  1. I think your right HK trucking

besides the range selctor transmissions i.e T200 sieres that had the syncro pack for the range selection. I dont know of a synchromesh trans that is MACK mfg. alot of the trucks mfgs made over seas do have car transmissions i.e syncromesh ....LOL

Ok, let me see if I have this right.

Synchromesh means that each gear has a synchronizer that brings the countershaft up to speed before the dog teeth engage the gear right?

  2. I wonder if any of you guys have a problem like this:

My wife (who dislikes my Mack trucks) and who has stood by me through good and bad times, who has helped me plan and build my first auto body shop, and was there to help erect the new 12,000 sq. ft shop, has recently discovered through our life insurance agent that I'm now worth more dead than alive!! Although she has threatened to kill me for 20+ years, I now have a little more to be concerned with knowing she is "armed" with this information. I wonder how I will sleep tonight.......

    Rob

Um.... I hope your jokin Rob  ! Its funny how life insurance policies can go up to a million bucks (maybe even more). Think of it if you made 50k a year and had a 1mil policy it would be worth 20 years of work!

I was watching this program on TV once and this woman slowly poisoned her husband and killed him. She collected the 375,000 or so dollars and became so greedy she started to slowly poison her own son too! They caught her after they found out she was using cupric cyanide she stole from her place of work (plating company) when they tested her husbands exhumed corpse. Some real sick f**ked up people in this world.

  3. I remember reading about this on Macks Australian site. It has as cummins signature 620 in it. Another world record pull was done (forget when) with a 610HP E9 Tian. Once the MP10 comes out, its a wrap. MP10 Macks will out pull anything on the road. Too bad it not a 100% mack design though.

LOL wonder how long it took for the spring brakes on all the trailers to come off  . Imagine if the tanks on all the trailers were empty and how long it would take to charge em all  .

Don't know if you have seen this, but this is what some guys get up too when they have nothing better to do.

Aw I wouldent say that, it was a cancer fund raiser. Looks like tons of fun though

  4. I know this is going to sound like a stupid question to all you veteran mack owners but I'm just a newbie on owning one. I have a 300 e-6 , how do you tell if it's a 2 or 4 valve. Don't pick on me too bad. Lol. Aww go ahead I've got broad shoulders , I can take it. Lol. :pat:

Welcome aboard Greg! You will find we are all quite friendly so you dont have to worry bout being a total n00b :D

Go to this topic I started a while back. You might find the info you need there.

As a quick note, someone said all the 4 valve heads had front mounted after coolers, the 2 valve had the side mounted after cooler. Might be wrong but read up anyways.

  5. Thanks guys!

I was looking at some air brake diagrams and at the function of the trailer valve on the bendix site. When you push the yellow knob in you not only supply air to the spring brakes but also send air to the control port on the trailer valve. Without the control signal the trailer valve pops out. The blue knob is downstream the park valve and trailer valve. It lets you park the tractor while keeping the control port on the trailer valve supplied allowing you to keep the trailer charged.

Here is a little diagram I pulled from a bendix diagram. I labeld and colored the valves according to the dash knob color.

  6. We have a factory installed Jacobs-brand Jake Brake on our '90 CH613 with a E6-350, and it's absolutely useless. It barely even slows the truck down while bobtailing. The local dealer said that's probably about all it was good for when it was new.

    www.stlouisdumptrucks.com

On a international 4300 i drove at the international truck tour they had a 3 stage jake brake on the dt466. it was STRONG! On the 3rd setting and let off the gas it nearly threw me thourh the wind sheild! The system has a bleeder brake in combination with an exhaust brake. The cat powerd 7600 had a jake and it was very strong. I guess it depends. Must stop drinking.

  7. I was reading the topic showdog started and looked over Macks current transmission lineup.

Has anyone had any experience with the newer 8, 9 and 10 speeds? They look more for off highway/concrete pouring. Some seem very close to the older 10's and 12's where you split each gear. The TM309M Looks like it could give you 12 foward gears and 6 reverse gears. Why you can only split 1,2&3 is beyond me.

I like the unusual shift patterns of them:

    TM308ML

    T310MLR

    TM309M

  8. I think ALOT of water would have to be sucked thru to get thru the entire filter element and create any kind of trouble....or help.

I think the moisture would drip thru the element, then drop out the weep hole in bottom of housing. If I remember right, most of the newer trucks have a rubber one way that allows water out, and keeps from sucking air in.

