They say if you never get stuck……your not pushing the banks back far enough. Been there a couple of times myself.

  2. Thanks GEOFF, for the great info! I honestly don't know a lot about my old binder, so any info I can gather from others is great.

To think, I'm getting International info on a Mack forum. What a great place !

My 5th gear is toward the seat.

There is no line setting ticket in the truck anywhere. I was told if I go to a local Navistar dealer, they can get it for me. I'm not counting on it though.

I can imagine the parts guy looking at me like I got two heads, when I ask for it. I am going to try though.

Thanks for the discussion GEOFF. I actually tried to get something going on an International forum. But it didn't go anywhere.

I have discovered so much about my Macks on BMT. I thought I could do the same on an International forum.

Funny thing….I actually tried to post about the handles on an International forum. I figured It would help them. We can buy new Mack handles anywhere, I didn't know how hard it would be to buy an International handle. I thought it would help them. Anyway, I'm not very good on the computer…after about an hour, and almost throwing the computer out into a snow bank, the site wouldn't take my pics. So I figured screw it, only BMT'ers will know.

  3. GEOFF, I guess great minds think alike. lol

I have already gone at it with rubbing compound. It shines up pretty good. I want to keep as much of the original paint as I can. There isn't many trucks,or cars for that matter with 40 year old paint (that look good )in my part of the world.

I would love to see pics of the Sundance. Does it have the upholstered dash? I would love to see that also!

Here are some more pics for you.

I think this is the Sundance paint scheme ? I always liked these

    and

  4. Al, never feel bad about posting pics of your truck. I love seeing those pics. And I know how you feel about being proud of your truck. My 1985 and 86 are still putting bread on the table.

As luck would have it, your pic has answered a problem I've been scratching my head over.

I have been looking at a chrome bumper for my 86 RD688 . The dimensions are all right, but it has the 2 bolts on each side, and no holes for tow hooks, the same as yours! My 86 and 88 both have 3 bolts on each side, around the hole for the tow hook.

From your pic i figure some time after 1988 they changed the bumper mounts and put the tow hooks underneath.

    Thanks!!!!

  5. Just a thought….. going by other post ,are the fuel filters originally behind the front tire? If they are, is it possible that the heat of the new location is doing something to the fuel. I can imagine it gets very hot there beside the rad. Could it be possible that the fuel is heating so much, that when it cools at night the filter is a 1/4 empty.

Could be nonsense , just throwing ideas out.

    Hope you find your problem.

  6. I think you're right Keith. Maybe if the F models were galvanized,we would see more around today. I don't know though, the whole U.S auto/truck industry was using that crappy steel. I would imagine the galvanizing would have slowed it down some, but that stuff would rust as you were looking at it! Has anybody had any major rust through on a MACK cab since they started galvanizing the cabs? I haven't seen anything like the "crap steel" generation, where the roofs and other panels would literally fall off! Al

Al, when we painted my 85R in 2008, there was a few spots around the rockers that rusted through. Not bad though. The doors were not galvanized though. The doors had rust right through around the mirrors and the bottom.

The galvanizing definitely helped in my opinion.
