sounds like you are riding on the lifter yoke..  sorry bud..  well, if it gets you by for a while,  keep going..  the cam kits are available from PAI.. $2000.00 + the bushing set is $105.00 with  a thrust washer.  if you havent looked already, just type in the mack engine type and kit you want... the last 2,  I built I got parts from ATL Diesel..   but there are others that compete on price.  I like free shipping..  go with steel lifters.  $100.00 each...  jojo

These parts from ATL are PAI brand?

I figured as much .just wanted a second opinion.i have seen you mentioned Atl before and since then I've been checking out their website...only thing I need is the part number of the ac cam ..will be getting rid of the ami exhaust bump..is has been talked about in the "dead dog remediation"post but I haven't seen a concrete answer on the subject yet as to what part number...my buddy has a 2004 sfa ch with a AC 427hp rating..been thinking of using his vin to find cam that way too . please advice.

Why steel lifters over the ceramic?

so you dont have adjusting screws on the exhaust yoke/bridge?  im just curious..  i have seen pinless intakes with a solid yoke, but i dont recall a solid exhaust yoke right now..  but maybe, sorry I get rusty at times,.. is the tranny an Allison?  sorry for my Q's,,,, I too am trying to learn something here...   no matter how many of these trucks/engines I have worked on, I always learn something...  Maybe I should have already known the answer...  as far as checking the H-ring..  yes you can see if it has turned, however, the slightest rotation will kill a lifter and cam.  the real way to check rotation is a long process..  what you can do is use the long end of a coat hanger or a welding rod to check the depth compared to the others.  there is an 1/8 " allowance.  the H-rings are checked with the heads off and/or the cam out..   :) jojo

No sir..fixed valve bridges.trans is t310m...I'll take a look this weekend concerning the h ring.funny thing is that it only takes almost one full turn of the adjustment screw to get back into the .024 lash..truck runs good and little by little the ticking gets more pronounced...I always torque to spec ,and never has the jam but been loose.

  4. No engine brake...I haven't dropped the pan since I started this post ,and everything looked great.this motor does not have valve joke adjustment from what I saw ,just the valve lash...no Poppin sound just ticking..I will check the pushrod and shine a light down there to see if the h ring has come loose.Truck does not smoke at idle or under load..just smokes black when I get it on it and roll some coal..lol.

  5. The ticking sound has returned...over the past few months I've isolated it to the exhaust valve on the number 4 cylinder..it constantly needs to be adjusted every two weeks and ticking goes away.

Besides a bad roller on a lifter , what else causes a valve to loose it's valve lash adjustment?I'm currently running the truck and it seems fine just that one valve is acting up.im just ready to throw a cam from an Ac motor if this one is toast.

another one of the many unrecognized Heros of war;; the Codebreakers .so many lives saved through Their unique system.of 400 codebreakers  only a hand full still alive . a story worth reading or watch the TV version. the codebreakers had "escorts" at all times . escorts had orders to eliminate the codebreaker if  being captured by enemy.

Brings to mind the movie "windtalkers" staring Nicholas Cage

With this conversation about WW II, the thought crossed my mind, this generation today should watch the Victory at Sea episodes that are on You Tube.  They would learn a lot--in particular when they see  all the current news coverage of the "refugees" showing up at our southern border wearing their flip flops, designer jeans  and paying attention their cell phones.  Watching some of those old episodes they would see what REAL refugees were...and what they were fleeing from.

I would also recommend the series "secrets of war" narrated by Charles Heston.Great info.

The USS Midway, currently a museum ship in San Diego, is an aircraft carrier.  The Midway was commissioned just days after WWII ended, named after the Battle of Midway.  Battleships were always named after States.

Uss Texas just got in for some repairs.i unfortunately missed the last weekend to see it before it Left..it's one of the last of the dreadnoughts..what a magnificent piece of equipment

Hi new to the mack truck family 🙂 just bought my first dump truck I'm getting ready to pull the transmission it has a broken shift rail so going to have to send out the trans to get fixed.

Iv never pulled a trans on a mack truck or big rig befor but pull lots out of small truck.

The mack is a 91 mack rd600 dump truck. Just looking for some advise on pulling the trans do I need to support the back of the motor?

Is it easier to leave the clutch on the motor or on the trans?

The clutch is new with only 50,000 on her would really appreciate any tech tips!! 😀

Congrats on your new to you bulldog..just wanted to add that if you have a Mack transmission, they are a little bit more difficult to remove since the triple counter shaft design makes them very top heavy, make sure you have a good transmission jack that allows you to strap it down real good. Last thing you want is to have that transmission sitting on your lap. On the other hand if you have an eaton transmission , they are much simpler to remove since they're flat and can be positioned better on the jack.

Also if transmission is to be removed, might be a good time to replace the puck style motor mounts.

Man, I wish I was born into this 20 year's  earlier.... I pull my hair out a lot..  I currently have a Mack E-tech in my shop for one of our "Brothers" here at BMT..  I'm greatful for it, because I know I can Give him a good running E-tech.. I am not 'cocky'  by any mean's,,, but more guy's like me need to come out and get these machines up and running, for those that need them.  There is so much knowledge here, that it gives me a bunch of relief.  I take these Mack's to heart...  I know I am off topic, I'm just talking to you and who ever else understands.... jojo

Unfortunately my generation (I just turned 30)  has become too computerized, everything is solved by googling it. Can you guys believe that they are owners operators that work with me that don't know what setting the lash on the valves is? I asked him if he owned some feeler gauges and he looked at me like if I was asking him how to perform heart surgery. LOL.

  13. This is a tough job.. specially for the first time.As far as tools go, you will need a short anvil stubby one inch drive impact to torque the ubolts..it could be done manually with big ratchet and a 5 foot schedule 40 pipe for leverage...you have 38k pound suspension, the greasable one starts at 44k pounds and up...it can be converted but you would have to change trunnion and heavier duty springs...dont quote me on that last one.. someone will chime in a confirm...

  14. This could be as easy as a bad seal ,or like mechohaulic said bearings could have some play and be off on the preload...if it's just the seal check the yoke for wear around the area where the seal rides..there are speedy sleeves if there is a groove on the yoke .