The snorkel on the Macks are about 10 feet off the ground.

    Here is a Titan diagram:

  9. Just thought about it and figured out a formula thats more strait foward.

    ((e/(t*r))/m)*60

    e = Engine RPM

t = Transmission gear ratio (can be any gear so you can see speeds for each at specific RPM)

    r = Rear end ratio

m = Revolutions needed for tire to travel one mile

    * mean multiply and / means divide in case anyone wanted to know.

This formula determins the distance traveld in one minute, we multiply that by 60 to get MPH.

    MPH*1.6=KPH

To get r use the tire rev formula:

    (5280*12)/(TireDiameter*3.14)

Tire diameter has to be in inches to work in the above formula.

    Have fun :D

  10. What are those snorkels you see on air cleaners for, are they for looks or do they actually have a real purpose.

I am trying to cut the noise level down inside my R-model and was wondering where I could get some sort of sound/heat deadening material.

The snorkel is used to keep the air intake higher off the ground where dust and dirt get kicked up. They are installed on allot of trucks in Australia because the dry dusty dirt roads of the outback will make short work of an airfilter. Some people might install em for looks too.

As for the sound deadening try these two sites:

    http://www.soundown.com/AI.htm

    http://www.b-quiet.com

Dale has a B-67 with sound down and he says its very quiet in the cab.

  11. okay and mack transmission 18 speed is 0.71

    http://www.mackcanada.com/assets/mack/prod...318l1361320.pdf

go with transmisson mack...because a need little bit more speed!!!

    tire is 420

Ok your tire does 420 revs per mile? You must have 12.00R24 tires then. At a .71 ratio in top gear you will have a 1500/(.71*5.02)=420.85 tire revs. So at (420.85/420)*60=60.12 MPH, then your set! Your 8LL must be a direct, 2100/5.02=418.32 which is almost 420. At 2100 rpm with a .71 over your going to be able to do about 84mph :D

  12. with my transmission 8LL eaton with axles ratio 5.02 :( top speed 60 mph :( 2100 rpm (not econo$$$$)

I want put 18 speed eaton!!!

is what calculation, to know the top speed my truck with 18 speed

i want 60 mph 1500 rpm around for max econo diesel

More gears does not equal more speed. It all depends on top gear ratio if its a direct or over drive gear. If you know the diameter of your tires you can find the gear ratio you need by doing the following:

Take the diameter of your tire (in inches) and plug it into the following equation (5280*12)/(tiredia*3.14) and that will give you the number of revolutions the tire needs to make each mile. So for lets say an 11r22.5 with a dia of about 42 inches we would do (5280*12)/(42*3.14)=480.2 revs per mile. So to go 60 miles per hour the tire has to turn 28,812 times. That works out nicely because we need the tire to spin at 480.2 RPM to go that fast. now with your engine turning at 1500rpm we divide 1500/480.2 which gives us an overall reduction of 3.12. Then divide 5.02 which is your rear ratio by 3.12 which is 1.6 and invert it (1.6^-1) which is .625 the over drive ratio you need in the tranny. Your drive shaft has to spin at 1500*.625=937.5 RPM

So after that math lesson we now know that you need a tranny with at least a .62 overdrive gear with 11R22.5's. If you post your tire size I or someone else can help you. You can find your tire revs per mile buy either measuring it or going to trucktires.com and click search then look for your size tire for all its data.

One more thing, keep in mind the fuller super 18's have a .73 overdrive max. Nothing higher that I can see. So at .73 you have 1500/(.73*5.02)=409.32 tire revs per minute.

  13. Barry,

I cant figure out how to post a picture from my gallery in a topic. Seems a little redundent to have to upload the picture again to show it in a post. Maybe I am missing something but I have been looking all around. Also is it possible to transfer an attachment file from a post to a gallery without uploading it again?

  14. Don't you just love your law enforcement professionals?

Remember they don't always become cops to protect us. They like their gun, badge and the power it gives them. Busting balls is what those types eat, sleep and breath.

Good to hear you got through that ordeal. Dump cop saw an old looking truck and thought he hit the jackpot to meet his ticket quota. Little did he know the quality of a well kept :mack1::D .

  15. Ya'll are going to hate me for this, but I have an mp3/Cd player in my superliner with a sub behind the pass seat. I also have an indash DVD player. With my two straight 6" pipes, you can't hear the radio too well when you aren't in overdrive, lol. But like Superdog said, "Who needs a radio when you have all that beautiful music coming out of the stack?"

