  1. Thanks for the info guys.

Too bad it doesent have the 866 325/375. Nothing says there no room for an E9 in there.

Here is another what I think is a 700 of some sort. Although it is the same picture and description used for three different listings:

  2. This truck is in remarkable condition. It is rust free, there are only minor issues with the hood, all easy repairs. With the exception of the floor mats, and a torn drivers seat the interior is also in excellent condition. It even has the optional sliding rear window. Now, as for plans, at the risk of offending someone, I have no intention of restoring this truck to it's original condition. I don't want to haul logs, I have well in excess of 2,000,000 miles of seat time in my own trucks and I don't want to go anywhere. However, I do so like to Dump Truck, and this Bull Puppy is going back to work, with fresh paint, and a new dump body. The Freightliner had a Big Cam 3 350, a 12513, and a 433 single axle Rockwell. You have to remember that I drove this truck back from Eugene, Oregon to my home in Morganton Ga. 3080 miles in three and a half days. It ran well, used no oil, gave me no trouble. The transmission is a typical 12513, noisy in overdrive. I bought this truck for less than the price of an engine. I also gained a new National seat, correct color, new AC compressor, an air drier, remote mirror, Just a whole bunch of good stuff. I set the engine in the RS700, along with a new soft pedal clutch, this past Friday. I hope to be able to drive it by tomorrow afternoon. If the rest of the running gear checks out good, I need to shorten the wheel base by 14 inches and convert the Hendrickson Pad suspension to an extended leaf. Then on to the paint booth. If you still want a 12513, I am not going to use this one

    Hey Bollweevil,

Whats the progress on that old rs700? Interested to see it with the new engine and dump body. Did you cut the frame or move the tandems? Should get some pictures up!

  3. The RS700 was built in Hayward,CA,the R700 was built in PA.The RS had an aluminum grille, straight rail frame, and usually alot more aluminum components than a straight R700,and it was also available as a RL with an aluminum frame.

    The ENDT866 was 375 hp,ENDT865 was 325 hp,END864 was 255 hp.Just a wild guess,but I'd say the truck probably had a 865 and has been replaced with a 864,doesn't look like it has a turbo to me either.The 864 was available at 325 hp,but it had twin turbo's.

    same length hood though correct?

  4. I have seen this truck on truck paper for a while alreay and was wondering whats the difference between the R700 and the RS700. Also wasnt the 866 V8 rated at 325 HP and not the 864? The engine looks like a non turbo and I am wondering if 325HP is the correct number. Either I am looking at it wrong or the hood looks shorter then an RS700. Price doesent look too bad since it is a running tri axle tractor cab looks rough though.

  5. Update.. I am checking out a 12v71 from a generator the end of this week...and I have a line on a Allison 740 trans rebuilt..so its looking good to have the parts to swap a 12v71 into my B81SX...If it works out i should be really cool..

    later

    Deo

    sounds good, keep us posted.

  6. I am going to try to make it with a few friends perhaps. Maybe all of us from BMT should have a way to let eachother know we are on BMT (like a small sign next to the truck or some tag or something :D ). Would be a shame to bump into another fellow BMT member that your familar with and not know it :pat: .

Barry you guys going to have the watts mack shirts on sale there?

  7. i'm on the heavy load low boy cargo bussiness...now i'm handling load with a gmc brigadier prime mover fitted with follow configuration

    engine dd 8v71 (318h.p.)

allison ht750drd (23.96-1) on 1, according to allison specs

    dp21 eaton ( 6.17-1)

    275-70-22.5 tires

i will like to explore the posibility to replace this unit with a consolidated m123a1c with the follow configuration

    engine cummins (300 h.p.)

    mack trdx720 ( 12.97-1) at 1 low

    mack end 65,000 rated 10.11-1

    14 x 24 tires

pulling weight always goes over 300,000# of combinated (load + 4 axle + 3 axle boogie all on 12.00 x20)

so far gmc achieve the goal. however component start to worn and a replacement time is comming soon

    so basically the question are:

    1) if m123a1c with clutch will have at least the same capability to take off on hill as gmc

    2) if m123a1c drivetrain will fail (break) under such condition

    3) comparing oshkosh m911 drivetrain (same rear end as my brigadier) with mack m123a1c one..witch one will fail first???

Here is a link to a site from the Vanatta Brothers who have allot of experience with the m123a1c and the oshkosh 911 including problems they encounterd and preformances. They do offroad logging work so they really abuse the trucks. Lots (And I means lots - tons even!) of of good info. http://www.vannattabros.com/truck6.html

    P.S.

The engine is a cummins 903 v8 which I think is still made but with that model you might have issues with finding parts.

  8. Next question.....the current/last driver says the air con is working a bit sad, dirty filter, never been cleaned! hmmmmm, apparently under centre dash I have to remove the cloth section and housing, and in there is a screen likeca radiator......he says this should be hosed out with truck parked uphill and allowed to drip dry over night......is this normal practice?

I would of thought compressed air would be better than water in areas like that??

    Welcome aboard!

Clean the filter and its like new and gets rid of allot of the funky smell that come out when you first turn it on. The system will blow much harder and the ac will work better. If the previous owner was a smoker then definatly change the filter that smell is nausiating  .

Drip dry isnt the best idea as it might allow mold to grow which only adds to the funk (and could make you sick), dry it out fast by compressed air or drying it by hand with paper towles or something.

