  1. So Matt, are a lot of towns in Conn going with 350-550's? The four newest trucks in my town are 350/450 dumps-including 2 crew cabs (so they can lug the summer hires around cutting grass.) With about 40" of snow in the last two weeks I see the weak point in these trucks- great for going down the middle of the road, but the roads get narrower and narrower and narrower. IMO, takes a big blade and weight to get the sides pushed back. Also I'm out with my Deere cleaning up end of drive as well as around mailboxes and one of the super duties goes by. He throws a little windrow but the surface of the road shows no change to speak of. Ten minutes later one of the International 4900's goes by with a big blade. You can see the difference in the packed snow cover. No doubt the "One tons" are like half the price and do a good job cleaning up intersections etc but the repeat storms we have had IMO show their limitations.
  2. Just looking at these trucks, I have to believe with all of their technology, they are NOT inexpensive. And they appear to have a lot of complexity-which means their service network has to be pretty well trained. How about it KSC? We think we are so advanced but it seems to me when you look at these Euro trucks we should stop complaining about the complexity of what we have here. Then again maybe it is just me who still misses the old days of KISS (Keep it simple stupid!)
  3. Hah! Brings back memories of my youth. we had a T6K Backhoe. The boom and the dipper were like heavy pipe sections. I was never allowed to run the hoe ("cause then kid you'll know what I know") but I was the driver job site to job site.. Always amazed me that big cab with no motor in it! At which series I wonder did the "upper" get its own power?

  5. Good points- I guess its just cyclical? Like say Komatsu "studying" Cat designs in early 60's to them being a world player now. And no doubt, these "copy cat" situations can ultimately lead to a reverse role-like I'm sure you will find Cat paying attention to latest Komatsu design as the Japanese industry has matured.
  6. Can't argue with that. Your stealing technology comment takes me back to an old guy I knew who years ago told me about being at ConExpo and seeing all these Japanese guys swarming over the equipment with their cameras. What's that they say about ..."imitation is the best form of flattery?"
  7. KSC I guess I finally get the picture in that the 10.3 and larger engines used in Cargo are in fact FPT products. But are in fact the 7.3 and 9.0 Ecotorqs Ford designed/built-no strings to Fiat or anyone else?

  12. RE your comments on the Paccar cabovers, so how would the Cargo variants stack up against those?
  13. No the article was based on a Ford press release. Now what you are suggesting (use 150 cab for 250-350) makes a ton of sense to me-like the old days) but for some reason even though the interior dimensions between 150 and Super duty are very close, they seem to think they need a unique cab. And if they did use the 150 cab,you asre correct-they still could crank out steel SD cabs for 450-550 assembly at KTP while they ship same cab components to OHAP for 650-750

Just read a USA Today online piece that Ford's Kentucky Truck Plant, home of the Super Duty and built for the Louisville production in1969, would convert 250, 350 production to new aluminum cab in next year or so. NO mention was made of 450, 550. Does this mean they would still build a steel cab 450, 550 at KTP or do you read between the lines and assume 450, 550 moves to the Avon Lake plant (OHAP) where the new 650, 750 will be built starting this year? And does this make the case for an eventual all new medium cab to accomodate 450-750 and the return into "Baby 8's"? How about it KSC, you always have global insights into this stuff?
  15. JH-my "green" version-also 7'- junk yard Fisher. When guys buy a new pick up usually their old ones it seems get "cycled down". I think this is third one I've had. Usually swap the old one for an upgrade for a few bucks! I think though an 8 footer might be next. What do you have for weight? I have loaded 17R-24's plus the concrete block I made is around 550.
  16. Interesting- I wonder how that foots with most OEM manuals? Isn't "15-40 HD for diesel" the API oil of choice?

  21. That is a 90,000 lb machine- I gather this thing has more rubber on the inside? tires look awfully small for that load. Don't imagine that trailer itself is light!
  22. Nice A-Car. takes me back to my youth-watching the town Brockways or the Conn. Ford-950's go by. No 4 WD pick ups out plowing roads in those days!
