  1. NEWS FLASH: LA FIRE CHIEF CROWLEY FIRED BY MAYOR BASS "FOR DEFICIENCIES IN THE RESPONSE." **Shortly after Chief Crowley lashed out at media for Bass's budget cuts which she claimed crippled her Department.** They are starting to eat their own!
  2. This is an especially irritating topic to me. Back in the day, as I was working as a Federal Firefighter, I was trying desperately to get hired onto the Philadelphia Fire Department. Even bought a house in the city to have the necessary residency. But I was a white/male/non-veteran and because there was still a minority hiring clause in place errrrrrrr excuse me, "The Preferred Demographic" I was screwed. I took that fire test three times. Studied my ass off every time. The last time I made #480 on the list but they were reaching into the 5000s, 6000s, 7000s (to get enough of the preferred demographic that had drivers licenses, no criminal history, and could pass a drug test) to get enough candidates to form recruit classes. Then my neighborhood started going down the shitter. When I bought the house in 1996 the street was all cops, firemen, school teachers. Then the crud started crossing Roosevelt Boulevard (Mike Durkin knows what I am talking about here, I lived near Castor & Tyson) and homeowners started moving to the far northeast and renting their rowhomes out to section 8. Anyway, I never made it. But to this day I remain a volunteer firefighter and I dont give a crap if you are white, black, blue, plaid, male, female, whatever. As long as you can pull my ass out if I am in trouble (and I can damn well do the same for you......) IDNGAF. Just do the job and do it well. Same applies to these "preferred demographics" today. Do the job, do it well and dont bitch and IDNGAF who or what you are. By the way I took the philly cop test one time (1998) and scored enough to get invited to orientation for application (first step in getting hired....) I chickened out because I didn't want to be a cop. Should have taken the job, could have done a couple years and lateral to the FD and took my pension and seniority with me,
  3. He went dark on Facebook a few years back too. I wonder if he passed?
  4. Has anyone heard from Other Dog at Ice Station Zebra, Virginia? Last I he and Miss Zina formerly from Florida were without power in their Igloo for the last seventeen days and were resorting to eating seals and caribou.
  5. Thats the biggest single reason why this site is the best! The fact that we all love to help one another! Whether you are in the USA, Ireland or Moscow, Russia (Vlad!!!) we all look out for one another!
  6. Why do Scots wear kilts? Sheep can hear zippers!
  7. I think he's trying to bamboozle someone, I know it's not me, I have seen him consume mass quantities of Iron City.....
  8. Where is Tommy and what have you done with him?
  9. Excellent. I "suggested" they give you some kinda refreshments.
  10. Did you get in OK? When I made some phone calls for you I told 'em that if anyone gave you any lip that I would personally come down there and straighten them out.
  11. Hmmmmmmmmmmm????
  12. Greetings from the East Coast and Mack Country. Assuming it is a gas engine, you probably have a 707. While parts are starting to become scarce, you can still find them here and there if you know where to look (with the exception of exhaust manifolds- they are really rare due to so many failures.) Have you contacted the Mack Trucks Historical Museum to get a copy of your build file and manuals? If not, they are free (but we do appreciate at donation.) All queries are answered in the order received and normally take 4-6 weeks to answer. Go to this link, fill it out including the SN/VIN and in the comments, ask for copies of anything in the file as well as chassis and engine manuals. https://www.macktruckshistoricalmuseum.org/contact-us/ Good Luck!!
  13. Are you certain it was an 8V71? I don't think there's room in there for a 6V71 let alone an 8 unless someone did some work to the sheet metal.
  14. Does the pump panel have a tach? If so how is that driven?
  15. Well duh....stupid pod things
  16. I have a LOT of leaves from four oak trees but all I have to do is blow them to the curb and the town comes and vacuums them up 3 or 4 times every fall.
  17. That there is an Anniversary-Series Seagrave, old tractor-drawn aerial. (tiller)
  18. Meanwhile the ports on the Delaware River in Bucks County Pa that are not ILA are in full swing running 24 hours.........
  19. Yes but he is actually over here on the East Side about 15 miles from me
  20. If you are still looking for someone to haul it for you, call UNDER DOG Gregg Hoffman (not Other Dog Tommy Blackwell) His number is 610-428-6075 If he does not answer, he is trucking but leave a message and he will call you back during business hours when his hands aren't full of steerin' wheel and shifter.
  21. I volunteer at the museum and vaguely remember something like this when we were moving some large posters around last summer (I think?) Use this link and contact the museum with your description and request. https://www.macktruckshistoricalmuseum.org/contact-us/
  22. NOTE: Not much air!!! No more than 5 or 10 psi at a time! It doesnt take much, Any more and you will blow out seals. Also- you mentioned speaking with Waterous. If you give them the Pump and Transfer Case serial numbers, they will send you manuals and parts break downs FREE OF CHARGE.
  23. INDOORS And if storage falls below freezing, you absolutely, positively MUST MUST MUST winterize the pump. Get yourself an extra discharge cap, set it up in a drill press and drill a 1/2" hole through it, then tap and thread it to accept a threaded nipple. Then a quarter turn valve with a male air chuck. Open ALL discharges, intakes, pump and tank drains. Drive the truck around a few miles to slosh around any standing water. Get back to the shop, close everything. Put your modified cap on a discharge, and open that discharge valve, Hook up an air hose to the chuck, and using the quarter turn valve, let in small amounts of air at a time as you open each and every discharge and intake drain valves. This will push out any remaining standing water. When you are all done, leave every valve and drain open the duration of the winter storage. That way if there is still any standing water in it, it will have a place to go if it freezes and expands.
  24. I'm the good looking one