Ah the old guys never get us young'ns lol.

Nothing like the sound of a diesel but sometimes you need a change. Besides you can torture everyone around you with not only strait pipes while rolling but what ever god awful music your playing while stopped lol. Some of the stuff I listen to would clear out a foot ball stadium in 10 seconds flat. They would then come back with with torches, pitchfork and a preist to exorcise the cd player :D .

  16. Darn straight, Rsmartyn! I think I may just leave her set the way she is because she has been darn good to me, and I don't need to be setting any speed records. Hell, the truck is 36 years old and it has never left me setting along side the road for many, many years now, so I don't have anything to complain about! I try to run the backroads as much as I can and that seems to work well for me. And your right, she sure does sip the fuel compared to the new trucks. So I think I'll leave her where she is set rather than risk melting some pistons down..

If it aint broke, dont fix it!

  17. Was driving by the scrapyard located outside the corn processing plant I was hauling into today, and I spotted something very familiar load on a trailer waiting to get inside the gate,a B model cab.I hit the shoulder and ran over to check it out.The hood, headlight panels, floor panels, fender inners and tops were all inside he cab.It all was really nice shape, gutted for sandblasting, hardly any rust, floor and bottom back of cab solid as a rock, very few dings from loading.Made a quick deal with the guy and the owner of the scrapyard to CAREFULLY unload it.Soon as I got my corn unloaded I hauled ass for home and went back after it.

The Mack Gods were obviously on the ball today, otherwise it would have been gone forever.

Nice find! There should be a law against scrapping old macks!

  18. Thad- I have a big powerful system in my B67- you would like. But FIRST- you have to put in many pounds of Sound Down (or equavalent) marine sound/heat insulation. Mine is 1 1/2" thick outside firewall, 1" thick insode firewall, and all around cab, including ceiling and doors. CD player and CB mount in fabricated ceiling console, big powered sub woofer mounts behind driver sear, small tweeters and midrange speakers mount behind head of driver/pass in the cabin bulkhead, larger woofers mount in kick panel at your feet, righr and left.

You can do this upgrade even in an old Mack- but you must be scrupulous in eliminating noise.

Sounds like you got a real kickin system too :thumb:

My question is how much quieter is your B cab now then it was originally? I used to drive this POS isuzu NPR and man it was loud, talking to the passanger gave you a sore throat. Radio was useless at highway speeds.

  19. In my superdog i have an awesome system i put 2 regular 6" speakers in the original speaker spots and then i added two subs in between the seats and then put 6"x9" speackers in the bottom corners of the back of the cab.

    Chad

    Sweet!

That setup must sound nice. Are the subs one of those bazooka tubes with the two subs on each side? And does the radio in a newer R cab have the older shaft style mount or can you put in a more modern DIN style radio? I would put in an mp3 cd radio.

  20. There's a topic Thad started about CDL licenses where I posted a funny NJ DMV stop that happened to me a few years ago and I thought that that could be a good topic on it's own. I have 3 memorable ones that were good but I bet there's plenty of stories out there better than mine. So repeating that post here goes. About 4 years ago I was pulled over at a NJ DMV smoke check stop with the DM686. The trooper there took my paperwork while a Pakistani or Indian or somethin' DMV guy was tellin' me (in broken English that I couldn't understand) to get out of the truck with the parking brake off. When I finally figured out what he was sayin' I told him I was not gettin' out of the truck with the brake off and then the trooper came back. He handed me my stuff and told me to go. Then he started yellin' at the Pakistani, Indian or whatever DMV guy tellin' him that I was the third Pollack he pulled over in an hour and what is it with him pickin' on the Pollacks. I started laughin' but then he turned to me and said "Didn't I Tell You To Get Out Of Here?!" So I did with a smile. :) I'll save a couple of other funny stories for later, let's hear some of yours. :thumb:

LOL good one (Im Polish too).

After I got my licence I had to do a delivery so I took the LIE (i495) out east. Well I figure that since I am in a van with passenger plates and with another passenger I thought I was golden to go in the HOV lane. Well I get pulled over by the nicest highway patrolman I have ever herd of. He told me that I needed another row of seats in the van to comply and other information. I get the ticket and find the violation number was wrong. Took it to court and it was thrown out. Lucky me.
