Many older Australian trucks wandered all over road and you tack ed like yacht when driving, or least thats how I have heard it described Have been told the castor angle is wrong from new as it makes it much easier to steer at very slow speeds as trucks never had power steering Have been told that changing the wedge in between the springs and front axle helps a lot As for changing gears , lots of real good advice here Slow down the changes ,use the clutch and if you make a mess of it coast to stop and start again We all gotta learn some time Paul

I have the "Destination Doha" film ,when I get a chance and find it I will load it up There is quite few good films from this era from around the world on long distance truck driving and oddly I have never seen any US ones other than Hollywood type films

In a truck for heavier type work, like most old trucks out here it will be rough and tough and no show pony by any stretch of the imagination, but will rarely if ever work much at all Paul

Speedo normal reads off the trans output shaft so on a two speed axel only one of the speeds is right and in most cases its the high speed side as most trucks are in high gear in the back end most of the time Paul

If you find the pressure is to high I would guess it has popped the o rings and seals in the gear knob so it will need to be disassembled and the o rings put back in their grooves Paul

On the top of the transmission RHS on the ones I have worked on Some have two regulators some have two They should ne 55 -60 psi Paul

12V71 was at a blokes joint today and was looking at a 453 he is putting in little IH truck (guessi g a 2 or 3 ton mid 50's type) Anyway got to talking about a Jacobs brake for it and I suggested you may have a lead as to were to get a set so said Id ask So any idea's were to track a set down ? So how would a mechanic road test a manual transmission if they can't drive it ???

I think most people out side of the find it amazing that a lot of Americans cant drive a manual at all and it appears a lot of Americans fear the very thought of driving them Paul

I jave only ever seen bonnetted (conventional for yanks) ones out here Read the other day only 33 made it out here in total so the fact I see any at all is amazing Paul

How could a bent crank effect the timing??? The cam is driven off the front of the crank so even if the crank was bent it would have effect on the cam posistion to the crank , so it would have no effect on timing Paul