  9. Funny thing I just read today. In Europe they are using SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) instead of EGR. Thing is you have to have a seperate tank full of this urea solution called AdBlue which is injected into the exhaut line upstream of the After treatment device. The ratio of AdBlue needed is 20:1 so for every 20 gallons of diesel you need 1 gallon of AdBlue. AdBlue is projected to sell for half the price of diesel.

I think the lawmakers behind these crazy (dare I say retarded) laws need to put the crack pipe down and come back to reality. Its easy to make stupid laws like this when its not your money and time getting thrown out the window.

Here is a link to the Euro 5 page

  10. Dammit! does everyone who wants to destroy trucks have to use Macks? Go and relieve the dealers and scrap yards of all the freight shakers, IH's and fords they have. Leave the Macks alone.

  11. That 237 sounds great. Are you sure it will fit in length? I've got a steel nose but think it's same lenght as the tilt hood. The Scania is a great runner right now, just looking to the future. That little 170 hp is handling quite a load as this truck never weighs less than 50,000. Goes anywhere---but slow on the hills.

Yes it should fit. Your gonna get more torque out of a 237 then a 3208. Plus the 237 is more reliable then the 3208 which is prone to crank failure (someone correct me if I am wrong though).

  12. Thad,

Hi...read your post about the R700 you were considering having shipped cross country. I am looking at an old Mack in Colorado and thinking about having it shipped to me in Virginia.

Do you have the contact information for the trucking company that was going to haul your truck? If so, could you pass it along? The guy I'm looking to buy the truck from isn't a dealer or anything and has no contacts out there and I have no idea where to start looking for a carrier!

    Thanks...Jeff

    Hey Jeff,

The dealer gave me that quote so who knows. It does sound a bit pricy but with diesel prices up I guess I can see why.

  13. Here is the new Growler from Mack...talking about the new Pinnacle! Check out the new floormats with paw prints molded in...LOL what will they think of next?

Just checked out the 360 virtual tour of the pinnacle they mentioned. Wow nice interior. Just as a side note your gonna need quicktime to view it. and dont click the high resolution version unless you have some serious hardware and a fast internet connection!

  14. Check out these Australian Macks used in the military! Those 6x6 wreckers look awesome with the steel hood and tall stance. What kind of wrecker body is that? The tanker with the equipment trailer is an interesting combination. Just think how easy the 6x6 wrecker could pull that road train if it ever broke down. If you look at the wrecker closely, the exhaust is right behind the bumper.

  15. 1. NEW TIRES OR RECAPS, WHAT SHOULD I GO WITH ??

Heard recaps are pretty good in terms of reliability. I have seen bandags take a beating on a drag racing truck.

2.PUTTING 22.5'S ON IT, POSSIBLE, NOT WORTH IT FOR WHAT I AM GOING TO DO WITH IT ?? ( I WANT TO STAY STOCK SINCE IT LOOKS SO ORIGINAL ALREADY )

20 are tube type, 22.5 are tubeless. Someone here would probably give you a better idea between the pros and cons of tube vs tubeless

    3. BUYING TIRES ONLINE, BETTER DEAL ON THE NET OR CHECK THE LOCAL DEALERS ? ?

I know a guy who swears by buying tires online. Only way to find out is to shop around.

4.FACTORY WHEELS, KEEP THEM, EVEN THOUGH THE RING ON THEM CAN REMOVE A HAND, OR SWITCH ? ?

If the wheels are in good shape then why replace them? If your going to tubeless 22.5 you are going to need new rims.

    5. AND FINALLY , WHAT THE HECK IS CAMELBACK SUSPENSION ? ? DO I HAVE IT, HOW DO I KNOW IF I DO ? ?

Camel back is Macks own spring suspension. here is a picture to get a better idea:

  16. One thing you can do to trace a leak is get some dish soap mix it with water and put it in a spray or squirt bottle. Then spray it all over the air lines and look for bubbles. Now you dont have to worry bout the engine running, you can see the leak.

  17. Air over hydraulic is simple to understand. Imagine two master cylinders one for the front and one for the rear. Instead of having the foot pedal directly actuate the cylinder there is a piston similar to a brake chamber that operates the master cylinder (that thing is called an air hydraulic intensifier). Its a full air system up until you get to the air hydraulic intensifires. then its just normal hydraulic brakes on the axles. Some mid liners had air over hydraulic on the front axle and regular air s-cam or air disc on the rear. The parking brake I think has a spring chamber on each rear wheel and works like a wedge brake to park it.

With no air in the system the compressor should immediatly start to fill the tanks as there iis no air pressure in the unloader line. Disconnect any lines to the compressor and see if air starts blowing out of one of them while the engine is running. No air means the compressor valves might be bad, or the unloader valve in the compressor is stuck open. I am not 100% sure but the govenor might be mounted to the air dryer. Also check the delivery line from the compressor and the air dryer for clogs.

The euro brake systems are different as they have no wet tank, all accessories are back fed from the primary and secondary brake tanks as well as the trailer supply tank if its a tractor (yup they have a tank just for trailer air and tractor spring brakes). There is a valve manifold mounted to the dryer and it cuts the accessories off once the pressure drops below a set level in the tanks. also the govenor is usually mounted on the air dryer in most newer euro brake systems.
