite all this I still stand behind the Mack truck and am proud to work for Mack. To quote many wise men on this site "F#@k Volvo".
  15. They moved the bulldog from the front of WHQ with no ceremony. Most employees didn't even know. Iconic Mack bulldog statue at company's Allentown headquarters is headed to Greensboro, N.C.
  16. People in Allentown have always said volvo knows what the customer wants better then the customer. The Mack options have decreased over the years that volvo has owned us. High rise sleepers, fairings, Wabco ABS to list a few. In reality volvo wants Mack out of the highway market. This is despite Mack being number one in the daycab makert prior to volvo. International's got to be smelling blood.
  17. One of the key market segments for the VT series – high horsepower owner operators – has contracted rather than grown as we had expected. We’ve decided to focus our efforts on the VN series, our highest-volume offering, where we have the biggest impact in this market. Our VN line includes nine models that continue to be popular with owner-operators because of their performance, reliability, fuel economy, comfort, safety and resale value. Volvo also has an advantage in that – unlike some of our competitors – our 16L engine will be fully ready for EPA’10. While no new orders for the VT series will be accepted, any trucks currently on order will be built at our New River Valley plant through Dec. 31, 2009. And as we do with all of our legacy products, VTNA and its dealers will continue to support the approximately 900 VT series trucks in service today. This was a difficult decision, because the VT product line represented excellence in the heavy-haul trucking market – what Volvo is all about. Looking ahead, I’m confident that our VN series will fill the gap and allow us to continue serving a wide range of transportation needs in the North American market.
  18. More on the Bulldog. I hear they are going to have a ceremony when they remove one of the other bulldogs. http://blogs.mcall.com/bill_white/2009/07/...going-gone.html http://blogs.mcall.com/bill_white/2009/07/...ack-trucks.html
  19. It is so sad and depressing. The Volvo people have no respect and understanding for the heritage of the Mack brand. These pictures were circulating around work. Dog Gone
  20. There's a Granite in the new Transformers movie. Mixmaster is a Decepticon (villan). It's in a few scenes.
