What are the visual differences on 55k Camelback vs 65k?
Just curious what our retired DM686SX has.
It's a double frame, each rail is 3/8" thick, for a total of 3/4" thick per side. Door doesn't have an axle rating sticker in it. Differentials are not original, we changed them out a few years ago when it ate a bearing to get the truck moving faster than 48 mph.
Did the 65k only go in a triple frame truck? How thick are the triple frame rails?
-
You can always lengthen them.
-
Isn't there an engine tag somewhere on it? Just watched a video of a 4 cylinder Ford diesel in a Gardner Denver looking for something similar to that. Ford sounded a bit like a 2 stroke.
-
Sounds like a nightmare of a ride!

What gear oil are you running in it? Check with Eaton and see what that trans needs, running anything else may cause problems like that.

Im guessing a Mack back end
If so, all drive tyres need to be fairly close to the same size as the power divider on a Mack bogie isnt really a power divider
However I would check and make sure the power divider isnt locked first

We rarely have drive tires all the same size, never have. Never had problems with our Auto or manual power dividers.
Is it Camelback or air ride? If Camelback, did you replace the trunion bar bushings or the elephant pads?
Spoke hubs or bud wheels?
Is this a recent problem or has it been doing it for a while?

Hi guys. New to this site and in need of opinions. I have a 2001 Mack vision 460. I am told the engine is not original as it is a non electrictronic engine. I have fuel leaking from rocker box cover down between #4 #3 heads. When running, I sprayed Beale clean on block to clean it up and find the source of the leak. When I hit the spot between heads, the truck developes a miss and then goes away. Starts good, runs good, no fluids interchang anywhere. Any recommendations here?
Yes. Start your own thread.

That's a wide ratio transmission that won't work with the narrower powerband of a 350.
He's wondering about just juicing up his maxidyne to make it like a 350hp maxidyne, not changing to a different fuel pump.

K I'd get it repaired before it breaks at 60 mph on the highway.

The u joints are supposed to be clocked, if someone had it apart they may have put it together wrong. Joints fight each other if they aren't clocked right.

What's that thing between the seats with the black knob? ls that how they shifted the transmission once-upon-a-time? lol .....Hippy
No it's a magic 8 ball. You shake it and it tells you if they truck is going to move or not.

Bump.
Does anyone have insight on this? Is the MP series fully a Volvo product? Or did Mack have a hand in designing it?
-
Will likely be called Splitter Cylinder or Shift Cylinder on a 12 speed.
Combination Cylinder is what it was called on my 8LL
-
I had a Combination Cylinder crack on my 8LL trans a couple years ago. It's the disc that air pushes against to change from high to low and low to high. Easy part to change. Air would leak through the crack to the vented side. Switch range and it'd still leak, because you're just inverting which side of the disc is pressurized and which is vented. I'll bet thats where you'll find your problem.

Never bring a knife to a tire fight.

Not sure how to add this media to the thread.

Contact locals and see how many you can get to show up to raise hell at the next town meeting. And the meeting after that. And keep on filling the town meetings with angry citizens until you get your way!
It sounds like the start of a great community, solidarity is important for people. Sounds like a neighborhood where families will be very close.
Problem with Virginia is the wind blows Washington DC garbage out to ruin local's dreams.

All R and RD frames I've ever seen splay out wider around the engine and transmission. A good double frame RD should probably take a V8 just fine, but I don't know how much fabricating you'll have to do for engine mounts.
The v8 also makes a lot of heat, i don't think the R model radiator surface area is big enough to keep it cool if you're gonna work it hard. Superliners have that big square hood to hold a big square radiator. Not sure if a superliners cab and hood will bolt right to a Rd frame. Might have to make some parts.

Let me know when you get a cost figured out, may be interested.

Steering pumps usually put out ballpark 700-750 psi if I'm not mistaken. Put a gauge on it, what do you get?
-
What model and year Mack do you have? Is it Camelback?
Rd688S is 44k rear tandem.
Rd688ST is 38k rear tandem.
Rd688SX is 55k rear tandem.

Just reading straight from the torque chart.
If there are 2 different size bolts used on the oil pan I would do the smaller ones 15 and the larger ones 23. On my old 1979 engine it has 2 larger bolts at the back of the engine, and one or two big bolts at the front. I'm not sure what the Etech motors have front and back.

Never bought a new vehicle, but you gotta get quotes from other manufacturers for their truck, and bring it back to Mack. Then go back to other dealer, then back to Mack. Make them compete for your dollar.

Mack has made legendary engines (and trucks) in the past. To what extent is/was Mack involved in engineering of Volvo's Mack engines after Volvo bought them?
Are the MP series engines strictly Volvo engineering? Or did Volvo buy Mack so they could have their engineering departments?
Just curious for future truck needs. I'd feel a little more loyal if there was still some Mack in there.
55k or 65k?

Not sure what you mean by large wheel pattern. This truck is 6 spoke hubs, with 11r24.5 tires. No idea if that's what it's always had, we've had the truck since I was 12 in 2001.
