  1. remember you have a jerk pump each cylinder has its own plunger that rides on a cam shaft inside the pump and a rail that turns the plunger to increase or decrese the helix thru which fuel is metered, so if one plunger is out of adjustment it will cause this issue. and yes pump tecs can goof! i fought with a excavator that had a knock that we coulnt get rid of after a rebuild, it turned ot that the pump shop goofed and was over fueling one cylinder

this is the type of thing I was trying to explain I didnt do a very goo job :huh:

  2. This was my Uncle Harry's Vette. 292 GMC 6 ran AHRA Gas and Modified Sports in IHRA. Taken a Thunder Valley early 70's I think

Paul gotta love them extractors I have had 2 292 in chevy C 60 trucks they are pretty un heard of out here when I was rebuilding one of them for a truck I thought how much better could I get to go I woke early one morning on the phone to states for parts got heaps of machining done head got some big over size valves spent a fortune on it bought a four barrel offenhauser mainfold extractors 14 - 1 pistons had the crank and rods balanced and shot peened then I discovered the cool power Mack and as they say the rest is history

never got the motor finished gave it to my mate who has a 1950 chev sedan with a blue flame six in it so I have no idea how well it would have gone I guess I will find out one day maybe

So do you have any figures on on the 292 of Uncle Harry apart from cool !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. All very interesting the the federal Australian government announced today they are spending I cant remember how many billions to try and fix up the beef roads a lot as up 30% of the cost of raising and marketing beef in Australia is the road transport

I guess as the world markets are slowing down and China dosnt want coal or iron ore much anymore they government has finally realized they will have to look to farmers again to keep the country going funny how the world still needs food ????????

  4. so do you blokes loosen the oppiste side to the one you trying tighten or are just trying to pull it in tighter and not allowing somewhere else for the rim to go

dunno if that makes any sense I cant see how it could be such a drama loosen one side of the rim tighten the other it has to run true

no need for all this other high tech measuring and sliding rims on the spider maybe all this stuff only works in Australia ??????? :whistling::whistling::whistling:

  5. If it was me the biggest concern I would have in the back of my mind is if they cant even get it right now before the truck gets delivered what will happen if once you take delivery and you have a problem will the same BS follow, as Dr Phil says the best predictor of there future performance is there past performance

I would speak to Mack them selves on the telephone take notes of everything that is said I guess with todays modern phones you could record it all but Im not that smart and I hate to say this if it still dosnt feel right walk away from the deal and I would tell Mack the reason why to so that they have a understanding of there dealers performance

You might be surprised at what just may come of it all prepare your self before you make the phone call take the time to get it right in your head try to put it all on paper before you call them follow it up with a letter with all the dates and times of what has been said and by who most times if there has been a problem companys will bend over backwards to try and fix it and they will if your dealer is wrong pull your dealer into line

It should never come to this but life just works that way some times good luck

  6. The Man from Snowy River..... Until today, I knew of the movie! Boy was I missing out.

Paul, that's cool you shared that.

Don't know how it would be for the rest of you native folks but to me it was a real tongue twister.

I agree on the paint work.

Banjo Paterson I would think would have to be Australia's most famous poet

Paul but my favorite Australian poem would be this one "My Country" http://www.dorotheamackellar.com.au/archive/mycountry.htm

and particularly this verse it makes me feel all a bit strange in side

  7. Guy most the Mack road trains and heavy haulage units out here in Australia right up until the E9 were were Mack six cylinders 320 Coolpower as we called them

They were either Maxidyne or Thermodyne most believe were the thermodyne and even after the E9 400 hp was released the 320 Thermodyne was still a big seller and some were even put into super liners the gross weight of the road trains were 115 ton max

I always felt the fitment of a Thelma retarder would be a big advantage to a Mack motor the dynatard is pretty useless

  8. as farmer 52 says and if your going to leave it for a long time with out touching the clutch you maybe able to push a bit of wood to hold the clutch disengaged and then it can never stick again but I wouldnt buy a new clutch a would just put it back in it will clean it self up in no time at all and work the clutch every few weeks a few times

  9. Paul I am shocked I have never seen another thing like that in my life thats how should I put it

    "OUT THERE"

you could park that in a normal car park just hang the bonnet over the gutter might even block the foot path LOL

    Paul

  10. Yeah I can see I didnt explain my self very well

if all six exhausts are going into the one manifold then exhaust gases all get mixed together and turn into one gas the result of the six different gases mixed and the pyro temp would be the average of the six

so it is quit possible that one cylinder could be 200 degrees C and the other and another 300 and two at 400 and one at 1000 and I dont know the last one at say 550 degrees C

so if we add them all together we get 2850 divide that by six = 475 degrees which on the pyro gauge would look all ok but as you can see the temps are all over the place and one of them to stage it's gunna melt a piston

Dunno if I have helped to explain or made me look more of a fool :D:D
