  1. Yes this is probably how I am going to spec my truck. I am still going to do a little more research just to be sure i spec it right. I do not want to have to settle or deal with a incorrectly specced truck as i plan on keeping it 10 + years.
  2. Thank you all for your replies. The CHU trucks turn pretty tight for a heavy haul truck. I did some more research and talked to a local oil company today who just got a new Titan and they said the biggest complaint is they do not turn worth a dang. He said they will haul anything you throw at it but for the money he wishes he would have bought a CH and he says he probably will for the next truck as it is almost $80k cheaper… Yes thats right $80k. Needless to say I can not justify spending that kind of money for a truck when I can spec one the same For so much less $. As for Pete's or KW's . I am 6' 7" and I do not have the room in them that I have in the Mack. LOL hard to believe I could say that lol.
  3. I am looking for a new or newer truck. i wish they still made the CL-700 with the Cummins.
  4. Ok I am planning on replacing my current lowboy tractor and trailer and I am also going to branch out and start moving other peoples equipment. I need to be able to scale 125lbs with permits and that requires me to have a third axle on the tractor. I currently have a 2001 CH 613 with that E-7 460 and 13 speed Mack but its only a tandem. I am undecided an which truck I should get. I really love the looks of the Titan and the fact I can get the truck set up from the factory with the 18 speed or the M-drive trans, Third axle and the heavier frame and rears. However I am not sure I need that and I was wondering if I get a properly equipped CHU with a 505 hp MP-8 would i be better off? I am worried about the turning radius of the Titan compared to the CHU. Would the CHU be heavy enough to handle what I plan to throw at it? Should I just get the Titan being its designed for the heavy haulers and be done with it? What are some of your opinions?
  5. I absolutely LOVE the new Titan. It is imo the meanest looking truck on the road. But if I had to choose another It would be an R model.
  6. You must remember the engine"Jake " brake will only work during certain RPMs and if those RPMs drop to low then it will cut out. The key is to downshift to keep the Jake helping the truck to slow down so as to keep the RPMs up. Also you do not want to rely on the engine brake to slow the truck as if for some reason you lose traction with the rear wheels you will lose control. It is always good to use your brakes in conjunction with the engine brake.
  7. Are you sure its an 03? When was the build date? The reason I ask is If they are built in the later part of 03 it may actually be an 04 model truck. I am not sure exactly when Mack starts building the next model year. I may be wrong here though its just a thought.
  8. I neglected to mention that a lot of that lot is filled with oil field equipment and trucks and trailers. Its not a fully wide open 300 acres. Sometimes there are even trucks parked in the middle of the lot. Yes that Hyundai struggles pushing the heavy snow as far as i have to push it at times. It is not an easy lot to plow but after 4 years of plowing it I have figured out tricks.
  9. Great find and good luck with the possible build. Let us know what the Museum has to say about this cab.
  10. That is a really nice truck, I'm jealous you found it first. I would LOVE to have this as it is exactly what I am looking for. It looks to be in great shape and the bed looks to be a decent build, not cheap like some beds you can get. Running air to the back for a trailer would not cost that much to do nor would it be that hard to do yourself. The 4.35 gears should bull pretty good with the 385 and 18 speed. The thing to look at is what the RPM's are at highways speeds, You do not want the engine revved super high running at 65 or even 70 mph. As far as the MP-8 engines being reliable, I haven't heard of anyone having any problems with them.
  11. My 01 Ch613 had the gold dog and it was all Mack. My 01 Rd was not all Mack and it had the Chrome dog. My dads 02 Rd was all Mack and it had the Gold dog.
  12. I'm not sure I would say Cummins is innovating at a snails pace as much as them being slightly years ahead of everyone else most of the time. Yes at the moment everyone has caught up with Cummins but don't be surprised to see cummins come up with something in the next few years. Remember Cummins was 3 years ahead of everyone else when the 07 emissions standards came out and when the 2010 emissions came under law Cummins was already there when everyone else either had to get out of the game ( Cat ) or had to scramble to keep up. Cat is still having trouble meeting emissions on their heavy equipment as is Deere yet Case ( who uses Cummins engines even though they call them Case) and those others using Cummins engines are not having near the issues.
  13. Umm Tupy is where the dreaded Cummins 53 block was made, that was almost a disaster for Cummins.
  14. I'm going to say this is because International is having to many problems with their emissions on their engines. I would not be surprised to see International cut down on production of their engines if not completely faze them out sometime down the road unless they figure something out soon. Just my $.02
  15. I really like the Autocar. It is is really good shape, it just had really big tires on it and I couldn't imagine how rough a ride it would have being a heavy hauler like it is.
  16. I was at our local Erectors yard today grading their lot for them and when I was there I saw three old heavy haulers that I would love to drive. All three of these trucks run and are used on a regular basis, in fact the Cline and the Autocar are going to WV to move a large load next week. I thought these where really cool, I hope you guys like them, sorry for the bad pics but I was sneaking them as I was suppose to be working. [/]
  17. The engine is more than likely a E-6 300 which IMO are one of the best engines Mack has ever made, I learned to drive on my dads 82' rd 686 tandem dump at 14 yrs old that had the duplex 5 speed and the E-6 300 in it. That truck would run and was very reliable, it would still be on the road if it wasn't for the frame rusting around the rear end and my dad decided to get rid of it and get the 01 instead of fixing it. The older Mack transmissions take some time getting use to , they will separate the men from the boys. Good luck with your adventures and I hope you enjoy your new to you truck.
  18. Actually I thought in all states it was 26001lb you needed a cdl. Here in Ohio if your combination equals over 26k lbs then you must have a class A CDL even in a private pickup truck. My neighbor argued this fact with me but when he got pulled over in Columbus and he was over the 26k lbs and they wouldn't let him drive his truck and trailer home he called me wanting me to come get his truck. I should have said no but being the nice guy that I am I got the truck for him.
  19. I have a 2013 Ram 3500 Cummins with the Aisin transmission with such the truck is rated at 850lb tq from the factory. The new trucks have torque management which basically keeps you from breaking the truck, some trucks are worse than others and I seem to be one of the lucky ones who doesn't seem to have the tq management as bad. The 13+ 3500 Ram trucks they did beef up. New frame, front end, suspension trans etc. I do not have that many miles on it yet so I do no know how much better the longevity of the parts are compared to the older models. I had a n 07 3500 with the 5.9 cummins and build wise the 13 is way way better of a truck. Now my 07 was built and was putting down around 500hp and I had a built transmission and to be honest I do not notice much of a difference in power between the 13 and the 07 other than the quickness from a stop as the tq management does hold the truck back just a little, almost like turbo lag. The Aisin trans is supposedly rated to handle up wards of 1000 lbs tq but who knows for sure. The Aisin trans is deffinetly a good step in the right direction for Ram as long as they do not screw that up somehow.
  20. My old 01 rd 688st with the E-7 460. God I miss that truck. I couldn't over load it, no matter what I put in it or towed behind it or both , it would just go. Yes thats me loading it.
  21. Oh wow what a small world. I actually live off applegrove close to middle branch so I'm pretty much in North Canton
