Coca Cola LJ Mack colors

Yep it’s going to be a winter project for sure,, I can’t stand messy wiring ( I’ve bought a couple trucks that looks like someone stuck a weed eater under the dash! ) But on the bright side with a one wire Alternator the wiring is pretty simple. Which was a small project its self, since it wasn’t belt driven, ( lovejoy coupler ) but works great. -

I got some time today to install the dash and start wiring ( I have no harness at all ). I wired my dash lights and the back of the dash, plan is making a harness from my switch’s to their components , I put a universal fuse box on the inside to feed the switch’s. It’s going to be time consuming ,,,,, -

I actually sent this in to the truck magazine, I worked for Mr Jones, I was his only driver for 3 years. He’s the one that bought the truck from the welding company in 69 , it was still the original colors but faded bad, I tapped it up one Saturday and sprayed it with some left over paint I had painted my race car with. I got the truck from him in about 1982 . I still have the magazine . -

Thank you, sounds great,, Hopefully someone will read our discussion and have a Idea where I could find a LJ / LT manual . It’s the same way on this truck as the wiring and some air lines were cobbled up ,, I imagine a lot of emergency repair on the side of the road,,, Funny part is I remember doing some of them! I ran this truck down I 40 a bunch between Asheville NC and Knoxville TN ( pretty desolate back then) towing for McLean Trucking back to Winston Salem , so I’ve done a few midnight wiring “ Bypass “ repairs . -

I’m going to try to send them a message,, I tried calling a couple months ago and they were still closed. The sent me a Parts build sheet about 10 years ago on it that a lot of the part numbers still change over,, very helpful! I also always wondered if they made a schematic on the air line plumbing? Hopefully I can get in touch with them. -

I was wondering where I could get a diagram, l looked at some pictures of your dash that you posted and the LJ has fewer wires then the B73 , the old harness is long gone, I do have a parts truck that I removed the dash and it will be a good reference, but I would like to have a factory LJ wiring diagram just to keep it as close as possible. I’ll use modern wire and loom because I already bought enough 14 & 10 gauge wiring. Removing the voltage regulator, generator, and the series parallel switch cut a lot of wiring out already. Thank you. -

Hopefully I’ll get some time over the weekend to get back on my dash wiring, ( No Harness at all, was all trash) I’m trying to use as many old switch’s as I can, sense I’m putting it back for the same look it had when I started driving it when I was 18 . The biggest changes I made are Tubeless tires, Alternator, backdrop manifold and Jake Brake. Tom Mahoney is sending me 2 old style Jake Dash switch’s. Hopefully I can get a good start on the wiring, Equipment hauling has been busy ( which is great,, when buying Paint and old Mack parts) -

My 51 LJ had wood between the frame and plate, I took the old U bolts and had new ones made. The wood I put back I cut from decking material. I’m sure if you used it every day the bolts would have to be retighten every now and then.
